- White Summer, Midnight Moonlight and Kashmir on acoustic guitar, plus short interview. This was part of a 60minute Arena documentary about Heavy Metal, broadcast on BBCTV in 1989.
I don't own this, I just believe this video should be freely available for everybody to view.

no matter what, there is always a Led Zeppelin song being played somewhere on this planet. That will not change until the world stops turning. Trust in that
for every immigrant song or communication breakdown theres a rain song or battle of evermore they were so diverse and unique
@Cameron Hudock no we don't so fuck off. And no it didn't take like 10 minutes eithsr
Amazing.
He should release a record of all his acoustic performances..
He should do an all acoustic album...
YES AWESOME IDEA
YES!
@cgab12…he did a 1/2 acoustic album. Side two of Led Zepplin 3.
how can u not love jimmy page the best guitarist in my humble opinion, hes so mesmerising i never get enough of watchin r listenin 2 him play, never stop rockin' jimmy page
His guitar work just resonates with me, more than any other guitarist ever.
His playing (when isolated) almost makes me want to cry.
I really never got those people who said Page is sloppy. He wasn't sloppy. He just had a style that all guitarists envy, and a lot of people got jealous of him. Not me though! I have remained a loyal fan from day one, and I still say that he is the very best guitarist the rock genre has ever seen.
Spot on!
That's the LZ maxim : Tight but Loose !!
Agree, agree.
He’s never sloppy on the acoustic. Maybe sometimes on the electric because the Les Paul was slung so low, but just his style..
@@cgab12 A lot of it was image and putting a hippie spirit into it. Page is brilliant.
He is the chords, the chords are him... they are one. Nothing was more mesmerizing than watching Page perform on stage.
PreserveBigCats they say he's sloppy live! But I think Page does it on purpose...he still hides his perfect playing!like this little playing he did just perfect!
It seems calling with his guitar. It's amazing.
Ok can someone say the cord he’s playing at the 12th an 14 th fret at the 1 min 50 sec mark
@@mariececile3973 there’s a hidden phone built into the guitar on the side of the body it’s been painted over AND making phone calls on stage to 🇬🇧 Documentary phone rock double stack fat
Natures drug...Jimmy Page on guitar. Nothing sooths a painful soul better. Other than listening to that sexy voice of course. Just makes me melt 3
Even as a man, completely agree.
@@actuallymario7676
Nice of you to admit that 👍 😉
I have had a huge crush on Ann Wilson of Heart for years! Lol ...I also love Jimmy too.
Page is still considered one of the earliest and greatest innovators of guitar tunings and one of the reasons Zeppelin had such a unique sound
No doubt that Page was a good all round session guitarist but If you take a listen to the works of Bert Jansch or Davy Graham recording a few years before, you'll see that Page was not an innovator, rather a copier of styles and tunings and ultimately even went on to steal one of Jansch's pieces, Blackwaterside, almost note for note.
Freeborn John Almost note for note? They're in different tunings.
+John McClaine You could sing "Happy Birthday" in 2 different keys and it would still be the same song. I love Page and consider him very much an innovator, but he did steal that piece from Jansch.
+Freeborn John Down by Blackwaterside (also known as Blackwaterside, Blackwater Side and Black Waterside), are traditional folk songs, provenance and author unknown, although they are likely to have originated near the River Blackwater, Ulster.
From Wikipedia
+RyanThompsonGuitarist Jansch's particular arrangement of this very old song was distinctive and original. Page's was derivative of Jansch's.
Jimmy is always in the music. When he plays he is the music. He fascinates me always. I could watch him forever. He’s so humble about it too. Because he just loves it.
Wow. It's like watching him write Kashmir from White Summer... amazing.
hybrid picking .. jimmys skills are second to none
I remember watching this when it was on originally.. Bloody hell !! Great to see it again after 20 odd years
Beautiful !!! I love you jimmy !!
Great vid... This is why he is and always will be my favorite guitarist
There was a real WOW moment when he said.."and then" and segues into "Kashmir:. Blimey. Thanks also for the end plate with the notes, which made me laugh aloud. Well done you.
