you forget the first building ever made, obiusly the tallest at the time
nobody knows what was the first building made. it certainly was some wooden house made 30 000 years ago or smth
lol more like piles of fucking sticks made as a makeshift tent... That was probably the first building. monkeyo you're a memer i luv it
unless there was a beever somewhere building a taller dam
XD
@@ehorn9646 not that im smart but don't you think people would've used mud first or even clay first before wood?

I was just about to ask about that

+GeographyHub My life is in shambles.
GeographyHub Can't wait for the Part 2!!! I love architecture and amazing buildings and structures!!! XD
Build a church for 700 years and it gets blown in war. No respect for architecture
They tried to preserve architecture where they could, but bombs with no guidance systems aren't perfect.
David Prentice They just didn't care like in Dresden.
It got blown in a war? Huehuehuehuehue...
the steeple's still standing though
Well they were probably busy with the whole millions of people dying, horribly ,to care about a building.
Cologne Church was actually overtaken by another Cathedral a few years later, by the Ulmer Münster in Ulm, Germany.

Yay for Lincolnshire, and Lincoln Cathedral!
Yesss Lincoln
Literally only watched it for that reason. Shame he calls it a church half the time and doesn't mention that it's in Lincolnshire, England.
Yay we actually get some recognition
2:03 excuse me? the central what? tHe cENtraL sPiRaL ??!? show some bloody respect, this is the pride of lincoln ur talking about smh. literally our only claim to fame.
The only good thing about Lincoln
Personally I think adding a thin pole at the top of your building is cheating a little. Like, I could add a 200 ft radio tower to the top of my building and edge out in height over my competitor by 10 feet. But is my building _really_ 10 feet taller?
Yes
Yes and no. On wiki for instance, both heights can be displayed: with or without the spear. Moreover, some building have grown taller over time when the spear was or is a radio antenna than was added or remplaced and onceforth increased the whole building size. So there are the original and the current height.
Ya if it's no a building but if it's meant to be there for a purpose like on the CN Tower then it counts
+Terra D Serph
They differentiate between "Tallest tower" and "Tallest structure" in order to measure with and without the cheap pole on the top.
Yes it is
This video was already on schedule, so don't worry. Part 2 for the State flag video is still coming out later this week. (P.S: No idea while recording I messed up three times on the Lincoln Cathedral. Sorry about that.)
+GeographyHub first
why not now??? dammit!!!!
Can you do a video on 'the change in Geography and Climate in the Maze Runner.'
+GeographyHub You forgot about-St. Olaf's Church, Tallinn
you forgot Eiffel Tower builder in 1889 it's about 920 feet tall
Historic monument : burns
UA-cam : recommended time
Based on searches 🤷♂️
The Colone catherdral was IMIDIATLY overtaken by the Ulmer Münster a Gothic Church in Ulm Germany with a hight of 162 meters
Wasn't the Eiffel Tower the tallest structure in the world from 1889 to 1930?
No
Indeed, he talked about he washington monument but not about this other monument only 9 years younger but that would old the record until 1930.
+Ryan Herich Yes.
beat me to it
+Team Crast's 1L1KEC4TS
Maybe he's talking specifically about _buildings_, which, as far as I know, the Eiffel Tower is not.
But then, maybe he just forgot about it. Somehow.
"Strasbourg cathedral in France held the record in 1647"?
Actually, Strasbourg wasn't french at this time - it was free Imperial City until Louis XIV annexed it in 1681.
HISTORY!
well it is now
His Story
He said 'in France', not 'in France in 1647'
Does it fucking matter
You kind of forgot that big bronze spike in Paris, you know that 300+ m Eiffel Tower?
+Moor Jin I was going to mention that it had to be a habitable building but no, unless cleopatra lives in the Washington monument!
+Moor Jin Never heard of it...
+ScoreBL The Eiffel Tower was opened in 1889. He forgot it, it should have been in the video
Eiffel *Tower*
The title of the video is structures, so the Eiffel tower should definitely be on the list.
PART 2: ua-cam.com/video/kjiIC2TWWG8/v-deo.html
+GeographyHub But that's part one D:
Lmao
KnowledgeHub
Is there a reason why the Eiffel tower was left out of this video? It was actually the tallest structure for 41 years!
+estebanrueda1 there is coming a part 2 if you listen closely
+thomas kersting Maybe buy he talked about "tallest building in the world" with the metropolitan insurance which is 2 decades younger and clearly shorter.
+thomas kersting And he talked about the chrysler, that is the building which broke the 41 years long Eiffel tower's record.
then idk
This video has a strong American bias as far as I can tell, which is fair enough.

It’s honestly a shame that all our traditional architecture in the UK is slowly disappearing it’s like the politicians have no respect for our incredible heritage and past.
"Classic Germany, always benefiting from British destruction."

Why did I read this comment when the guy in the video was saying the same as what I was reading. I think that didn’t make sense.

what about the "Ulmer Münster"? with 161 meter it was the highest steeple in the world.

Here in the Balkans we don't build towers. We build roads, it's the same but horizontal. And those towers mentioned in the vid, they're a joke! Americans can build a tower for 1 year, Bosnia can build 20km of road for just 20 years! Serbia's still waiting for the Kragujevac-E75, but Montenegro is the clear winner - they're waiting for their first highway for a century now!
NBK Srbija
A building is much more difficult to build than a road
He's joking.
Cheek The Breek Holy fuck you are stupid

And Montenegro's first highway is being built by China.
I love tall buildings.

