The energy, unique sound, & Tims voice grabbed my attention the first time I saw a TV show on a small satellite outside your front door, cable channel one night, at 1:00 in the morning in 79, I was hooked for life! Love this Peter! ❤
My friends and I loved Split Enz right from the first time we saw them live at Festival Hall on Anzac Day 1975, opening for Skyhooks and AC/DC. Others were booing them but we were applauding them loudly! They were weird and whacky and their music was amazing!
@@stew23 I can confirm as a 13 year old in 1975 on May school holidays in Sydney from Boarding school I watched this Countdown episode. The Enz debut performance of Maybe is etched in my brain musically and visually and still my all time favourite Split Enz 45 tune 🤠👍🎸
I hate 'prog-rock' but this was progressive music with taste and elegance. Sharp and angular (instead of the usual prog bloated and fatuous), the whole Phil Judd/Tim Finn era was so far ahead of the pack.

Par excellence! 'Beginning of the Enz' ... a fine album to bother with.
Really really really good! Great to see the guys rocking out - tell the people, this needs more views.
Not just fun, but brilliant.
when do we get to see "Maybe" in colour from the same show??
do you know what date this one was in 1975?
sadly not marked on my tape.. was originally taken from the umatic -no date
well that's ok, good see they were actually on in 1975. How didn't this get on Classic Countdown?!?!
countdown/abc dont have it, original tape was one of thousands destroyed. very few episodes exist.
I think this might have been 11th May 1975. That's what I have anyway.
