I’m a long time commercial Towboat captain, I have worked most every kind of job from large tows on the Mississippi River to harbor/fleet work and bunkering. What you have filmed here is nuts! Huge respect to those guys for handling those ships in such tight quarters, wow! Just amazing. Most ship assist work I have seen seems pretty boring, but these guys….🤯🤯🤯🤯
You do a good job with this video. As a rule conversations with the captain before departure will let you understand when questions are appropriate and when silence would be appreciated. These tug captains take a stressful job and make it look so routine! Voice over and taking your conversation off the bridge is definitely appropriate and I’m sure appreciated by the captain. Overall you did a great job while filming. Your son gets a thumbs up.
Absolutely, this is a first of it's kind video with tugs guiding a hugh ship...you did justice to the shots with your bare minimum camera. You actually jumped ships to give the viewers the best possible perspectives... great job my friend. I never knew before now that that back tug was steering the behemoth! Thanks so much for this unique video. 👍👍🇬🇾
I am actually on a kirby inland marine river boat right now as an engineer. I find your enthusiasm for the industry cool, we get to see alot of neat and amazing things out here on the water. I never realized how far you could drive a tow boat in this country until i came out here. It is wild
We had a roofing sales guy come to our house. He did this for 12 yrs. He was telling us stuff and I LOVE learning new stuff, so had to Google. THIS IS SO AWESOME! Thank you so much for sharing! I am 8 mins in and am absolutely intrigued! So amazing.
I've always been fascinated by tug boats too. I also have a thing for the sound monster diesel engines working. One or those tugs would have a next level whiskey throttle sound! Cool video Alfred!
Alfred, I saw your Miami river tugs in the thunderstorms a few days ago. I can't get enough of the river tugs! I spend part of the year in Delray beach, I can't wait to get down to the Miami river and see these places in person. Thanks for the combination of information and entertainment!
Great video! , 12:21 is so ridiculous, love the Detroits on the Atlas paying the bills. The father and son captains are true craftsmen in boat handling.
awesome video! it's so cool to see these powerful boats in action. If I didn't already have my dream job as a mechanical engineer, I would definitely be a tugboat operator.
Fabulous footage man. These guys perform this amazing choreographed dance to get the ships in and out. Unbelievable. If I lived in one of those riverside apartments I'd never get any work done! Envious here in the UK
This was so cool. My 2nd graders learned about the homophone, toe/tow, today. This was the perfect way to show them what "tow" means. The enthusiasm was delightful. Thanks for sharing this cool perspective. I was so excited for you when the one captain said they wanted to take you out, I cheered! Thank you!
great compilation video of the tug action! I've tried to do some research on the Miami River based ships and can't get the stat's. I think the viewers would like to hear stuff like the total tonnage displacement and length and beam, maybe the draft of those ships- they seem over 200 ft in length! A comparison of their bulk to some common objects would be amazing- like this ship weighs as much as 120 semis and we've got it within 5 ft of another one! Some stats on those Hempsted tugs would be cool too- they probably have twin 1200-1600 hp engines but the torque is probably over 2000 each! Another interesting thing is those ropes they use- they're not typical nylon-- we'd like to know more about that too! That sound the lines make when stretching along with the roar of the diesel edited together makes a good theme soundtrack for your tug series! I''d like to know more about what makes the modern cruise ships so maneuverable now they often don't need tugs to move from the dock into the turning basin- I guess it's bow and stern thrusters? Obviously no amount of that would work on the river because the ship would have to have so much way on it would be flying!
Hey Alfred do us a favor tell us what street bridge are they going thru! I grew up Miami a Block away from the NW 7th Street bridge. & about a 2 miles east of the Original Orange Bowl. I am retired & live in Northern Arizona Now.
I love your videos, friend. And I recently posted a video of how a river tug carries passengers. The video was shot in the north of Russia. Happy viewing.
Actually, the pilot doesn’t actually “pilot the vessel” all he does is tell the captain what speed and where to navigate through bay, the pilot is the master of the bay the captain is the master of his vessel
Maaaan Alfred, You and your Tugs. @0:26 Pan left and ZOOOOM in. Are you a man or a tug nerd? LOL Well I'll give you this one.....But next time..... LOL
@@AlfredMontanerLOL I love the tugs too. I see them all the time where I work. They bring in 600 foot long cargo ships and tankers to tie up to our dock. Anyway stop reading comments and get back out there making more videos. Stay safe.

