Hi Kamon, Thanks for superb videos which have been an enormous help in my second year bee keeping. With home construction, I have some warped 2 X 4's, so plan is to mount a deep box near the top of an 8 - 10 footer. A hole drilled near top of 2 X 4 will take a rope to be tossed over a branch of tree, and hauled upright/vertical. Bring the line back down and wrap around tree and 2 x 4 to secure it. Put a cleat (like on a boat for dock lines) on the 2 X 4 to secure end of line. So that's the plan. Being a wood worker I hate nailing into trees. Using a deep box with old frames is a great idea. Will send a picture. Lovely Laura, and saw one adorable toddler. God Bless!
Just found your channel, lucky me :) straight forward, down to earth and very good info on many topics. Thanks a lot!
Thanks Marco!
Hey you slacking? LoL! No new videos ! LoL! I look forward to seeing a new video . I just finished doing hive PM’S to control small hive beetles. I didn’t see a lot , the beetle blaster caught an average of three to four . My big honey producer had seven in the oil . I added swiffer sheets in each hive to help catch them critters. My bees are still bringing in nectar. The sourwood trees here are still blooming. . And yes we’ve had some rainfall Saturday. Over 2” . The short variety of golden rod is blooming now . The tall variety has about a month to go before they start blooming. Hope things are going well on your side . Prince George, Virginia.
I would love a job grafting, raising and caring for queens. I think the whole process is fascinating, exciting and satisfying.
Thanks for posting
Would you consider doing a video on the subject of why you cage queens to break the brood cycle? Your live chat the other night really got me to thinking about that but you weren’t able to elaborate on what all needs to be done and when!! Thanks a lot and your the only reason I’m still able to keep bees. I’ve learned so much from you man. Thanks!!
The last thing we did before shipping was to give them a drop of water. It's much faster to lay them out and dip your finger into a cup of water and just dip and touch the screen away from the candy.
When I get mail order queens I do exactly what you say in the video. I put a drop or two of water on the cage screen and a drop of honey to feed the attendant bees. This is especially important to me if I can't put the caged queen into a hive for a day or two. Great video and great information!
Gm Kamon. . Happy Sunday. I typically give mine a drop of water and a smidge drop of honey. Registered for the Oct TN conference, can't wait.

Helpful and important to know, Thank you
Hello ❤
Its good to have the candy end of the cage up so by chance you give them more than one drop of water or honey, it won't get down in the candy.
The queen can get stuck in it. I paid heavily for this knowledge.
Love the Queen info. Hope you do an update soon. Glad to see your subs increase! 👍Kamon, 🌹Laurel 🤗😁
I remember not so long ago that he was so excited and surprise he hit 10k subs and now he's almost at 40k. Must be his good looks. LOL
@@russellkoopman3004 👏😁👍
I wished you made this video a month ago’ ❤️ thanks 🙏
Great information!! Try dipping your finger in the water and rake it across the hole furthest from candy of the queen cage. The water sticks to screen and fills the holes in screen without dripping into the cage. Really enjoyed the live chat last night as well. Thank you.
How long will a mated queen survive in a cage with only 4-5 nurse bees if you provide honey and water? Shes in a plastic cup and the nurses have been feeding her for at least 4 days now. Will she last another 4?
She likely will but better to get her in a hive if you can
Thanks for the great info .
Sir if we get a bee from forest we can put a queen in a cage and put in a hive or what we can do for a queen
Hi Kamon! I'm a 9 year hobby beekeeper in the mid-Hudson Valley of NY State with 5 hives. We are in a dearth right now and I fed all the hives with substitute pollen patties I made here using one of your formulas. All my bees love it. From your video discussions I learned this is needed to keep all the nurse bees fed, so they can produce royal jelly to feed the queen. I noticed that is some of the hives the queen has stopped laying. Will the queens start laying again after the nurse bees can feed them royal jelly again? In the past I have lost a few queens at the end of August I think because I only fed them sugar water 1:1 during the dearth that starts here at the end of July. Can this happen if there is no pollen coming in?
we need more video,s
Hi Kamon, I/We have recently started keeping bees 🐝 last month actually, we did our inspection yesterday,we had put a super on last week (left the queen excluder off)we were hoping for some drawing out of the frames in the super but they have only just started a tiny corner on one frame. Am I expecting too much in one month from a 5 frame Nuc? They have 1 and 1/2 frames to finish drawing out in the brood box. Sorry if the question is long I wanted to give you all the information 😊 Thank you for your help.
