    You will not be disappointed with this car. Have owned 3 of them drove them all over the USA and Europe
    Still have the 1994 XJ6.
    Which we fitted a low mileage 1990 motor in it . No Problems.
    Can not wait to have the winter gone here in Minnesota.
    Just drove my 1974 XJ6 L today at pretty sunshine and above freezing.
    Keep driving them

    Beautiful interior. Prices are set to rise on these XJ 40 models. Well worth an investment. Such a great classic design. Will be interesting to see the rust tackled.

    I have daily'd my '89 XJ40 on NZ roads for around 6 years and its been the most reliable car I've owned. Its not economical, never bought it for that but I've never enjoyed a car as much as my XJ.

      @@NZotyoka81 no they are not. Keep in mind those sagging headliners are usually over 25 years old.
      Re cover them and they are good for other 25 years.

    I have driven XJ40 and XJ81 cars for years. I really like them too. I just recently purchased two more of them for $600 each. Both obviously in need of some work however the first one I bought was a nice running car that I drove back home to NE Ohio from where I purchased it in Long Island NY. It even came with four nearly new tires and a trunk load of spare parts.

      Fine, i drive a xj 81 majestic in Germany for one year. Only the front wings has to be replaced because rust at well known place. It is a surprise for me to drive this 6.0 litres with 15,9 Liter per 100 km. And come slowly more down. An excellent car. My wife loves it. Sometimes people on parking talk to me about it and enjoy it with. It's curious for me but very nice. I wish all much fun with his xj 40 types.

    I've always viewed the XJ40 as the first "modern Jag". It had significant advancements than previous generations and the styling looked contemporary for the time. It was also my first introduction to Jaguar cars.... and have continually owned them ever since.

    I drove a 1988 XJ6 for 12 years and I loved it, especially on long trips (trips over 700 miles one way). In 12 years it needed an alternator, and a fuel pump and eventually, the A/C blend door failed.

    I was born in Coventry in 1964 the birthplace of Jaguar. Some of my uncles worked a the jag factory, but back then in the 60's and 70's you could walk out of one car factory cross the road and get a job in another because Coventry was the home to many makes. I always thought that Someone owning a Jag when I was a kid must be very important because they were so highly acclaimed and beautiful with great engines and guess what, they still are.       @@flodurpups9846 Hi the XJ6 is the best shape jag in my view with the double light curves stretching back into the bonnet, Does it make that distinctive ringing noise when you start it up. I could recognise an xj6 starting up from a mile away with that sound, lol, although my favourite Jaguar engine is the V12 one of the best engines ever made.. I hope you enjoyed restoring it because its a beautiful classic.

      @@flodurpups9846 The best is the MK2 S type because it still looks like a proper solid jag but the ones from 1999-2007 look a mess to me They look like they are a mix of many models but not Jaguars and the grill looks naff. "just my point of view"

    Well from what I know the xj40 is underrated because people dislike the fact that the shape changed into a box shape and dislike the fact that the lines don't flow into the headlights like the x300 or x308. But obviously that's not the case for the daimler ... I personally love the xj40 but I would get it in the daimler spec because that's just lovely

      Especially in Germany. They didn't see the worth of it. They only look at the smooth and soft rounded chassis. The quardro chassis is not the favorite in Germany. Haha. Good times to find more excellent cars here.

