This film really understood Batman as a character, same way Spider-Man 2 (2004) understood Spider-Man. Batman - Mask of the Phantasm is one of the best superhero films of all time.
It captures just how broken Bruce Wayne is, and the darkness he embraces to cope with his pain. Batman is pain and loss and grief turned into iron will and vengeance. No other adaptation has done that as well.

And the Symbolism of "The World of the Future". How in his and Andreas happiest days its bright and beautiful. In present time, it is a barely working pile of rubble, just like Bruce and Andreas relationship. By the end of the movie, the "World of tomorrow" gets blown into Oblivion, along with any salvaging of Bruce and Andreas relationship... And the cause of all this Chaos? The Clown Prince of Crime laughing his ass off as he understood the punchline of the Joke, that he had taken everything away from Batman that could ever bring him happiness. (This universe was inspired by Batman 89, so I like to think that Joker of this universe also gets Bats parents.) This movie is Brilliant.

As a character study of Bruce Wayne, it is excellent: as a specimen of voice acting and dialogue, it is painful. I think your feelings for the music are speaking for you here. The Nolan trilogy is excellent craftsmanship, even if its Batman was girl-obsessed and pathetic (except when taking out the baddies: Balebat is the best tactical batman interpretation out there). Having perspective on the Nolan trilogy won't make MOTP any less a work of art.

I've seen Batman: Mask of the Phantasm in the theater during the Christmas it was released, and I still love it to this day. The tone, the music, the voice acting, the animation. It still all holds up 26 years later.

So many layers and emotions in this. It is the perfect song depicting Bruce's dilemma of devout purpose and duty to protect Gotham, yet it's equally mirrored with his misery, guilt, failure, and pain of both wanting to make his parents proud but also to settle down with woman and live a normal life. Perhaps one of the best themes of Batman and Gotham.
To quote Lex Luther, “Even the greatest of us can’t compete with time, and death.“ and apparently disease. One of the greatest dark nights of all time has fallen, he may be gone but he will be far from forgotten. The soundtrack is by far one of my favorite film scores of all time. It's majestic and heart pounding. This movie was a huge step up from the animated series, and while there's more to offer from it, but this film showed the utter passion of Batman. Just how serious they took the franchise. The directing,acting,and writing was solid enough, but without Shirley Walker's incredible composing, it wouldn't be called the "Greatest Batman movie ever" by some people.
Sitting home from work all day on an injury and have been able to sit with my daughter and watch a lot of Batman. Saw this film for the first time and was blown away by this theme in the beginning. The vocals paired with the visuals of the buildings in the night touch something i cant fully articulate. Batman will always be the coolest hero--distinguished above and beyond all others--and this generation of movies and tv shows were incredible.
Cursed by a mask born of tragedy, and embracing it to save the world. That is what this theme says to me. This *is* Batman. Rest in peace, Kevin Conroy.

The directing,acting,and writing was solid enough, but without Shirley Walker's incredible composing, it wouldn't be called the "Greatest Batman movie ever" by some people.

Sitting home from work all day on an injury and have been able to sit with my daughter and watch a lot of Batman.
Saw this film for the first time and was blown away by this theme in the beginning. The vocals paired with the visuals of the buildings in the night touch something i cant fully articulate.
Batman will always be the coolest hero--distinguished above and beyond all others--and this generation of movies and tv shows were incredible.
