The drummer's facial expression the entire time is priceless. Like he's not even trying. I am playing this song for my high school jazz band, but we don't have full instrumentation so it does not sound nearly this good. Amazing performance.
For a second I didn’t realize that Paul Panichi was on lead trumpet. My self confidence was drastically lowered for a second when I thought there was a high schooler that could play that lead part so easily.
After looking for a good cover solo on tenor saxophone for 30 minutes, this was the one i liked the most. Nice to see young guys playing to an excellent level.. this was 10 years ago, those kids must really be killing now!
For spec in Australia they hold auditions for these bands just for this performance, there is various other ensembles like a massive choir and orchestra
That first trombone is insane
Yeah, his range is incredible
Eh, that high f isn’t too difficult if you’re able to gliss up to it like chart calls for

@@alexz_pumathere’s an F in there. If you look at the official score online there is one if you go up an octave, it’s near the beginning

look so much alike the drummer s face in whipsplash
It's so funny he's just maintaining eye contact with the conductor
The guitarist right below him has so much facial expression it's the funniest comparison
Alex Hirlian, phenomenal sydney based Jazz drummer
He was thinking about his grocery list while playing.
That whole trombone section is outrageous

I would not be happy if someone my age would have range almost an octave above mine. Thank you for saying this

drummers not even trying, he plays it like a fucking god and his facial expression is just him thinking about what he wants for dinner.

It's a thing here in australia that gets school kids from all around the country. There's music, dance poetry etc. basically just a big performance.