    I had a 94 3.2 "Gold" in exactly the same colour. Looked after it and maintained it myself, all but the cylinder head gasket failure which was done under warranty.
    They always seem to blow head gaskets at around 100,000 miles (160,000km) and always second-to-rear cylinder - a quirk which the AJ6 seemed to carry over from the XK.
    And when it does go - which mine did at 70mph on a motorway - the plume of white smoke has to be seen to be believed! It was like when James Bond escapes the villains by blowing a massive wall of smoke.
    After a HG failure, you ALWAYS must get the head skimmed, as it warps instantly.
    You will always get a puff of blue oil smoke when starting from cold, as the slanted engine lets oil pool around the exhaust valve stems and it leaks down into the cylinders.
    The oil pressure gauge always reads low in early cars - later on they replaced it with a simple switch which if it detects pressure goes straight to the mid-point.
    Mine was somewhat complicated when I rebuilt the rear suspension by having the X300 rear axle as mine was one of the last XJ40's off the line and a run-out car.
    Thus replacing the shocks and springs wasn't as simple as the XJ40 as the units had to be removed whole using spring compressors rather than being dismantled.
    The AJ6 is basically bomb proof below the cylinder head, and cracked blocks got left behind with the XK.
    Look after it yourself and it can be really economical to run... With the sole exception of the fuel consumption, which did for me in mine. 19mpg around town and an absolute best on a long motorway journey of 26mpg.
    When I first bought it, fuel cost me £26 a week. By the time I had to say goodbye it had gone up to £60 a week, a result of fuel price increases between 2002 and 2006.
    I miss it still.
    An interesting anomaly with the colour - Jaguar thought it was a shade of blue!
    Watch the ignition keys - only Jaguar dealers can replace them, using the chassis number so it's tailored to the lock barrel of your car.
    And if you do get a new one, it will get stuck in your worn lock barrel and refuse to come out until the key wears in as well.
    Rust spots you probably already know about - inner wing around the damper mount on mine, and the metal plate holding the rear number plate light...
    Take it off every year, strip off the rust, prime it and hammerite it. Otherwise it will rust through and take the lip of your bootlid with it.
    Jag-lovers was my go-to site for maintaining it... The advice about removing a stuck front wishbone bush saved my bacon... And Roger Bywater's excellent site gives a lot of good background.
    Enjoy her, there's too few of them left.

    I've never owned a Jag and I am shopping for one. Incidentally, I fell upon an 1989 XJ6 sovereign with pretty low mileage, owned by a collector who used to commute twice a year between Florida and Ontario. I wasn't too keen on the XJ40, but then I started to read about it and to watch videos and started to like it very much. I hope to get this one pretty soon. ;-)
    Looking forward to it: a vintage Jag (1989-2008) is on my bucket list, as I always wanted to own one since I was a kid.

    When I was retired from my job in 1996 I cheered myself up by buying a 3-year-old Jaguar Sovereign 4 Litre in silver. What a lovely car- so smooth, quiet and with a ride that was more like glide. However, the service manager at my local dealer used to rub his hands with glee when I turned up to get a problem. The windscreen wiper packed once when I was driving down the M4 motorway to Bristol in the pouring rain. The Bristol dealer could not fix it that day but fortunately the rain had stopped for the return journey. A bigger problem was a blown head gasket, not uncommon with the 4 litre engine reportedly - I shelled out GBP2000 (about $3000 at the time) to get that fixed. A chance came to buy a holiday property so the Jag had to go and I down-sized physically and financially to a Mark 2 Golf GTI, which was also a very good car in its genre. I had an X-Type a few years later which just was not in the same class as the Sov - I still miss it but it is just too big for current UK roads and my needs.

      I miss my 03 S-type 3.0 too. Never liked the service bills but somehow i have always ended up forgiving these things to the car. I had to sell it but I promised to myself i will get another one as i will be able to buy and keeping it up. Currently I don’t drive because I don’t need to to get from a to b. The other reason is Jaguar or nothing! I rather taking a bus than buying anything else. It’s a kind of addiction what will never disappear once you got into it.

