    Chris, I am pursuing a BA in Digital Photography part-time online. (I am a veteran and using my benefits). This week I had to submit a video on product photography. I stumbled across your video and this was exactly what I picturing in my head. My wife brought some construction paper from her school and used all the settings you mentioned. Wow what a show! Thank you for being thorough in explaining the entire process. I used a can of Bubly and would be happy to share the final image. I am still learning, but you have a new fan!

    Great video and explanation. I have a couple of questions. 1. You have lots of spill-off from your soft box onto your background…why not add a bit more separation? 2. Why not use a remote trigger? Might make your life easier… 3. Products tend to want accurate color…you turned around and adjusted the hue of the can. Have you had any issues with companies and the color aspect of their product? I love the piecing easy/medium/pro levels showing the complexity. Just curious about these three points.

      Hi Joshua! Thanks for the comment.
      1 - stylistic choice - either could be cool!
      2 - unfortunately the ones I've tried don't have a continuous shooting function in them. Critical for this type of photography
      3 - definitely need to represent the brand with accurate colors. I tweaked it to match their website/social page. Always need to be accurate when representing the brand in this regard!

    Good video but given you're using the exact same setup/settings for each shot, I don't see how one is more advanced than the other. Looks more to me like three simple ideas to try. I believe you could tight up your editing to reflect that and get a shorter, more engaging video out of it. Just my two cents. Regardless, I appreciate your time and effort, it was interesting!

    As a landscape photographer who has shot multiple times in the pouring rain, I laughed so hard when you put the baggy on your camera. Granted I think my camera is much more water resistant that your camera. Sometimes you don't get a choice with the weather and you have to adapt, I carry a baggy with me but most of the time it just gets in the way and the droplets get stuck on the bag which throws the auto focus out of whack.

      Oh wait what is flashion is the light or the thingy on top of your camera? ahaha i really need to learn more about this

    • @ChrisPieta
      @ChrisPieta  2 роки тому

      The flash is so bright it overpowers the light in the room. The camera doesn't care if the room is fully lit or dark at this point due to the power of the flash!

    • @ChrisPieta
      @ChrisPieta  2 роки тому

      The thing on top of the camera is called a flash trigger. Since the camera is detached from the flash, the flash trigger tells the flash to fire when I press the shutter button.
      Look up "Strobist lighting 101" on google and read that guide, very useful.

    Always great videos. Questions. Did you say you mostly or always use a 50mm lens? I just got an 85mm. Question. I notice not a lot of actual Photoshop used in product photography mostly just Lightroom, is that normal? I use a towel & shower curtain under the paper to absorb the liquid. Makes it much easier to clean up.

    • @ChrisPieta
      @ChrisPieta  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah I use a 50mm, 85 is a great length too for this stuff. The lightroom part is normal, I use photoshop for removing those blemishes (well actually my editor). Towel idea is good!

    Hey Chris,
    Wondering if you could recommend another strobe light at a friendlier price point than this Godox.
    I currently have a Amaran 60x LED continuous, but I was looking for a strobe light to better capture action / get brighter light. Price range I was thinking ~$250-400
    Also, I was thinking a useful video you could do is how to use both strobe and continuous lighting together.
    Thanks!