God I just love this man!!!
White summer is awesome along with Walters walk ..Jimmy is my idol.Zeppelin FOREVER
Jimmy Page is so versitale, he an play anything. I wish he would put out an all acoustic album now!!!!! I also love Clapton, Beck, Duane Allman, Hendrix etc... but Jimmy is special because of his ability to play and compose all types of music. My rant for the day. (lol)
Have a happy Zep day.
Those Midnight Moonlight chords are absolutely heavenly.
Wrong song dude
@@blairsmith1624 urm no, he’s right actually
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS CLIP FOR FOREVER. Thank you SO much! I saw the Kashmir part of it during a VH1 special on Zeppelin, and this clip has been imprinted in my memory ever since!
God he’s fascinating. Those chords are so beautiful.
Love him, eternally. 1:32 pure Magick.....you either get Page or you don't. So sorry for those who don't.
You're so beautiful Jimmy Page I wish you were mine, you could play just for me every night xxx
Omg he’s so good what a KING 👑
jimmy page is a great guitarrist for me one of the best
of all times
"ROCK GOD" and all his GREATNESS!!!!!
What a great harmony!
I just adore Jimmy's body language. It is so sensual, yet very cute and the same time.
It truely is.
Chex
Jimmy Page is a great inspiration and say what you will, but no one can take away his legendary status. Hail Jimmy Page!! Hats off to you!
i think that Jimmy's acoustic stuff was just as good and special as his electric stuff.
i really enjoy listening him ripping it up on an acoustic. he has such a mystique sound to it.
I think some people have been confused by the UA-cam video title. This interview with Page was a small part of an Arena special documentary on the heavy metal genre as it was in 1989. They traced the history of heavy metal from its origins/birth in the 1960s to the present, which was 1989. The term 'heavy metal' or 'metal' has evolved since then too. They interviewed lots of people in this documentary not just Page.
Jimmy xxxx
Thanks for the post Evilweed! Just added it to my favorites
I could listen to him forever and “Midnight Moonlight”. ❤️
That’s not “midnight Moonlight”. White summer/Black mountain side
I was lucky enough to see this guitar in the flesh yesterday. Met the guy who was giving it a service (Vince), nice chap. Didn't dare even breathe on it though.
Thanks for your sharing !! appreciate that
everytime I'm sad i think of your comment and that makes me happy.
White summer was a staple song in the early years of Led Zep listen to live at the BBC in 69'. Saw Jimmy in 88' in Manchester Apollo on the Outrider tour great to see him but 15 years too late as the drugs cut mainly alcohol had taken its toll on his playing which was such a shame. Still a legend in his own lifetime, saw Plant same year on Now and Zen tour in my hometown of Liverpool and he was brilliant just wish I'd seen them together 15 years earlier!! We can all dream.
baddest man on the planet
page can get away with what george lucas can't. he can slightly edit his work and it's good every time.
what can i say?....this guy is amazing!
I could watch Jimmy Page play on forever.
Fantastique Jimmy j adore !!!
What the heck was that in beginning??!!?? Awesome what ever it was
He played a bit of Midnight Moonlight just before Kashmir. It was a tune jimmy had worked on for years when in LZ but never had the chance to release it. It was recorded and realeased with The Firm
Thank you for this good moment of music.
grande Jimy page mestre guitar
he is on somehing and it s called skill
I would say that it's his spirit and attitude more than skill , certainly if you are referring to technique .
white summer------ great composition !!!
Jimmy Page is the One!! Fucking greatest guitar player ever!! What a legend!
Jimmy Page just mentioned Motorhead. Witch means he's sat down and listen to Motorhead... Fuckin' awesome.
hey thanks for posting this
J-I-M-M-Y ! ! !
thanks for sharing. Rob/Boston
i really love jimmy page style, i just love it
He smokes Marlboro :)
Very interesting vid, BTW... Always loved Jimmy's playing!!