    I've always like these. Nearly bought a Jaguar 3.6 about 18 years ago in Auckland, New Zealand. All I looked at even then had a bit of rust. Although they don't salt the roads, it rains a lot, it's damp in the winter, and it's humid all year round. The 3.6 was also known for oil leaks.
    I stiil want one. You sit quite low and cocooned, and very comfy. I remember the cockpit feeling quite sporty as well as luxurious.
    A really nice, low mileage example just sold at auction in the UK for 10,600 pounds. A strong price, but I think the car justified it.
    This one looks as if it can be sorted out without major expense, and considering it has lived its life in Sweden and has done more than 200,000 kms, it's in good condition. With everything done and a mop polish, it should look like a million dollars.
    I think the 4 litre or the 3.2 are the way to go. More sorted, a bit more power, and I think the later cars are better built.
    I agree that the interiors are better than the later cars. And if I can get a really nice one at some point, I think I'd rather have an XJ40 over and X300. While the X300 is more traditional looking at the front, I think the XJ40 design as a whole is more cohesive, and I much prefer the rear end.
    I also think these represent good value for money. Much cheaper than a Bentley from the period, both to buy, run, and maintain. From a prestige point of view, the problem is that most are in the hands of people that don't have an abundance of cash, and many are kept outside, so most don't look at their best. In the future, I expect that only thee best will survive, and they will become more appreciated.

    Hi Adam, Great video again. Your Daimler is a lovely car and it's hard to hide your delight when you drive it. I'm the same with my 1990 4.0litre. As for the looks I agree with you, these cars as far as looks go are aging very well. I have had mine for 18 years it has 160klms on the clock. Obviously it is very old now but it certainly attracts a lot of attention from younger people. Mine has metric ,run flat tires with tear drop wheels which I intend keeping despite the price of replacement.

    These are best from 1992 until the end of production in 1994. Ford had finally nailed the build quality and they are built like a tank with aircraft grade electrics. I had a 1994 Daimler 4.0 that was totally rust free and drove superbly,.

    When I lived in England I worked a a Jaguar restoration/Service shop the XJ40 was the bane of our lives so many complex items that took forever to sort, one of it's failings was the rear diff, I did so many of these I could take out the old one and put in a new one in less than 2 hours :)

      The repair needs only two hours with a new seal and new differential oil. It cost only the times, oil and 20 euros for the seal. No drop of oil more. Xj 81 majestic in Germany.

    Many years ago I had an XJ40 Sovereign (1988) lovely wafty thing with the self levelling (Citroen style) rear suspension. It did rust quite prodigiously though.

    I love your channel & your passion for Jag's . . . My dad has owned a number of them and we are looking for a nice xj6 series II at the moment.
    A quick and easy temporary fix for the headliner is twisty pins, they are curly so when you wind them into the backing they stay in place . . . Used them on my numerous e39's as a part time / permanent fix . . .lol . . .Thanks again for your magic channel, loving it !!

    Bro I got one of these cars from a tow truck driver 6 years ago for 1200 with 120000 miles on it, apparently it was a drug repo was stuck in "limp" mode and needed interior work. This car drove in limp mode half torn appart [the entire dash out] until my dad and I could diagnose it and it still ran.(we fixed it with a new tcm) Then sat for like 3/4 years and I just fired it up again(164,000). I'm impressed to say the least. Yeah the car has some issues but if you are willing to get your hands dirty its a fun ride (pun intended) I love mine and ill only ever sell it if forced.

    Hi Adam. The only 40 l drove was a 2.9 back in the '90's . I drove it about 20miles and it was incredibly slow ! It left me with in no doubt that l would never buy one ! But , a friend has one , he does 't want much for it .l think the bulkheads rust and require engine removal to repair properly . It is a very well appointed car and has aged very well . As you say l think the time is coming when these will become sought after. Thanks Adam.

    XJ40 may be the best Jaguar ever build, in my opinoin. Rust on front fender, it's the bracket and can be welded. I have done that. There are some other things that will break but it's a XJ40 so they can be fixed. The XJ40 is so easy to work with, everything is built so it can be repaired. Any newer is not and are not Jaguar :) 93 has Ford keys and connctors but they did a better seal of the panels so I can accept the Ford XJ40 as a Jaguar :)

    Smooooooth . That car oozes quality . I’ve just sold my S Type and bought an XJ Sport 3.2 V8 in British Racing Green with black leather interior . Pedigree , class and style like no other car . Although the Daimler is a step up in comfort and panache , I much prefer the Jaguar’s round twin headlights , the big square headlights on the Daimler were always controversial . You’re right though these cars are forever needing little jobs done , which can be costly if you have to use a garage . Far better to do the job yourself and that’s part of the allure with classic cars 🧑‍🔧 . Thanks for the download .

