@@LateNightLessons Just keep doing what you want and I know things will go great. I think I enjoy your stuff becuase you think it's worth making a video for. thanks for the reply!!!! and thanks for the late night lessons.
Loved the opener. Early John McLaughlin and the mahavishnu orchestra used dissonant chords all over their music; inner mounting flame, birds of fire, visions of the emerald beyond. Great jazz fusion in its early days.
This lesson brings to mind Steve Vai's "There is Something Dead in Here" - probably the most unsettling/disturbing piece of music I have ever encountered. I will listen again to it for the intervals explored in this lesson!
I haven't met, known or seen anyone who can explain theory on guitar as competently and clearly as you do in your lessons. Thanks for taking the time to create this content. Now it's off to a music store to play some Bach. Muwaahahaha!
If you're familiar with Randy Rhoads' live tones, you know he dramatically changed tone for the Diary tour. I'm convinced he was going after a gothic Toccata and Fugue pipe organ sound to match the stage.
I would love to see a Type O Negative Chord Play, especially during Halloween. I know TON isn't a guitar-driven band, but it would be cool to see your take on the way guitar is used in the context of their song(s). Or even how you might play guitar to complement the song.
Slayer - Seasons of the Abyss is one of the most doom laden riffs I can think of. Also, Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath. All down to the b5 being played in both tracks. You covered both tracks a few weeks ago.
I love that dead piano sounding chord, cool stuff. one of my favorite evil chords that sounds evil anywhere you play it on the neck is when you play all 3 notes of a power chord starting on the a string 9 fret (fsharp) except you rerplace your index finger with your second finger because your index is going on the b string 8 fret, it rings out nicely with the high e string.
Hey David, I watch all of your videos and every single one is excellent, but this one is absolutely exceptional !!! Thanks so much for sharing these chords, discussions, and advice !!!
Great lesson! Here’s a fun little thing to do along the same lines....take that pretty little instrumental intro to Tesla’s “Love Song” and move everything one fret back (toward the nut)...instantly creepy. I used to do that when jamming with my buddies to make them laugh.
Killer and useful lesson. Your picking is excellent as well. It’s funny but by watching your lessons over time, I’ve seen you improve along the way! You’re a true pro dude!
There's definitely some flavors of the Diablo OST and Diary of a Madman in some of these chords- you could do a full Halloween epi on that song alone!. This is a great lesson as always David.
David, I’d love to hear your take on John McLaughlin, who, as another commentator noted, used some seriously weird chords, particularly during his Mahavishnu days (Meeting of the Spirits, etc.). Great content. Thank you.
The pipe organ is my second favorite instrument behind guitar. I actually liked going to church as a kid cuz of all the classical music and the organ 😆.
is that a bobble head? that little Dr. Elvis , he was giving you a node yes when you bumped him , really cool opening, I 'm hearing a Mr. Crowley vibe that I hadn't heard.
Since we are in the Halloween season, I think a Savatage chord play would be cool, especially if you include Hall of the Mountain King. That riff has such cool haunting melody to it!!!
I’ve never heard anyone play stuff from Flex-able .. great record. I wore it out my senior-year in high-school (1988) Great playing. I’m no shredder, but I love to listen to Vai do-it. ☮️
King Diamond plays a few of these chords on Them, Conspiracy and The Eye. Mekong Delta uses these types of eerie chords on varoius intros and songs as well.
Wide intervallic chords are very challenging for those with short fat fingers and even worse if you've got arthritis... like me. So I'm going to set up one of my guitars in the Gambale tuning to try and get those piano-type chords that are nearly impossible on guitar.
You could dim the lights a bit Davey and maybe resemble a wolfman in mid transformation! ...Sorry.. What an awful comment. I love this channel! Brilliant lessons mate. Keep em comin Davey x
The really scary chord you played at 15:00... forget it. I would have to dislocate my fingers to fret that sucker. Plus its dissonance really put my chi out... had to realign my chakras (only kidding).
That's totally right and if you'd like to learn a little more about it, check this episode out ---> And thanks for watching - rock on! ua-cam.com/video/h97ddG_EwrU/v-deo.html

Dave I wish you upload a video about software that can someone use for note to note transcriptions ..Is there a good one? What is your opinion about ear training ?
binging this channel recently. I cant wait too see him pass 500k subs.
Yes! I am surprised he isn't closer to 100k. We have to spread the word. But watch, in six months, he will be over 200k. Great content.