@R0ckers2R0ckers
This IS the whole of it. Just 2 short clips, which I edited together, minus the 1969 Led Zeppelin coverage which WMG objected to (eventhough the whole thing is on UA-cam somewhere). If you want to see the whole Arena documentary, search for 'badwolf1973'. All 6 part's are on his channel. Thanks
a combination of great and music
Cheers for this, i remember watching it many times having recorded it on VHS myself, nice one mate
Ohhh Jimmy 🎸🎸🎸♥️♥️♥️
Bad ass clip right there. Cheers for posting, love the disclaimer outro.
great video man i love the upclose of the master mind jimmy page plying the guitar
What a treat. Love watching Jimmy play! Kinda sad knowing he was smacked out but still...I also feel bad he and Percy didn't like coming to America very much. We are a bunch of clods, I suppose. I saw the Firm once in Detroit, and it was good. Very good. But most anything Jimmy does is awesome. Thanks for posting this!
It's part of an Arena documentary, broadcast on BBCTV in 1989. It has never been repeated or released on video/DVD. You may be able to watch the whole thing on-line, if you googlesearch 'Arena - Heavy Metal'
@DrewWlliams As far as I'm aware it was invented by Davy Graham - He observed Sitar players on his travels and was the first man to think of trying to imitate a Sitar tuning on an ordinary steel-string guitar.
@diaghilev That song is called "Midnight Moonlight." It's by The Firm, which is a band Jimmy Page was in throughout the mid '80s.
love youtube for this stuff thanks for uploading.
he looks a tad drunk here me thinks but what a ledgend
The Song Remains The Same, Jimmy Page, ever The Best!
He's so good
Quit your hating, this is raw and fucking awesome
Für mich sind Jimmy Page und
Ritchie Blackmore die beiden größten Gittaristen aller Zeiten.
Möge Gott sie dehnen.😇😇
Well, at least he wasn't sweating all over the place like he does some times when he's "sick". At the end when he's talking I'm just staring at his cigarette the whole time waiting for him to flick it before it falls off! Thanks for this post even with the slight cringe factor involved.
Jimmy I love you
Wow often i find my self writing stuff like this! ;) Talk about some reassurance!
Jimmy page is fuckin amazing
I would give anything to be able to sit down with this man and jam with our acoustics but oh wel i can only dream
Actually are fascinated, I adore!
@coal1987 - White Summer is on the Yardbird's albums 'Little Games' and 'Cumular Limit', Midnight Moonlight is on The Firm's self-titled 1st album, and Kashmir is on Led Zeppelin's 6th album 'Physical Graffiti'
1:29 Midnight moonlight............What a song.
what i wouldn't give to watch this man perform white summer...
melhor de todos jimmy page

She flies through the night on silver wings
Jimmy Page is awesome!
El mejor de la historia
cool share. Thank you
Jimmy fascinant et attachant ❤❤❤
the look on his face is priceless =]
@HuggyGraves - what follows is 'How Many More Times', from the Led Zeppelin performance recorded on Danish TV in 1969, which is available to view on UA-cam from the ledzeppelin channel. There was no other 'lost performances' of Led Zeppelin in the Arena documentary.
F8cking fantastic
20 stars!
Even after what was at that time 25 years of hard living, coke, divorces, smack, and a tragically dead best friend, Jimmy can still spark up a Marlboro, sit on a stool piss drunk, pick up a Martin, and start owning. Lets see the guitar players of today match that!
@TheEvilWeed
One of the demos originally named 'Swan Song' recorded during the Headly Grange Sessions sounds EXACTLY as played from 1:32 to 1:58. 'Mignight Moonlight' was a combination of more than one of the unused riffs from those sessions.
@planesx12 Oh did I forget to say he's one of the greatest song writers ever and played some terribly awesome licks.
You earned the right to use it. Good call. More people should use this excuse.
that man is a genius I wish I could hear more of his folk style stuff
he s one of the principar reason im playing guitar
i love how he basically created his own tuning to basically harmonize the entire guitat
@SexyYfronts
Yeah, I've still got the whole programme on VHS.
You can see it here on UA-cam, on badwolf1973's channel.
Hahahaha the explanation at the end :D
jimmy composition skills are still superior
