Hi, here is how to resolve beeping with forscan: 1. Start programming of BCM (main), then select engineering mode from dropdown list. 2. Search for towbar and change to „with towbar attachment” 3. Search for trailer module and select the correct module (in my case 13 pin) 4. Turn off the ignition, get out and get in the car, start forscan again and create new car profile. It will find the TRM Module now. If not then give it some time with ignition off 5. Start TRM (as build) programming and modify the last line 791-03-01 to x19x. In my case I modified from 009C to 019C - it was automatically changed to 019D. After this I was able to use the button and towbar was retracting. Thank you very much for this video. It helped me a lot with fitting towbar to Ford Escape 2018 and definitely saved some money. Thankfully CAN cables were the same color (which is not always the case with US), additionally I had to drill a hole for the wiring loom in the trunk. It is catching the bumper a little when opening but I guess I would have to release the bolts and move the towbar back or front a little.
Nice to see this explained since I could not find a manual online for the installation. I get a little seasick sometimes though from the images. I'm a bit dissapointed that you have to root the canbus wires all the way to the front. I'm going to place a fixed one I guess, so I won't need the swivel module.
Nice detail video just fitted a 2nd hand towbar to my kuga my self in process of sourcing a wiring room as it looked to much to remove the loom off other kuga. Is everything required in the wire kit
Hi, good video thx for that. My Mondeo has the electric towbar but sometimes it does not swivel at all. After disconnecting and reconnecting battery it works again for a while. Might that be a swivel module issue?
Personally i would have a look at the swivel release mechanism itself first, the mechanical side prior to modules, unless you know it to be in good order, in the past i have had to clean up the locking pins their switches, 👍
Original slam panel goes on ebay. Bolting to the car is a simple task, if you have the bar then it can only go the one way. Use grease and waxoyl down the channels.
I've got a retractable towbar in my 2013 focus...one day the battery went flat and never worked since...every time I start the car I get 5 beeps and sometimes during driving.....any ideas what might be the problem
Yes i queried this to and was told by Ford main dealer that it is a loop which ever one you cut is simply breaking the loop, think of it as a ring main putting a socket in.
Hi,that’s great video! Plesse, can you help me whit advice,I have Ford S-max 2017 and I’v bout used retractable tow bar and I,m in doubt, does I need the same elektrical kit like you used?! On my tow bar allready exist 13pin trailer plug!!!
Your car will not be able to take that 13pin socket without a aftermarket or genuine wiring kit. If it is electric retractable you will need to go down the genuine route.
@@TinkerBod yes,it is electric retractable that I have. I have tried to find a parts on the e-bay,as you wrote, but I am not sure I can find them. I have tried also on RatesFord. Can you please help me whit, which precisely part I need and maybe som link for it...( I can send you a pic whit tow bar I have,if you send me your email ;-) ) And,Thank you mate, that means a lot for me and tell a lot about you.
When you phoned up rates ford and gave your reg and asked for a dictated tow bar wiring kit for a detachable towbar what did they say? This is all I did and they were brilliant. At my local ford dealer they even gave me a screen shot of wiring diagram and component layout. Although they were very dear, rates undercut them by quite a bit. The only way i found out what i needed was contacting these people and looking at the computer screen of my local dealer
Hello @tinkerbod, I recently installed the same kit as you have, except that my car had a wiring harness ready in the trunk. I have a problem like yours, 24 minutes into the video, 2 beeps and no response. I have the cable and forscan, can you walk me through the process of activating the hook? I don't know where to find these options, the only thing I found and changed was the presence of a hook and the 13-pin harness.
Sorry, as in the video i took mine into a chap at the main dealers. He said he had trouble getting it to find the folding module but the lighting side was simple. How this was done i have no idea, sorry.
Wanna fit mine? Lol. Im guessing that the foot under the bumper motion sensor to open/close the tailgate when your hands are full no longer works with the tow bat fitted?
😁 No thanks getting too old to get under other peoples cars have enough motivation troubles with my own. But ref sensor, a genuine tow bar has no effect whatsoever on the operation of the sensor, i dont know about non genuine though, 👍 all the best...
Well I have a 2018 Kuga St-Line, the only sensors I have at the rear are parking sensors. I asked Rates Ford to confirm the parts required and they said the brake and towing modules you give from that that manual aren't compatible with my car. Do you think that is correct? I'm struggling to find out what alternative parts I would need if that is the case.
@@TinkerBod Rates stopped replying to me. I called them and they said they would look into it. They said that when inputting my VIN into the system, it told them those modules weren't compatible. All seems very odd. I have the additional tab in the rear fuse box so the car would accept the mod. Instead of people opting for the towbar, was there a towbar preparation option when the cars were sold? That may explain it.
Yes some vehicles although the same model are more pre fitted than others. It said this in the instructions. I had a similar thing when i did a tow bar on my van. Both my van and my mates are registered within 1 month of each other and exactly the same spec yet his had a loom from the BCM to the rear I did not. Both our kits are where exactly the same. The vans were 6 months old and neither had, had a tow bar fitted before...
I had a focus with a fixed bar and always walked into it and greased up my legs and it looks ugly. I had a detachable on my mondeo, yes it gave a clean look but for me the bar had to stay in the boot in the way and when i need it you can bet it was under all the stuff in the boot, once found down on your hands and knees in the dirt to locate it in the socket then try and pull down the hidden electrics, end up getting covered in dirt. Now one buttom and the lot pops out, retractables every time for me now. Quick and easy and completely hidden, car details are all the the video. Kuga late 2018 st-x full pack
@@TinkerBod And what about the dealer. What there is need to be programmed-what have you asked for? How much do you pay for the programming of the tow bar?
Just asked them to program my towbar, plugged it in, it found module, ticked the items to upload and it did it very quickly, price was mates rates, but i think at a main dealer its normally around £50-60.
@@TinkerBod i have one more question.at the front, there are more cables then one, with the same color needed.are the right one the swisted pair or should i search for "alone" cable with the same diameter? Thx!
Its the twisted pair and what i was told by the dealer, agreed its very confusing and the installation manual makes no reference to which one or that there are in fact two. But I have also spoke to another dealer and he said it does not matter. Both are Can-Bus and modules will be detected.
Greetings and thank you. I once worked in birmingham for many years when young and influential picking up the accent, Im actually a carrot cruncher born and bred. @@TinkerBod Well I finally got the time to fit my wiring. Tried it earlier and everything works apart from the brake lights on the caravan, work fine on the car??? If you buy the boxes i show in the video its all there. For the cost of the electrics its not worth the time stripping old electrics out.