I second the Type O Negative chordplay!
Dave I love it when you're naming these crazy chords. You have such an excellent command of theory. I'm truly jealous. This lesson was astounding.
Thanks! The guitar work in many of the Spaghetti Westerns featured these chords.
Glad to hear you mention Buckethead.
Great stuff!! Thanks David.

EXCELLENT DAVID !
Sick new Buckethead art hanging on the wall!
Dissonance is king. I always try to find the odd chords. My brother always said I liked playing movie music. LOL
"movie music" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, movie music can really get way out there because they are fitting an image and not trying rock per se.

Uhhh ... David ... I like to buy a vowel ... great lesson !!! The theme song to the old horror film Phantasm is holiday favorite ...
Sampled by Entombed in Left Hand Path
I have the Phantasm soundtrack on CD!

Type O was incredible, and i loved Kenny's guitar parts.
Always enhanced the song in creative ways.

I'm hearing a lot of Diary of a Madman on this video. Love your content, sir.
Half of the chords he demonstrated are in the song lmao
CandleMass did a great version of Marche Funebre. Great insight & lesson 🍺’ski.
I like the end Dmaj hammer on, too cool.
Bach's fugue sounded GREAT on guitar! Congrats on picking this theme!
Type O Negative or Misfits Chordplay for Halloween!
Samhain, too!
Great lesson very interesting and spooky👍🎃
Slayer - Seasons of the Abyss is one of the most doom laden riffs I can think of.
Also, Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath.

Awesome!!!
What a great lesson Dave. Now I have to spend a little less time with grandma and my cats... All is good , I'll make it up to them . 👍
very very cool lesson :) thank U David

When you said 'Bach piece' I instantly said aloud 'It's like a Mach piece, really' to myself.

Great lesson. This will definitely enhance my chord choices
Toccata and fugue in D minor by Johann Sebastian Bach.
The first metal band I was in used it as in intro to one of our songs.
Real cool content David 😎
Pretty Cool Episode!! Absolutely amazing!
A good example where a maj 7 chord sounds a little spooky is in the theme from Stranger Things.
Killer and useful lesson. Your picking is excellent as well. It’s funny but by watching your lessons over time, I’ve seen you improve along the way! You’re a true pro dude!
You're getting into Ron Jarzombek territory!!!!
I've just been binging on Watchtower's "Demonstrations in Chaos" (Demos & Extras) & Watchtower's 2016 EP "Concepts of Math: Book One."
Blotted Science is awesome!!!
Great lesson.....I've heard the James Bond chord forever...first time I've seen it lol.
Ken Wheeler. Then Guitarus Nerdicus. The best Sunday evening ever.
Thanks for learning those 2 chords. Reminds me of "Birds of Fire" - Mahavishnu Orchestra
There's definitely some flavors of the Diablo OST and Diary of a Madman in some of these chords- you could do a full Halloween epi on that song alone!. This is a great lesson as always David.
Dude! You bloody rule .. so glad that i (UA-cam algorithms) found you.

Lover your channel. Please do the chord play or guitar licks of periphery.
Mikael Akerfeldt approves this lesson.
Cool lesson!
The chord at 16:34, is the Chili Peppers, when he sings: I don't wanna ever feel, like
i did that day...
King Diamond plays a few of these chords on Them, Conspiracy and The Eye. Mekong Delta uses these types of eerie chords on varoius intros and songs as well.
Good lesson thank you
Good video. It was cool to see and hear those chords. Time to write a horror screenplay. Lol. Happy Halloween!
You gotta love guitar straps lol :)
Playing it slower I hear a bit of the opening from Final Countdown from Europe. in the Bach piece
Great lesson. Try to squeeze out Chords of Opeth before Halloween!
This might as well have been an Opeth tut!

Pretty sure I just listened to an Opeth album
We need a chords of danzig lesson for those halloween vibes
That is a knockout idea.
I know you already did Alice In Chains, but you could basically do a whole Halloween episode with just Alice In Chains songs. Haha.
👻
Greg Lake threw in these types of chords often: Still…, From the Beginning, C’est la Vie, to name a few.
David ... There are things you can buy at an auto parts store to slip onto that seatbelt strap to keep it from slipping all the time....lol
You probably already know this but John Williams' Sky did a fine version of Toccata (showing my age now)!
