Awesome footage Thomas. Looked like a great trip. Pity about the 2nd stag, but you know where he winters over. Always next year if you don't catch up with him beforehand. Thanks for sharing 👍👍
Thanks for the comment, it was a shame to miss but as hunters we know it happens and have to live with it, a clean miss is much easier to deal with than wounded animal not found. Hope you are well. Cheers
Absolute thumper of a stag your mate dropped, must be chuffed with that. Hard luck on yours, hope you catch up with him next year, would love to see you nail it!
Choice video. Thanks for being upfront and showing your missed shot. A lot of people wouldn't have. On the plus side it should have made him smarten up a bit. Fingers crossed he's still out there
Great vid mate, beaut footage. I was waiting for the shot on the stag then bang ! it missed by a mile, was expecting a 2nd shot but he was outa there, i felt your pain, ive bungled 2 great stag shots, it hurts for days but ya want to get back out there and try again. Cheerz for the vid. 🤟
Thanks mate, was an epic trip with some great mates. It was a shame I missed, but glad it was a clean miss all the same. Nobody to blame but myself, so I didn't dwell on it too much.
Cheers mate, certainly was an epic trip for the lads. Hopefully I'll catch up with him next year, make a great part 2 wouldn't it. Hope you're going well mate.
Was badly needed mate, you know as well as I do how much hunting does for your mental state of mind. Epic trip and some great animals taken by the lads.
Yeah mate, it was shooting 3" high and 2" to the right. Not ideal, rookie error on my part, I always shoot my rifle before a big trip, this time I didn't! Lesson learned!
Bugger tomo, it happens mate, especially to anyone spending as much time on the hill as you. Do your range finders accomodate for angle - at 325 on that angle I’d have thought it was about a 200m shot?
Cheers Jamie, yes you're right there, if you've never missed an animal you haven't hunted enough. Yeah I work off TBR for my range finder, so easy with my CDS dial on my Leupy scope. The range was good, dial was good, but rifle not sighted in for me was the failure! Lesson learned! Hope you're all good over the ditch mate, you'll be itching for some time in the hills I'm sure?
😬 oops we’ve all had the captain shit shot trophy at one time or another! Nice vid fellas decent trip. Out of curiosity what length did the Chams go? I love those dark winter coats 👌 cheers!
Hey bud, yeah missing the odd deer is actually good for you, keeps you on your toes. The Chams weren’t massive, both around that 9” mark from memory. Cheers, Tom
@@SouthernAlpsHunter exactly Tom too true! Nice work I’d love to get back to NZ again it’s a dream hunting those mountains to us Victorians bar the footwork 😂
Yeah it did, we completely missed the rut this year, with the entire country being in lockdown, they banned all hunting on public land while we were in level 3 and 4. We also had a delayed start to our game bird season as well.
Southern Alps Hunter I guess wouldn’t that make hitting a bigger deer easier? Like if I’m used to shooting a deer that’s a foot smaller...... maybe you could take me to where ya missed that one??
Loved the video mate! Just moved to NZ from Aus absolutely love watching these vids gets me very excited to go out myself
Cheers for the comment mate, glad you enjoyed the vid, was a cracker trip that one. After this past week I’m bloody keen to get into the hills too.
Awesome video and great footage, thumbs up Thomas, and best of luck for the next hunt.
Cheers Tony, was a great trip made better by having some solid mates along.

Great vid.great country.pity about that last stag but at least he will live for another day.
Thanks mate, yeah it was a shame but that's hunting sometimes. Let's hope he's bigger next time round.
I have to ask. Has the COVID-19 situation affected hunting periods significantly? If yes, in what ways?
Yeah it did, we completely missed the rut this year, with the entire country being in lockdown, they banned all hunting on public land while we were in level 3 and 4. We also had a delayed start to our game bird season as well.
Boom, been waiting for this!
Yeah great vid Thomas! Hopefully he’s still there next year but bigger. M