Assume you don’t reinstall the original crash bar. Wish you had also included a bit about bolting the bar to the body. Any tips there?

Was the car equipped with the loom and a connectors as standard?
Thanks...
No, all but the upgraded fuse board at the rear all looms and modules were purchased. Expensive but i saved on the fitting 😁
About to fit similar, great oversight. Thank you.
No problem, thank you...
Do you know it the trailer module is the same for a fixed towbar?
Great Video, Does the kuga one not swivel fully out and engauge like the mondeo one?
Thanks, No unfortunately not, the focus i had was also like this.
I’m diggin those fingerless gloves bro
You know I have had those since my paper round and 13 years old, shame the jumpers I worn from back then would not fit now.

Hi pal would you be interested in fitting another one of these mate
No sorry only jobs for myself 👍
How did you know what Cambus wires to cut that bit look confusing
And the wire you put in fuse box. Mate mine already has it pal
Really appreciate it if i could contact your mate help me in doing mine mate much appreciated please
There are four wires canbus where the instructions tell you to cut either pair is ok.
Im having a problem with mine (Factory fitted). When I press the button, nothing happens at all, not even the beep. Any leads would be appreciated!
Note: It has worked before
Definitely go for the fuses first, take note which one has blown, if its the lighting its a fair chance its water in the wiring/plug 👍