Awesome video! This is a topic I've researched a lot in the past and I was happy to see it covered here. I'm also glad to hear there will be a part 2 with newer and proposed tallest buildings. I really like both of your channels because history and geography, and how they're connected, are some of my favorite topics to research. Keep up the good work!
Fun fact half way up the Washington monument there is a sign written in Welsh to remember the Welsh people who funded the other half to be built
Wait that's not really fun, that's not really fun at all...
Thank you Wales.
No body : highest building counting in FEETS and INCHS
Rest of the world : Metric System on.
James Smith nah.
@James Smith Nope. They use the metric system.
@@RyosukeTakahashiRX7 I live in Méxcio and pilots use both, feet and metric system, but that might be because of the proximity to the US, who knows.
@James Smith Because planes are made internationally so having both makes sense. Although i was fairly certain height was measured in metres everywhere but the USA, welp.
We need to construct our own system that is above all...
What about the Eiffel tower? It was the tallest structure in the world until it was beaten by Chrysler in New York.
The Alexandrian lighthouse looks a lot like an early New York skyscraper

An early New York skyscraper looks a lot like the Alexandrian lighthouse*
You're welcome.
Ivo Sotirov you mean early new your skyscrapers look like the alexandrian lighthouse
Johan Thunberg same shit dickweeds
I'm pretty sure the Thurgood Marshall courthouse design in downtown Manhattan is influenced by the lighthouse.
I'm happy Lincoln cathedral is in this video
I really love his humor , he can make an video both educational and funny at the same time :D
These channels are casually becoming more and more memeish. I love it.
And Jesus said the money for these churches could be better spent feading people.
+HG Shurtugal feeding*
Alec Joseph whatever
If God wills that the Church have vast wealth that your pathetic self can never attain in a hundred lifetimes, you can not look at us upright Christians with a broken heart. All of these poor people must have sinned in their past lives since they are not in heaven, and this worldly life is their just punishment.
John Lawn is that a bible verse
+John Lawn pretty sure Jesus disliked wealth in general.
I went to Rouen once, and I can guarantee that when you’re up close to the cathedral there it is actually the most beautiful building ever created!
The tallest man-made structure from 1889 to 1930 was the Eiffel tower with a height of 300 meters ! You forgot that or do you plan to show it in Part 2 ?
+François Calvaresi Well, he's mainly talking about buildings, and the Eiffel Tower was not the tallest building but the tallest man-made structure. Then again, the Washington Monument isn't a building either and the video is titled tallest structures so...eh what the fuck do I know. I guess he just forgot/didn't know that. Call him a filthy uncultured American or something whatever makes you happy.
+FireOps Everyone makes mistakes. But still, it's quite strange.
+François Calvaresi Although you are correct, its inclusion would have made for a boring video.
+TheJaredtheJaredlong why?
WIELDnotWILD It's inclusion would have wiped out all the more interesting history of what we consider "skyscrapers" and not just tall structures. I suppose he could have included it, and then discussed those other buildings too though.
#RIP noterdom
Not the noterdom!
Sadly. Yes
In my city we took 800 years to build our church. It was finished in 1890 and is to this date the tallest church in the world. So basically if my city would have finished 2 years earlier, we would have had the tallest building in the world.
800 years for nothing goddamnit
Das Ulmer Münster hat nur 500 Jahre gebraucht
What about the Eiffel Tower? It's 300m tall. It your video would be just about buildings, I'd understand. But the title specifically says "structures".
when was it built? I'm waiting to see the cn tower on his next video, but idk

Buildings were possibly way bigger than the Tower at the time anyways
One thing which annoyed me about this video: All the measurements in the narration are in Imperial measurements.
Well it's what we use here in America and he is American
All the measurements are in metres underneath.
Nothing about the Eiffel Tower ?
+Adrien Turmo not yet i think
It was the most recent long-term highest building record holders, being the tallest for over 40 years. To not mention the Eiffel Tower is like leaving the 1900s out of history books.
Can't wait for the next video to mention Chicago

Notre-Dame straight up got yeeted.
2:46 "construction began in 1185" but the text says began in 1115
Wha???
Yay Cologne!!! Greetings from there…
Hey Cody, you forgot the Eiffel Tower, which was built in 1889 and considerably surpassed the Washington Monument in height. It held the record of highest structure until the Chrysler Building 40 years later, so it definitely needs mentioning. And since the Washington obelisk (not a building) is in the list, then the Eiffel Tower (also not a building) absolutely needs to be included
he said structure
Eiffel Tower IS a structure man...
Writes 1115, says 1185 what the -------------------------!!!!!
He said the transcript was correct and he misread a lot of it, he didn't notice it until he was done editing
Thank you for not using BCE. I hate that shit.
why?
Religion?
BCE annoyed me too. Athiests were okay with "B.C." way back when Athiesm started, why aren't they okay with it now?
+Master Archer It's not atheists.
It's the fucking liberal scum who think that we aren't.
+GhostlyTeehee because I don't even know what it stands for, no I'm not religious it's just really easy to remember that BC stands for before Christ and ad means after death
The cologne cathedral is not the tallest church in the world. The Münster of Ulm is 4 Meters higher standing at 161 Meters (vs. 157 in cologne)
I wonder if the Tokyo Tower will be in the next video. It isn't built yet, but they proposed to be a 1km high living area, as I've read about it. (not the red and white striped Tokyo Tower that stands today which is not tall at all... in comparison)
kingdom tower in Saudi arabia is a 1km tall building to and will complete in 2020

Then he wouldn't have mentioned the Washington Monument.
