Anyone else racing carpet this season?!
Great information, Ryan! Carpet is starting this year in Shreveport LA and I am anxious to try it out. I run tekno and only been in off road for 1 year- love it and I really enjoy your videos. Look forward to seeing you run this year, and I might even try to catch you live- if possible!
Carpet has been an absolute game changer for me. I'm a motocross guy and die-hard dirt fan, which is what got me into r/c racing. Unfortunately I just got so flustered with the tire game and constant setup changes with dirt. I felt like 90% of my time was spent chasing setup and only 10% having fun and focusing on my driving. With carpet, once I get a solid setup then I only have to make minor changes from track to track, even being in the Expert class A-main. It's fast, clean, and consistent racing. Of course you can't afford to make hardly any mistakes but I really feel like it's more about the driver and less about the setup compared to other surfaces. At the end of the day, there is minimal clean-up. Not to mention it's very cost effective for track owners and makes track changes much easier. Never thought I'd say it, but I love carpet.
I've only raced carpet and probably will for a long while, my local dirt track just went to carpet ☹
Nico is sitting second in buggy and SC for the winter points series that ends this weekend on carpet.
You should come out to Topeka Kansas! We have a big race presented by AE coming up March 27-29. Ultraline Hobbies
Rocking the donut media hat,nice
*[Bumper 2 Bumper theme intensifies]*
@@HokuraChan0106 Get up to speed on...TLR
YES thats where he’s from. I knew his face looked familiar! I came here from AJ CAT btw
Really appreciate how much information you put out to try to help us get our cars dialed in. I have been to tracks where people try to keep everything a secret to get an advantage or something but the tracks that I have the most fun at are the ones where everyone is trying to help everyone else out. At my local track people will literally help others in the pit and even share parts and it really makes racing a fun and friendly experience. I mean, we aren’t all trying to be pro, we just want to have a fun weekend at the track. Thanks Ryan!
Being able to run an entire main on carpet without any marshaling is such a good feeling and an amazing feat. Awesome race man!!
check out the ts100 or ts80 soldering iron! I love my ts80 as a primary iron, for everything from my rc drift chassis' to building fpv drones.
I didn’t even know this was a thing! Looks super fun!
"Nooo, nooo, no orange pledge mister Ryan" LOL
Im just getting back into the hobby after 20 years.. nice video
Power tools?!? Headphones for music?!? Man I remember cleaning the mud and grass off my mid custom, hiding under an umbrella in the pissing rain whilst my SCR's charged underneath my car bag, indoor racing must be like a 5* hotel!
Was that a Steve Kinser shirt? I have watched Sprintcars all over California and a few other states since the 80’s.
Yes sir!
I feel late to the party but this sport looks hella fun.🤙
check out kevin talbot on you tube. he shows the other side of RC ownership. Bashing (or simply getting out with your rc and having some fun)
Brilliant, thanks Ryan
Cool donut hat. Love it!
hey man i love the amount of info you give keep it up and thank you!
I wanted to say hey to you while I was there but didn’t want to be awkward. You’re the reason I got into the hobby!
Dude! Don't ever be shy! We're all family at the track
Ryan Harris awesome! I’ll be at the next one!
This man is more prepared than full sized race car teams lmao This is definitely o hobby I’m gonna get into
O is so far away from A on the keyboard...
We need more RC enthusiasts like yourself. You do a great job! I love racing clay and my local will most likely go carpet soon. What is your thoughts? I am of the old school, raced in the 80s and 90s, where controlled sliding was the way to run races. Now the clay we run has so much grip it took a long time for me to adjust. I fear it might be the same with carpet.
Havent raced for a couple of years now, but everytime I watch your videos, i always get the urge to start again. Keep up the great vids man!
In all the years of racing I've never heard about the best way of landing. 👍. Just goes to show you're never to old to learn.. Overall some good advice to try 😬 👏
the best way is right side up ;)
I run mo7 mini and tc 7.2 vta on carpet so much fun just started racing 3 months ago at a local club !! Absolutely love the hobby and the people in it !!
Tamiya spec mini racing is quality 👍🏻
Those of us that know already knew that signature on your shirt.
