I'm surprised the basketball wasn't filled with meat.
They use the basketball because of the density and resistance it can give due to the properties of compressed air.
Anyone who has been hit in a soft area but either a football or basketball will know it hurts.
Using one for this test shows how sharp their swords are, filling it with meat would require them to cut it open and thus weakening its structural integrity.
Still surprised.
The bamboo pole, too. I thought for sure they'd have stuffed some meat into that. For, I don't know, reasons...
@@DarkLordDiablos there is always this guy
@@DarkLordDiablos it's a joke bro
Now *this* is a knife.
Technically it is my lord!
@@pvtspartan actually it is gross messer means big knife
@@thebasedspectre3048
That's what I said lol
I'm always amazed how skillfully those two handle the blades.
skillfull? they're just hacking as hard as they can. you should go read up some martial arts bro. maybe you'll find people with real skill
JsinXx I think Vultar666 was being sarcastic.
I'm always surprised at the fact that these fuckers work at/own a sword company and are the equivalent of Dark Souls noobs.
@@amishtechwizard5540 They're basically swinging the swords like baseball bats
The Grosse Messer actually has a marital arts style all its own. I've seen books. And if your use it right, you let the weight of the sword do the work, you just control where it goes. I own one, and love it.
The perfect peasant's weapon. Who needs a Katana when you can have this? Katanas were mostly used to cut down unarmed peasants anyway. Maybe if they had this to defend themselves things would have been different.
Most armies used spears and bows, actually, so the peasant would be surrounded in a sea of arrows and naginatas.
the real perfect peasants weapon is likely the spear or quarterstaff, as they ensure safety at distance while being able to kill people
or, in the case of the Sengoku Jidai, an arquebuss, for obvious reasons
It looks better than the katana too
Out of all your swords this is my favorite.
Dang, ole Robert really did some serious cutting in this video. Good job, brother. Gotta love Lynn's enthusiasm. Can't say Cold Steel Cutlery isn't tough.
Robert is a legend. Salute him
The boot and the bend sold me those are some impressive tests and results 👏 I love my messer it's a beast thanks cold steel
Own it and love it...and is honestly the most terrifying piece of steel hanging on my wall. It out-cuts everything I own. A bit heavy, but damn, will it make mince meat out of anything put in front of it!
Hello, I was think about this sword myself, but every review says its semi-dull and doesn't really cut. Did yours come sharp or did you sharpen it?
Captain Harlock oh mine is plenty sharp
Mine came razor-sharp and I love it.
What the hell do you use it for? This isn’t the Middle Ages.
@@adamcochran7950 I use mine as a large kitchen knife it's nice and slicy lol.
I want one of these, badly. Will purchase one sometime next year. Great job on all of your stuff, I can't get enough of your products.
Love this and your heavy saber
these guys love thier work for sure!
I just ordered one of your catalogs using the link in the description thnk you for all the great products
Ok... Ive been in martial arts along time now, I am sitting here stunned by this video... Keep it up Coldsteel Outstanding job!
Damn, this was a great review, especially with the bending part. All your other videos should be as thorough.
My next Cold Steel purchase. Great products.
This is the one that I've wanted for years and years excellent sword cold steel
awesome job
And these guys have the best job ever....
thank you for replying i went to my local knife shop and i saw they carry the cold steel grosse messer and i got to hold it and it felt good in hand and it wouldnt break easily at all ill be be getting this in a couple of mounths thanks
I got this sword a few years ago and i must say, i absolutely love it. The wood handle feel amazing in my hands and its considerably lighter then i thought. In fact, the only real complaint i have is that the sheath does not come with any sort of device so that would allow you to strap the sword to a belt. But, that's not a huge deal, considering could probably make one easily enough.
it should be "Grosses Messer" or better "Großes Messer"
Greetings from Germany :)
too right.having the videos is proof of the swords' durability, and one of the main influences on making an informed choice.Well you'll be pleased to hear that i purchased the messer off you today.Damned fine sword.Keep doing what you're doing !
I own this product, and it is incredibly well made. The edge is shaving-sharp out of the box, and has mirror finish as well as a solid handle and nice balance. The size and width of the blade is staggering, and is like a Katana on steroids. This sword is a beast of a weapon. This is probably in the top 5 most fearsome single-edged weapons that are available.
Fearsome overhead swing you got there.
I think this is my new favourite cutting sword.
Those people have a fun job!
@MadPyrotechnicus There are several reasons it bends that far; the fact that the bending is balanced throughout the entire length of the blade and not focused on a single point as well as the fact that type of steel used (1055 carbon steel) is a medium to high carbon steel (.50-.60 carbon content, steels with .60 carbon content are generally used in springs) so it has the right strength to ductility balance to bend without deforming.
Robert is a monster with bladed weapons!
For months I've been bullied by a group of cardboard villains.