    Headlining starting to sag on a jag , whoops meant daimler!!! Alloys would be nice and rust issues need a little attention .....apart from all of that nice car great content . STAY SAFE 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍👍

    You seem to have a very nice example there. The XJ40 doesn't have a very good reputation in the UK which is a shame. As you said, the electrics can be a problem. Many cars have also been poorly treated as they have been bought as cheap cars and just run until they fail. Hopefully they will get into the classic status and be better preserved now.

      Yes thanks. I have two jags and a working hard volvo. I buy it very cheap but now it has over 600.000 kilometers and runs to the million, well maintained i think jag do the same

    I've never thought about getting one of these as I do have issues with the styling, its like the previous XJ6 with the curves removed - I love my curves. The large square headlamps are also a bit of an issue as well... but a Daimler XJ40 in dark metallic blue has appeared out of the blue parked on the street around the corner from me with a 4-sale sign on it. It looks immaculate (clearly has been garaged) and the sign in the window states he's only the second owner, mileage is low. I've looked over it and it is in lovely nick.

    Honestly, I'm seeking to purchase either XJ40, XJ6 or XJ8 Jag in the near future, but what I love about the Daimlers/Jags is the function and luxury with excellent performance, and strong engine durability.

    Had a 1990 as a daily for few years. Top reliable and comfortable but unfortunatelly the tin worm got it at the end. (Salt and bad conditions in Iceland) Now I enjoy a X306 (XJR) as a daily, this time in much better conditions in Spain.

    Sometimes it's time for a new car, and your wife got one recently. A car is really a symbol for the owners. I noticed how your own car refused to get fixed. More than once ... it was a sign of the times, to get a more elegant model. I recently had the same experience - I had my s type MOTd and the garage changed the parking place. On the way out I reversed into a lamp pole that was not supposed to be there.. Damaged the bumper. When I tried to remove the bumper all sorts of problems stopped me. Then I ordered a back light. The first arrived damaged. The second one was the wrong type, the third one was not quite up to it ... I covered the car for a few weeks and when I went back to it, there was another dent - someone else had run into it and dissapeared. I finally got the message and put it up for sale on ebay £300 start and cash to take it away. I got £700 for it and within a few days and managed to pick up a better one, lower mielage, better condition, new tyres and brakes all round, immaculate in all respects, for £1100. Even came fully services, and now in "Platinum" color (rather than not-so-ordinary ordinary "Gold"), even came with Sunroof. Like you, I am a happy new Jaguar lover. Stay cool with the sunroof open :) After watching your video I went and looked at XJ40's - some nice ones to have around the same price (1100). Still, I cannot live with the 13 MPG rather than 26 in the s type. Not yet, anyway.

    I had a 10-year old XJ40 in 2000. Driving home on the motorway late one night it crept up to 110mph without me noticing! I wish I could have kept it, but I just couldn't afford to feed it.

    Great video. Thanks for showing in a more greater detail your '91Daimler XJ40.
    About towards the end of last year I also bought a 1991 Jaguar XJ40 with about 77,000 miles on it,..also in black. I noticed since I picked it up, the "charging light" was coming on at times and about a month ago the alternator finally stopped charging.
    I wonder how hard/easy is it to change the alternator on this specific car with the 4.0 liter six ?
    My other "problem" with it is that the "single" windshield wiper stopped moving just recently.
    I can HEAR the motor of the wiper run when I engage it, but the wiper is not moving at all.
    My thought is that somehow, the "linkage" between the wiper motor and the wiper itself got "disconnected". Because of the current cold temperatures and the snow of recent weeks, I haven't been able to check out my two problems with my XJ40.
    If you have some or any "ideas" on how easy/hard to replace the alternator and the "loss of movement" of the wiper on my 1991 Jaguar XJ40, it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

