Thank you for your generously detailed video. I have been sewing since the age of 5 and started on a cast iron, hand crank Singer (still have it), moved on to a 1904 Singer tredle with Pheasant head, then an electric Singer featherweight, a Kenmore, a Bernina and now a Brother sewing machine. But...I had no idea how to do maintenance on these new, computerized machines. My Brother machine started making a horrific "knocking" sound. Every time I tried to sew, my Spouse complained that the noise was unbearable. I watched your video and felt at least 10 IQ points smarter. No more knocking noise and you 100% probably saved my marriage. You rock! Thank you again.

Even I know a lot of sewing and most of the things you show, I always learn something new. Your explanations are calm, you show step by step so even beginners can learn from it. No music which would make it hard to listen. The videos are so helpful and you can clearly see everything. Recently bought a machine just before lockdown started here. Unable to take up offer of a couple of free lessons the store were running for novices. They recommended your site. Found your site so informative to understand as a complete novice and gave me the confidence to push myself a bit. After numerous novice errors and cotton and lint everywhere this was helpful. Back to a clean machine and now back to the face mask and scrubs bags production line. Big thanks on behalf of all us novices out here.

Thank you for this video! I inherited my grandmother's sewing machine and have been using it, but I really didn't know much about the maintenance. I just equated the squeaks and knotted threads to the age of the machine (it's about 40 years old) and thought it was just something I had to deal with. After seeing this I plan on buying some new needles and sewing machine oil and giving it a thorough cleaning!

Awesome!! I regularily clean the fuzzies out of my machine. but desperately needed to learn where to use machine oil. Thank you. very easy to follow, clear and concise instructions. Plus! Now I also know how to minimize the bobbin birds nests. I didn't realize that having 4-5" of threads pulled to the back would minimize those, so I will make sure of that from now on. Thank you for this simple video on basic sewing machine maintenance. It has saved me so much frustration and money. It is amazing how cleaning the lint out, changing the needle or simply rethreading the machine can fix most problems I've had. Before I'd get so frustrated. I was afraid to trust myself with trying to fix problems so I'd take it to a repair guy. He charged me a lot of money and all he probably did was clean or oil the machine. Again, my sincere thanks for giving me the necessary skills. I actually enjoy cleaning up my machine and taking care of it.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I ran across your video, after purchasing a new HD machine, in route. I am making masks and was having a lot of issues. Just followed your instructions on my Kenmore 385 and it is like new. I am able to see through 10 layers of 809 Craft Interfacing. Stitches are perfect. I found a blob of lint under the Bobbin holder, I adjusted the bobbin case a little and used oil for the first time. Thanks again.😇

I'm a new subscriber. So excited to learn from you. I've been watching your older videos to get started. My husband and daughter brought me a sewing machine for my birthday and I only know how to sew by hand.

@@TockCustom I have an XR3340, and it doesn't look like there is anything I can safely get at. Does it need to go in for a routine maintenance? It's working fine.

    Thank you for this!
My first step is to rewind my bobbin - my most common issue is thread loops on the bottom of my work. I know that should be top thread tension, but for me that fixes it 85% of the time (I may have to try adjusting my bobbin tension to see if that helps.) That being said, I just de-linted my bobbin area for the first time on my machine that I've had for 20 years. I pulled a ridiculous amount of lint out of it! 😳 Don't wait, clean it out!