Not anymore, though, now that I've got a großes Messer!
Thanks Cold Steel for making our lives safer!
THAT IS AN AWSOME SWORD,I WANT IT
I want one of these!
looks like a badass sword
Even though it's on the heavy side, I'm glad you guys have made a reproduction of a two-handed messer sword. The one I received has the blade slightly bent about 2-4 degrees to the left. I've joked with my friends that I received the original blade that was bent to show the durability of the heat treated blade. Guess I have the tried and true version, eh?
best sword I ever seen!
Grosse Messer is one of bests swords.
Thanks for answering. It was just something I was curious about. Going into the Military soon, but when I get out I intend on starting a collection of various melee weapons starting with Cold Steel products. :)
Damn, that's one amazing sword! I kind of wish there was a vid of a Khopesh like this one (although surely, a chop blade won't be as amazing).
I like it, never heard of it but its awesome kinda like a cross between a katana, longsword handle, and a large broad tip.:)
This thing is badass. I'm getting it.
@lockbreak12 also, though I'm no expert, I always assumed that a curved blade concentrates more of the force of the swing on a shorter section of the blade, which translates to greater cutting force.
I hope I explained it well enough too.
I'm gonna get a few cold steel swords for my collection I think. Would you guys have any reccomendations for your best ones within the $50-100 range?
this work is very similar to the work of sabers. I saw such fencing on "carabels" among the Poles -
Also, was the sword used in the video the same one all the way through?
If so I'll take one of those as well! what I've got so far is mostly decorative, and I want a few for actual use.
Im wondering if they're going to give to the Ventura Mission also the meat that was inside the shoes.
i have a few questions, on my sword it came a little dull and the guard has become a bit loose can i send it in to coldsteel to get both of those taken care of and can i also buy an extra scabbard? and how would one go about carrying a sword such as this?
dear cold steel i absoulutly love your knives i am 15 and collect your knifes and i plan on saving up some money and getting the grosse messer but when i looked on amazon people said when they used it to cut bottles the tang snaped in half and it came dull is that true or did they just grt lemons please respond fast as u can and keep on making awesome knives thanks
What do you guys think? Is this the best cutting sword by Cold Steel? Seems awesome.
Can you make a left handed version of this, so the guard works with the left hand?
On the Grosse Messer, what is the ring on the guard for above the hand grip?
so, vs the grosseS messer, how do you think the seax holds up? this is an opinion thing, and any input would be welcome
haven't bought a sword yet, and i am looking for something that might complement a hand axe or hatchet as a main hand weapon. and yet still be functional for a coup de grace during hunting, as i will be using a bow and would like a weapon to be completely functional for this.
I think I'm in love.
The boot with the meat left a big statement.
I got this sword and i am happy that i bought it as my first sword.
@Damienx247 Not really. The Chinese war sword went through a chunk of beef in one swing. This thing took four swings.
I love cold steel and I think I'm gonna buy myself o e of these for xmas
I see you have a side-ring instead of a nagel. Would it be availible with a nagel?
@ringsgold
That would be the messer and langenmesser, not the Großes Messer. (The first two are single-handers, but the third one is usually a two-hander.)
Any of you still prefer a katana??
B*tch please!!
I do but only because I'm an anime fan and some of my favourite characters use katanas.
Jowen Dyer A Katana is a two handed sabre at the end of the day
Katanas are the most overrated swords in sword history.
jam1148 True but let's be fair. They are good swords that get the job done.
Though I agree completely that the overhyping is annoying.
I like the katana better
Hey Cold Steel I know you are very busy but I would like to know which of your swords have the best cutting power. I'm seriously considering between these swords, Warrior Katana, Chinese 2 Handed Sword, Gross Messer, and European Longswords or Hand Half Sword. I want a strong durable sword that will cut well. I heard the cross guards near the hilt can loosen so that makes me uneasy.
Lord Zachael hand and a half or gross messer probably for cutting, long sword has a lot of stabbing power
@Bjo15 Following through generally means that you keep going after the stuff is cut. As for the guy's body following the sword I'm pretty sure it has less to do with his strength and more to do with his inexperience with blades compared to the other demonstrators.
Cold Steel is the best. best PRODUCTS, best ADVERTISING, best PRICE, and made in the USA.
Hi i am from Switzerland i buy your Grosse messer from a reseller from you. after few duels and demostration. things start to get shacking i kontakt the reseller he said i have to send it back to him for inspecktion. To send it back it will cost me over 120 $. So i decide to fix it to my self and i did with some welding and epoxi. So after all i have to say your grosse messer is good but not that good as you put it on this video. You can not do those kind of things everytime without getting some damage to the sword. So to all people out thier just inspeckt your sword everytime you use it. So you dont injure your self. Thx and have a nice time using your Grosse Messer.