Hi Kamon, I’m a new beekeeper from the UK. I’ve been watching your videos for months now and they have been my go to for getting my head round this new hobby. My bees recently swarmed and the original hive had a queen cell. She should have left her cell on 12 July. Today I opened the hive for the first time and they’ve filled the whole hive with stores, including brood box. I know she wouldn’t be likely to lay by now. Is it possible that I have a queenless hive? How would I know if the queen made her way back and is in the hive or is it too early? Should I be thinking about ordering a new queen?
Great information 🍺🍺
I bought the incubator you recommended in one of your videos. I'm hatching out new queens. How how soon after they emerge do I pull them out of the incubator and let them run at room temperature? Is it better to let them sit inside until I am ready to put them in the mating box or take them out as soon as I see them emerged? In HI, temps never a prob in my area.
Hey Todd I purposely don't mess with virgin queens. We candle them and introduce the cells prior to emergence. Richard noel on UA-cam knows much more than I do in regards to the care and the introduction of virgin queens
This is off topic but will bees use comb that has dried out
“Ooh this is vintage” 😂
What is that massive beautiful tree in the background?, anyone know?
I believe it is an American Red Maple not 100% sure though
Hi Kamon, I had grafted some queens and they hatched a bit earlier than I expected so I have a few in roller cages above a queen excluder in a double. I plan to take them out and stick them in mini nucs to try them out today. Is there any reason to not bank queens this way?
Good afternoon I love your videos I would love to talk to you I’m new in beekeeping live in Jamaica
Off this subject. Have you ever used Hopguard 3 for mites and what do you think of it ? Also do you treat for mites durning the dearth?
Bit late to this but interesting nonetheless. I can see that delay in getting the queens into a hive can lead to a sub-optimal outcome because you want them to start laying asap.
Out of curiosity, what would the ballpark figure be for a queen? Presumably buying a box gets you a discount.
Kamon, I'd be a bit worried about a lightning strike on that big tree covering those colonies in the background.
do you mind sharing the name of the queen supplier? Thanks
It's been 3 weeks since this video. I hope Laurel and Kamon are doing okay...
I HAVE A NEW HIVE GEETING A BOX OF BES WITH QUEEN HOW LONG TO KEEP HER IN HIVE IN CAGE
Where are the queens from Vermont?
Mike Palmer is my guess
What method do you use for introducing queens from your mating nucs into new hives?
I typically use JZBZ cages and if the colony is healthy I just drop the cage in with the candy give them some 1:1 syrup and come back 7+ days later.
Where did you buy Queens this time of year and are they still available?
They are really thirsty
Hey Kamon Where Can I get a 5 frame NUC with bees shipped to Ohio?
I think i already asked you but what does supercedure mean
What do queen suppliers do if the buyer gets half a batch that’s dead on arrival?
Depends on the supplier. The ones I deal with make it right either with new queens or monetarily.
Hello kaymon
I'm a new bee keeper been watching videos, reading books trying to learn as much as I can. Enjoy watching your videos as well. What is the first thing I should be looking for when inspecting my hive. This was a nuc I got about 3 months ago. I have added a couple of supers. Just don't know what I'm supposed to be looking at when inspecting hive any help and advice is appreciated thanks. God bless
Kamon is there a Q&A this week?
Do the carniolan queens better than the Italians or Russian hybrid ?
I meant are the carnies better than the others?
I wouldn't say better as some carnis are not very good. I do prefer their characteristics over italians and russians all things being equal
Roll Tide!!!
Do you sell queen bees
Think I have a hive that needs requeened
I have 6 coming from Lappes on thursday. Splits but 2 hives are requeens. Looking into OTS queen rearing.
@@MinnesotaBeekeeper what breed If ya don't mind me asking. I'm very happy with the carni I got from them.
@@BlanchardsBees I thought I should have included that in the comment, Carniolan. A bit nervous about them being mailed in this heat.
@@MinnesotaBeekeeper hope they turn out well for you.
Kamon you ok haven't seen any new video's lately?
I pray everything is ok with kamon and his family. It’s weird it’s been over theee weeks since we’ve seen him. Where’s the registration for the conference? I believe Kamon and laurel are in over there heads with the experimental yard and they don’t know how to explain to everyone who donated money to them. It’s hard to run something scientific especially when you have no degree or training in how to do them. And then to put it on UA-cam for everyone too see. You have to be right you can’t have all your subscribers believing the wrong thing. I hope I’m wrong and everything is ok with them and we get to see videos on the experimental yard.
What's with that wierd symbol on your shirt?
This weird symbol happens to be the sign of champions! Haha
@@kamonreynolds why did you have to go and spell weird correctly, making me feel bad 😂
Kamon, if those Queens are as fine as that shirt that you had on for filming this video, you will get 300 lbs of honey from those colonies next year and make at least 6 splits off of each colony!ROLL TIDE!!!
The cardinal in the back ground is singing “roll tide!”