Love the videos man. Where do you get the stickers on your car of your name? And also any help with getting one of those awesome tool/storage boxes with all the little round containers? That's the cooliest boxes I've see. All I race is indoor carpet. I started with a slash, went to a sc5m and now I race 4wd 13.5 buggy with a b6.4d.
Your content is legendary. Good stuff man.
Steve kinser is a solid racer. I'm more of a Brian Monteith fan (#21 The Edge). PA Posse always over Outlaws! Haha nice video Ryan.
throw back Oakleys and the Miami Vice throwback music (80s)
..pretty sweet... felt like crockett and tubbs rolling in the spyder in downtown miami on the way to a deal....yea im old and you young guys will never understand...lol
Glad you felt the vibe 😎
@@RyanHarrisRC now im watching old reruns of miami vice... CALDARONE is alive !!!!!
Hey Ryan, I too live in Florida and love your videos, I was wondering if you had a communitcation means for me to connect with you? I have a multitude of things I'd love to discuss with you! From tracks, to parts, to setups, to classes, etc :)
Thank you for your time!
So just now getting into the hobby. Had an interest is possibly doing some track racing. And then I watched your video and realized how much preparation it really takes to run these events. Great video. Taught me quite a bit. I like being able to hear different thought processes of running different setups
Honestly, this is pretty excessive for a weekend trip, if you're breaking your car that much, should probably slow down a bit or buy higher quality parts 😅
Ryan you have the best RC vids on UA-cam love your channel keep making vids and i will keep watching
Where did you get the music for this video it's awesome
Ha!! You raced with a buddy of mine, Dave Ramos! He transplanted down to Fla. from NY a few years ago.
Can you go over what extra parts you needed to add or replace on the 22 2wd Elite kit for carpet?
Great video. Nice to see you embracing carpet racing
Rock some Legendary Apparel!! I live in Central Pa where Sprint Car racing is LIFE!! Keep up the good work!!
Not sure where your at in Central Pa but the hobby shop in Altoona has a small carpet track. Mainly 2wd buggies and SC. It’s not a big track but is lots of fun. Practice (fun run) Thursdays and racing on Saturday afternoons. He needs more racers to show up though.
"THE KING" love the shirt, clean operation you run thanks for the video but carpet is for the house and dirt is for racing lol
“Rc car carpet race video” *dude talking in front a camera 90% of the video*
I know right! He should probably do 360 videos with less talking. That would get my 10/10 vote 👍
Lol
Are you wearing a Steve Kinser autographed shirt? If you are, you just went up like 20 cool points in my book, hah!
Maaaaaybe 😎
I was so pumped to see this video! I bought a brushless E-Maxx about 5 years ago and wanted to race at the the time, but with no track a backyard bashed served me well. I just found out about a indoor carpet track about a half hour away from me in St. Cloud Minnesota. I bought a TLR 22 5.0 AC about 2 weeks ago and am working on the build. I can't wait to go racing!
How did you get on with racing? I'm in the same boat; indoor carpet track just opened up, and bought a 22 5.0 myself.
I know Dave Ramos personally
sorry but that soldering looked nasty
I have a Traxxas bandit and I whant to get into carpet racing what would you recommend for tires and wheels
I truly enjoy your videos. Great job with all you content. It’s well done second to no one.
Hey Ryan where are your C and D pills setting for carpet?
Awesome!!!
I raced heavily, announced, and worked at a race track from 2013-16. Got out for a bit and have recently considered getting back into it. So ive been randomly searching for videos and such and stumbled on yours. Man ur videos are awesome, more racers should do these. Keep it up man, well worth a sub
Keep em coming, love the insight and honest progress you’re making with TLR! Have a successful 20 🙏
Hey! The donut media hat!
*now do a B2B on your (RC) car now*
I ran my first race the other day and on turf I only had one other day to practice but I did okay.
Please help!!! Just burnt out sc1258 savox servo in a race. Any recommendations for a super good fast servo for 4x4 sct for carpet and turf???
Rad shirt! He used to come and race down here in Australia when I was a kid, good times!
Nice driving on the carpet too Ryan, when are you getting a 4WD?
Thanks man! 4wd coming very soon!