I like their videos, but when it comes to their products, I'm really skeptical, since their quality control sucks. My Shamshir came with an oblique crossguard, protrusions and decoloration etc. and I've seen sellers that warn that CS has too many rattly guards that they can't even check themselves and sort out, since that would be too costly sending all those blowouts back. There are also plenty of videos of CS blades breaking or getting seriously notched. Moreover, when it comes to fittings and especially handling, other manufacturers are simply far better.
If we wanted to get a certain design or engraved message, word number etc. would that be possible?
Dam that's so bad ass, I want one
@GigaHands
If you pause it and jump to 3:48, you get a really good still of the severed pig. I'm pretty sure I can make out the ribs and vertebrae in that shot, but even at 720p the resolution is a little grainy for me to say I'm 100% sure.
The "tough guy" poses and looks after each cut are priceless
Hey, just wondering, what did he say about the messer vs eastern swords? Equal of plone? Plome? What does thet mean?
Might I suggest making the Langes Messer as well as a fully functional version of the Medieval Training Waister Sword? I would very much like to see these blades in action.
@Pepe87ms it's actually robert vaughn :) but do u know what happened or is up with his eye ?
@AAGuitar123 I truly hope that was meant as just a joke, not an attack on the video; this is a technical demonstration, and those tests all show things about the sword's durability, maneuverability, and cutting power. Also, FYI to everyone, a pig carcass is the closest natural analogue to a human body readily available without getting medical cadavers. Their equivalent mass, bone density and flesh consistency means a sword's impact will have a similar effect if used on a person.
Brutal!
@antagonist42 Watch the video again, the war sword took four swings as well to cut the beef ribs.
I'm not that familiar with Metallurgy and other things, but can someone explain me why the steel blade isn't as crooked as a walking cane after it's been bended for about 60°?
@cpu46 Thank you, Sir, for your expertise!
These are the most addicting videos on UA-cam...
I gotta buy this
I was thinking of buying one of their swords. Should it be the grosse messer or the Chinese sword breaker?
Have you guys ever considered making a Cold Steel Scottish Claymore. I'd love to see one of those.
2:21 I love the part where he cuts those bins a bit low and shaves off some of the wood plank underneath.
@allshallbelosttoyou there is a lot to consider.. like the length the curve and handle.. of course if it's one or two handed counts a lot too.. but still you can have the worlds most durable and sharpest warblade and can't cut a mere plasticbottle half.. on the other you can have cheap pocket knife and get it through steel plate (if the knife itself can handle it without breaking).. so the way of effective cutting is only a matter of technique and how well can you handle your blade.
Do the blades come this sharp? If not, what method of sharpening do you guys use?
Is the back edge sharpened too? Otherwise I no likey. Still impressive though.
Unrelated to the awesome weapon but what's the song in the background?
This thing has the most incredible cutting power! look at those TWO giant garbage bins!
What kind of rope do you guys use for cutting tests?
Do you do custom jobs? If not, is there anyone you recommend?
habt ihr auch das "Noch Grössere Messer" ?
@SweStuff94 Sharpness depends on... you guessed it, sharpening! So if a grosse Messer is made out of quality steel and is well sharpened by a skilled specialist, it will cut very well. European Longswords were generally less sharp than katanas, because they were designed to be swinged at armoured opponents (among others), which would quickly dull the blade anyway. Many longsword techniques involved gripping one's own sword's blade (through gloves of course) as well.
I'm EDC'ing Cold Steel for a couple years now, none of their products ever let me down. Even though they blew out a couple weird, totally useless weapons, anything with a Cold Steel brand on it i definitely top notch high quality stuff.
@RyanB2112 I think that pig, however, had most of its bones removed. Take a close look.
The world record rope cut at the end of this video, is that still current and are their other swords you make that can do the same cut as easily? I'd guess the Chinese War Sword and the Katana could do it. Perhaps the Great Sword, European Longswords and your Hand Half Swords when used in 2 hands. Always wondered which are best for sheer cutting power. Great videos btw!
why do you use 1055 as opposed to other sword makers who use spring steels etc? is 1055 the best? i like the messer.hmm i think i might get that if you can tell me that the sword on the video came out of those tests unscathed.
@csknives Have any openings in your accounting department? I'd love to work for your company!
@farkasfruit This one is my favorite and suprisingly it's one of the cheapest. It's $299 which is the same price as one of those companion daggers.
@smartacus88 how does it psychologicly effect on dead pig or cow or cardbord or tatami mat
Buying one.
@TheBeyondBeast
What if you are attacked by a person wearing boots?
Wouldn't you rather have this then you're bare hands?
I take it the same is true with every product demonstration video?
It's "aplomb." Aplomb means self-confidence or assurance, i.e. "to do something with aplomb" means to do it very well. He's basically saying it can cut equally well as an Eastern sword.