    I have always been a "Jag man" and I have owned my fair share, but I have always wanted an XJ40 V12 6 litre although they fascinate and scare me in equal measures. I yearn for the Daimler Double Six magnificence but I worry about the quality of the service history, especially "those two spark plugs" and whether or not the coolant has been regularly flushed.
    I have found a Double Six that I'm very interested in. It has full service history, 130,000 miles, and the only blemish on the exterior is a small lacquer peel on a rear wing. The price is good and it's only an hours drive from my home. Should I be so worried about the V12? I'm told they are bomb proof if looked after, and I know I would look after it very well.       Had 90 xjs, so many compliments. A few snapshots. Handling was excellent. Tom petty had one Sinatra too. Maintenance is higher than others but worth it.

    US 88 and 89 got quad round headlights. Fishtank lamps don't do the car any favors aesthetically, IMO.

      John, I thought this model US Jaguar had these type of headlamps. It wasn't until about 1995 or so that the Jaguar XJ6 had round headlamps, which was a complete refreshing of the vehicle. I think this design predates Ford taking over Jaguar.

      @@944play ..and a total waste of money as the US model uses the far superior twin reflector Hella brand unit which is much wider than these Valeo European single reflector rectangulars. The so-called "upgrade" is often performed in total ignorance by North American owners who believe they are following the Euro practice, when in fact they already have the best looking lamps already, the Hella twin reflector rectangulars.     The good and the bad of that car is that its exterior styling is kind of flat to most people. Meaning you have a nice comfortable old school luxury cruiser with a fairly modern driving experience (less the massively distracting infotainment systems) that is fairly low profile. You don't look like you are flashing money and don't look like you are wanting to draw attention to yourself. You love these cars for the function more than the form. And I bet you aren't afraid to park it anywhere you would park an old Volvo or Honda. (Another long winded pointless comment to help with your algo's - Cheers!)

      They are nice a subtle which I like. I do get looks from younger people like teenagers and kids. Everyone looks at you when I drive the ‘75 XJ6.
      I grew up in the 90’s looking up to these cars. I guess that has stuck.

    I think once you sort out of of the small problems, you will love this vehicle more and more! No surprise that it is in exceptional condition; it must have wintered in Monaco 🇲🇨, little if any 🌨 there, and it showed underneath when you recorded in your previous video. Engine runs smoothly, that being sorted out in a previous video as well.
    Now does this Daimler have ABS and TCM? I don't remember if the similar US Jaguar had them fitted in 1991, could be, as most luxury marques at the time had them standard, or at least optional. I also see that the rear window has an electric sunshade; that definitely will come in handy during the summer, should this Daimler be parked in the sun.

    Nice car ... it will be nice to "deep clean" the interior, repair the headliner and dye the leather interior pieces. Enjoy your episodes...and I love living with my classic!

      I did a deep clean of the interior when I just got it. However I opened the sunroof on the highway and all the foam from under the headliner went flying everywhere. I won’t do a deep clean again until it gets a new headliner haha

    I’m looking into buying my first jag very soon, I really want the v12. It will be a daily driver and will also be saving up for performance mods for it. I’m deciding between a HE XJS with a 5.3, or a 1994 XJ12 6.0. Which would y’all recommend if they’re similarly priced?

    Hi I have my jaguar x308 / xj8 I bought it 13 yrs. ago I have only 71 thousand miles everything original except the tires I just change them 3 months ago it is rust free and I live it it's my toy I even made it's tattoo on my arm I live in USA when I was in Malta Europe I used to work on jaguars I came to USA in 1981 I was a auto mechanic and in the USA too

    You should get an x300. It would blow your mind! 😂. Are there many available where you are? Are they expensive?

      I have driven a few and almost bought an x308. They are more common than XJ40 here and not too expensive.

      There is actually a cheap one for sale at this moment. Has a bad engine though (knocking) and a few other issues
