Created for the new 2008 Subaru STi, this video is a rebuttal to the car community's complaints that the new STi had become "domesticated" from its rally/racer background. Our inspiration was that the new model does in fact have the same power, poise, and exclusivity as the outgoing model. It anything, this is one "beast" of a car.

This commercial is actually really awesome. It's simple, and paints a realistic, everyday experience, not some 9/10ths adrenaline-filled lifestyle on a windy desert road at sunset.

My favorite commercial has to be the Neon SRT-4 one. That commercial was seriously hype as hell, and everyone wanted an SRT-4 after that.
Except there's nothing realistic about a bird getting sucked into the intercooler duct of a stationary car.

That’s the intercooler intake, dumbass. None of that air goes into the engine.
It’s downstream from the turbo so even if the bird could get into it though a hole, it would immediately be blown out by the boost.

The funniest part about this commercial is the fact that they say it’s “powerful as ever” at the end but they actually nerfed that gen STI‘s engine by 20 hp and added a bunch of weight for safety so they’re actually the slowest Sti out of the bunch
Best Subaru is the 2004 Impreza, which I know is basically the same car as the 2002 one but the '04 has nicer front end

@@OoddleNoodle 2.5 engine has more torque, which becomes more apparent when you start tuning. Which is great, but it also chews through transmissions in a way the 2.0 doesn't. Don't quote me on this, but I believe it's also more generally prone to failing (not that the 2.0 isn't anyway).
For my part, I drive an 06 WRX and keeping the thing on the road costs me more money than it did to actually buy in the first place.

@@growingup4487 it's more efficient than a larger displacement engine, that's why the NA V6s in many sedans are being replaced by turbo 4cyls.

I had an opportunity to drive both the 2007 and 2008 model STIs (pre and post facelift) and while the 2007 was a lot more powerful, it is completely useless for everyday driving. In fact, its excessive power detracted from the driving experience because there was no place where I could safely (or legally) open it up. The new one is (slightly) lower performance than it's predecessors, but for practical use (i.e. city driving) it strikes a much better balance than the previous STIs.

Subie only has gasket and engine issues when people do tons of mods but don't tune correctly and or best the shit out of them. I daily a 99 legacy gt and have been beating on it for 6 years straight in northeast Ohio and haven't had a single issue. Don't blame Subaru for people being dumb.

Pcv valve recall before that because they would grenade the motor when they fell apart. Head gasket leaks on every engine before that. -Subaru Technician. Comparatively Subarus are good to very good, but no issues? Nah.
@@twizted3k my legacy never has issues even after being under water up to the mirrors and it's a 99 with over 200k miles that gets beat on daily. The only issue is a worn out clutch but that's maintenance. New cars aren't very good regardless of brand. Everyone puts out unfinished products for the public to find issues. Hence why I drive older cars.
Gonna be hard to blow an engine with this since this only leads to the intercooler....

@@alphaares6027 subarus have this reputation of blowing head gaskets but the truth is that people don't like cars that need regular maintenance and they just leave it until it blows up, by the way, the head gasket thing is for non turbo subarus, the turbo one like this sti in the commercial is to blow Ringlands.

@@speedguitardemon it’s not the head gaskets you have to worry about, it’s the head studs. my 08 wrx had a head gasket leak because the studs were only designed to handle 10psi of boost, when i was pushing it to 20psi on stock head studs. anything above 10psi and you start to lift the heads. now that i have ARP head studs, the only thing i have to worry about is my oil control rings.

Not when you rev it. It's literally a just hole in the bonnet. Nothing else. It doesn't "feed" anything, it flows air over the intercooler passively.