Hey Ryan you should try racing your 4wd on carpet and let us know your thoughts. Iv been racing b6.1 on carpet and have been thinking about trying 4wd as well.
I've never liked motorsport competition, because the chequebook Charlie's always win.
Until they meet that one guy who is a wizard with cable ties 😂
Just getting into carpet this year. Question for wheels, I see DE has two different front buggy wheels for my B6. Slim and regular. What is the benefit from either?
I have got great carpet prep if ur interested I call it gorilla 🦍bite works great for carpet, asphalt, concrete, grass, dirt, you name it you stickin down the rubber works great for rubber
Question Ryan. I have been thinking of this and keep forgetting to ask where did you get your small round containers you are using in the Plano box ? This is going to be a must. Thanks!
I can answer this for ya. Check out your local arts and craft store, hobbie lobby, Michael's, etc. They use them to store beads for like necklace and bracelets.
I raced against Billy Bruce back when the Whip (Whippoorwill) was still running. I had the RC10T back then. Had a Losi 2wd buggy for awhile. I tried my luck with a LCG 4x4 Slash at Beachline a couple of times. Never had the speed but it was a lot of fun.
Ok FL is clearly healthier than other regions right now and this was a regional championship race but... your bit on the dining rm table got to me. RC has never been a cheap hobby but tabulate up how much $ is on that table for 1 class and a stock class no less - its horrid. Reminders from the past (carpet made tires easy but if dirt the tire coffin was always bigger than the race box. I see battery voodoo is present with lipos now too). Rotors and ceramic bearings in a stock class motor vs $28 for ‘MEOW’ 1991 rules!!!! Sounds like mod could be cheaper.
As car counts thus tracks dry up in region 2 i do not see it changing any time soon. Needs a huge shift in thinking to get people back and having fun in a club setting in classes that don't see folks run away upon hearing the bill and/or having to race against people who have names all over their shirt.
Good luck and best wishes. No malice intended but that table brought back those last sour notes of this hobby for me.
-U10 (retired racer 1988-2012, now having fun for 50$ watching my 4yo running a sc28 around the house)
Excellent race. So few manufactureres now in the game kinda makes things a bit boring. I'd like to get back into racing, but the last cars I drove were the Kyosho optima Mid and CAT XLS in the late 80s early 90s
5:27 please let this be a thing in 2020! 😁😎
Did you run sway bars up front? What exactly does the the glue accomplish on the front wheels? I don’t get exactly what it’s doing? Creating a slick surface to roll into corners? Always love your videos and getting back into racing after a long break. Believe it or not I use to race back in the day I have the same tool box as you in the back ground of all your vids🤘🏻 that’s how old school I am 😎
Racing in general must be fun, just wish there were more outdoor "dirt" tracks and nitro as well.
Why does the TLR look like a KYOSHO? Also what’s the the name brand of your parts and tool storage container? Well organized!
Im getting into asfalt/carpet racing right now. Build a tamiya tt-02sr with a 13.5t 5400kv and 2s 50c 5000mah. Should run decent
How much of the stuff do you use in a weekend and how much is just in case?
$1500 worth of equipment to run na I will pass . Way to many other fun classes around .. This type of racing kills it for the average racer. 10 pro racers with lots of cash while 50 other guys wanting to race weekly..
Live in Dallas Fort Worth area. Got to build an X-ray XB4 in 13’ for an indoor off-road carpet track that was open for a short period. Was soooo fun. Sad day when they closed. Been itching for it ever since.
Great vid! Huuuge open wheel fan! Cool to see you rocking the "KING."
Ryan I’m sure you cover this in another video, but I’m new to all this rc racing stuff. My question is, I see there’s a threaded collar, I’d call it that, on the shock that compresses or loosens the spring. Now what exactly does that do and how do you know where to set it ?
Literally a week after I chose the Losi 22 5.0 you decided to switch lol.
One of the cons when I went with the losi was that I watched your channel and you run Associated.
I guess I made the right choice after all.
