Riv nuts can be hard. When they work they are great.
Absolutely. I suspect this was the wrong application for this, though I can see their utility in the future!
Harbor freight has a great rivnut tool under the doyle brand. Mine great been using them all over my build.

Better bolts might last a bit longer, though the rivnuts just can't seem to grip well enough. Not to worry though!
@@CozyLivingMachine Eternabond the heck out of everything, maybe? (As long as zero silicone products are underneath it, because Eternabond does not stay stuck to that.) I just wanted you to have your solar array finished prior to your trip, darnit.

not quite, if only because that would be pretty dang expensive and maybe heavy. however, they use them in certain solar farms!

I am very impressed with your courage to just learn as you go, especially those RivNuts. Wood fabrication is something you can mess up and just rip out and start over, but those RivNuts are different. You can create bigger problems if you make a mistake yet you keep on going boldly! You are one step closer and it looks more and more promising! Keep up the good work.
Thanks!! Learning a lot on the go and many "what not to dos!" I tend to find I'm most satisfied with the simplest options as you'll see tomorrow!
I think the rib nut go under the rails. It looks to me like you are using them like rivets
that is correct, they go under the rails and secure into the skin of the bus.

You would get easier results for cutting if you bought a dewalt cordless circular saw
We tried that but it didn't go well for us. Terrible battery performance and the blades would get caught quite frequently. We may do a corded version in the future for more power, we'll see
