hi, could you help me with this ? I have a summary view in Dashboard like sales last 2 months month wise. So, I have data for last 2 months which changes over time at begnning of each new month like Jan-FEb, Feb-Mar and so on. I need 3 buttons, 2 for each month and 1 for summary. If I click on any month button, it shoull display all underlying data for that month in the Dash on top of Summary View. When I click on Summary button it should display summary view again. I am looking to complete this using Action, Parameter and Control Visibility option.
thanks a lot god bless you sqlbelle we wait for your comment coz your comment is precious makes us feel on top of the town one question maem if you feel free what does sql refers to in your name its very interesting
Thank you Abhishek - I appreciate your comment and feedback. About the "sql" part, I used to be more active in the SQL Server space (back in the day) and that's how I took up the name sqlbelle - mvp.microsoft.com/en-us/PublicProfile/4034916?fullName=donabel%20santos
Thank you, very insightful! Was searching for a good tutorial on filter actions to finish my dashboard which involves buttons with filters. Apparently it's hard to find a good source of information on this topic.
that was great and really helpfull. I am using one action filter to hide(unhide) my sheet, but when I use the same field as a a filter to all the sheets that use the same data source, does not change the action filter, so my sheet will be hide, Any idea on how to change action filter using other filter??
Hi Really enjoy your informative videos. I have a question on adding dynamic commentary to line charts. I would also like to share the twbx file on this. please let me know how to do this
Nice video, thank you. I have a question on passing in an action from the dashboard into a custom query. For example, i have a scatter chart and when a user clicks on a given point in the scatter, i would like the selection to be passed into the custom query. Is this possible?
Thank you for the amazing video. I have a couple of dashboards where only one sheet is filtered even though I selected it in the actions menu. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?
Is it possible to use an Action Filter to update a normal dropdown/local filter? In this case, for the states, if you selected Nevada on the map (using action filter), then Nevada text would be selected on a standard, normal single selection drop down menu filter?
Hi, I have a question regarding actions with filters. My worksheet already has filters added to it, however, when I add a filter action to my dashboard it then un-filters all filters in my worksheets, i can't seem to find what I am doing wrong.
Thank you so much for your feedback and suggestion, Reshma. I am really hoping to develop a course as well. I do teach a curated course at a local college: www.bcit.ca/courses/introduction-to-visual-analytics-with-tableau-comp-2256/
Another way this helps is with quick filters that only show relevant values. To use an example of Category and Subcategory filters where subcategory is set to only show relevant values. A user selects Furniture as the category and Office Chairs as the subcategory. But if they now go back to select Office Supplies as the category the viz will go blank. Why? Because Office Chairs is not a valid subcategory of Office Supplies.
Tbh I don't know what a vacation tracker looks like. But this video shows case lots of amazing visuals. I hope you'll find it useful. ua-cam.com/video/pW19snWXmKs/v-deo.html
hi madam... this is siva from hyderabad. working on TABLEAU since 5 years. you are from canada. so can i move canada for tableau job? how is tableau job market in canada? how i contact to you? please suggest
CAN ANYONE HELP ON THIS PLEASE, A BIT URGENT ON IT. Let say there is a data as below: - Date field (order date) of 12 months data ( Jan 1st 2021 to Dec 31st 2021). I have created 3 parameters 1. Schedule - DAILY, WEEKLY, MONTHLY 2. Counts - 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 3. Order start date - desired date (users choice) Now the question is, when i select parameters as below, the similar output i want to get. Scenario 1: Schedule = DAILY Count = 3 Order State Date = 20-JAN-21 Output: (It should be the 3 records from order start date based on schedule) 20-JAN-21 21-JAN-21 22-JAN-21 Scenario 2: Schedule = WEEKLY Count = 3 Order State Date = 20-JAN-21 Output: ( from the given date to that dates end of week and next 2 weeks complete) - so the 3 week count from current date 20,21,22,23 - first Week (from given date to end of week) 24,25,26,27,28,29,30 - second whole week 31, 01(feb), 02,3,4,5,6 - third whole week Scenario 3: Schedule = MONTHLY Count = 2 Order State Date = 20-JAN-21 Output: from 20th jan 2021 to feb 28 2021.
Thanks Ben. An "action" does something when a mark (like bar, or map, or symbol) is clicked or hovered on. For example, it can filter as it navigates, or it can just filter. It can highlight on over. It can go to a URL. A "navigation" button just simply allows you to go to another worksheet or another dashboard without "doing" anything. For example, if you click on a state, you cannot pass that state value to the worksheet or dashboard you go to. Does this help?

Hello Madam,
We are doing migration from Tableau to CRM analytics. Is there any similar functionality in CRM Analytics
Thanks for sharing the great detailed presentation as always.
Thank you Guna!
Is there a way to automatically filter a whole dashboard when you navigate to it? I don't want to make the same worksheet multiple times.

CAN ANYONE HELP ON THIS PLEASE, A BIT URGENT ON IT.
Let say there is a data as below:
- Date field (order date) of 12 months data ( Jan 1st 2021 to Dec 31st 2021).
I have created 3 parameters
1. Schedule - DAILY, WEEKLY, MONTHLY
2. Counts - 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
3. Order start date - desired date (users choice)
Now the question is, when i select parameters as below, the similar output i want to get.
Scenario 1:
Schedule = DAILY
Count = 3
Order State Date = 20-JAN-21
Output: (It should be the 3 records from order start date based on schedule)
20-JAN-21
21-JAN-21
22-JAN-21
Scenario 2:
Schedule = WEEKLY
Count = 3
Order State Date = 20-JAN-21
Output: ( from the given date to that dates end of week and next 2 weeks complete) - so the 3 week count from current date
20,21,22,23 - first Week (from given date to end of week)
24,25,26,27,28,29,30 - second whole week
31, 01(feb), 02,3,4,5,6 - third whole week
Scenario 3:
Schedule = MONTHLY
Count = 2
Order State Date = 20-JAN-21
Output:
from 20th jan 2021 to feb 28 2021.
Hmmmm? Why did we need to wrap the COUNTD inside of the TOTAL func? I am not getting it. Wonderful video otherwise! ^^
still kind of confused on the difference between actions and navigation