Why do you glue up haft the tire? From folding over? Stiffness? Thank you great video!! 🤙🏾
More glue = more sidewall stiffness. The sidewalk acts as a spring for both horizontal and vertical forces when tire gets loaded with weight. Also as the sidewalk deforms it changes your tire contact patch with surface
Amazing video as always Ryan!
enjoyed your video i live in Titusville , looking to get into racing i fly RC planes now over 30 years . But this is all new to me any help yo can give would be most welcome Thanks for your time Ricky
Surprised that’s the first time you raced on carpet? Is carpet not popular in the US? In the UK the majority of the indoor buggy clubs run on carpet
Awesome video. Do you plan to run more carpet? Im currently running my 22x4 as a carpet car. Awesome Buggy.
Awesome stuff Ryan! Interesting you got the 22 5.0 Elite which they designed as a dirt car and used it on carpet. I'm not sure how I feel about the pledge. I like PTFE spray to keep the dirt off, but you shouln't use that on the lexan. aerosol furniture wax likely works on it all.
Hey Ryan you should come up to the RC Fun Park in Granger Indiana sometime it's a clay off road track everyone uses slicks or primes for tires
What is your discharge bank, old school was a bank of car blinker globes. What do you use and what does it do? Is it better for batteries using it. Is it better than a charger discharging cycle?
Thanks
Dude in your Last video YOUR FIRST CARPET RACE. You didn’t run a rear sway Bar ?......
Been in to hobby for many years I have a few drifters and off road tamiyas but I want to finally get into racing and my local track seems to support both 2wd and 4wd so don’t know which is better for a beginner ? but I am absolutely torn between AE or tlr and if I do go tlr is it worth it to go for and elite over an sr?
What are those bags you got the rc remote and charger stuff in called? 🧐 are they jcConcept or... I can’t see the label very well.
ryan awesome videos, i love your content. and the quality of said content. i just noticed you have a small scar next to your eye, on the outside edge. that looks like it was a very painful injury.
Stupid question, how do they control the cars? I mean they go so fast, I can't believe a human can control the vehicle at those speeds.
Hey Ryan in this video you have the box with tools and screws and other good items , what’s the brand os the storage unit looking for something like in Australia thank you
When i got to my first race i was WAY underprepared i only had my car and a few tools on the practce laps a crashed my diff cover wend bye bye and i had to go home sad ;-;
Did you buy a 5.0 AC for this race or just set up your dirt car for carpet? I have a 5.0sr I may try on turf this year. Any pointers?
My son wants to get into racing so i got him 22 4.0 chassis only came with arms towers and shocks for dirt cheap only reason why i did tht so he can learn how to build it....and suggests on what route to go on this build most tracks are dirt around me
Hey Ryan do you have a similar video but with your associated buggy ?
On one hand, I feel the low traction of real dirt (not clay) really really really adds to the skill, on the other hand..... I hate cleaning my buggy off at the end of the day heh.
Thats a lot of stuff to take, I never knew how much u really need to take with u
Oh thats nothin. Lol
One thing with racing is that you NEVER have time to run back to the house an grab the parts you need.. So if you literally bring EVERYTHING you never have to worry about a DQ because of a broke vehicle.. And I know that from experience from when I raced years ago
This was pretty excessive. Enough parts to basically build another car + a few extras like wheels, shocks, arms etc and your tool kit will usually be more than enough.
Man, I wish I had that kind of talent. Truly amazing! For now, I'm just happy racing around the back yard and not breaking anything ;)
Well you got some talent im racing in the backyard breaking everything
why do I always hear sean kirsten's voice whenever I hear an announcer lmaoo
Hi , very Nice 1/10 and very Good stuf
U should do more Racing carpet video’s
Ryan, come back. You're the best RC racing youtuber!
you want to run foam tyres on carpet. bit of traction aid and youll never spin a tyre.
Ryan where did you get the little plastic containers inside of your Plano box
Nicely driven. Can't believe that's 17.5
Can you post links to your organizing case and the round screw holders?
Ur hat should say wingdings....just saying...im a lil hungry.😌
The nice thing about racing carpet (apparently) is not nearly breaking your thumb while turn-marshaling (and slipping/falling) on wet clay :) Took me about six months to get over that at SDRC in San Diego ;)
I luv u
❤️❤️❤️❤️