I thought the going in and out of the bridge was more of a distraction than standing there and asking questions.

Those guys are off the hook unbelievable absolutely no room for a mistake at all hats off to them boys
The skill and ease shows how amazing these tug boat pilots are.
Little tugs moving big ships, just as it was meant to be. Amazing footage!
Good Job Alfred at bringing us this Tugboat Pilots working video! 2 Thumbs up & a bunch of Kudos for those Tugboat Pilots. Simply Awesome!!!

Wow, I never realized how narrow and congested the Miami river really was. This is like trying to kayak in a swimming pool. A very cool video

Those big Detroit’s were singing love that sound

So honored to have my content in front of your students eyes Naomi! Thank you!
Woooooowwwwww...! I got a new respect for tugboats and the operators of them.
Nice work fellows good anticipation of the ships swing , and these remarks are from a retired tugmaster or 40 year doing similar
Thats some tug piloting. Great to watch. Thanks for posting.
Awesome tugboats. Small but mighty.😊
Excellent! Been along time since I’ve been on the Miami River.

Hey Alfred .. nice job editing several of your videos into this combined version .. You Da Man .. thanks again for sharing quality work .. R/ Glenn
Glenn it's always fun trying to find old footage to put together a story. Very time consuming but as you see definitely worth it.

Love that tug in the opening of the video 🤤
This is so cool
Nice editing work!

Ships on the river are 320 foot long and under and 50 foot beam or less the draft loaded max is between 15-16 feet the tugs are mostly under 1000hp.
I grew up on the river and was a Captain for many years.
Those huge boats continue to yaw badly after even a slight turn and the tug pilots can still shoot those narrow lanes so close to the other vessels. 👏
Hey Alfred do us a favor tell us what street bridge are they going thru! I grew up Miami a Block away from the NW 7th Street bridge. & about a 2 miles east of the Original Orange Bowl. I am retired & live in Northern Arizona Now.
Normal tug working nothing to wet your pants over. The Pilot does not drive the boat. He instructs the Helmsman.
Great video. How do the tug owners collect payments for the work they do?
How do they charge is it by the ship or size or what?
16:16 look at that burnt boat...even got the jet ski
Well done...tell us: how deep the river is ? The load their carrying, destination. Why these ships port so far inland.
so cool.............
What kind of camera do you use?
Is that Crosby tugs
That tugboat looks too pretty ..Is this their first job ?
That first zoom in was on the wrong thing.
Why all the car tires?
Hi great vid, what did you shoot this with ??
Try doing this work in the dark!! It can get scarry real quick!
tug boat amazing, greeting from indonesian...
Amazing towing
Thanks for filming & know I'm not spam
18:29 there is a really large tug... try and get that one in action. they must move something huge.
This.... IS TUGS!!!!
Awesome
Esta buena la chica esa del principio
:24-:46, I'm having trouble concentrating on the tug boat.
Still don’t see the tugboat until he zooms lol
Nice
8:59 big tarpon rolling lol

The commentator is CRAZY!

until you rode with them, didnt relize how quick they go.
So did you just leave everyone hanging on what happened to the “motor”? I just need to know whether to subscribe or not.
Go watch the series it's on a playlist
Alfred Montaner dude. You didn’t even show it run on a boat.
Yeah....I'd never stand that close to lines under a load. They'll take your head off if they part.
You're also known to be in the kill zone line snaps you're in half
The shooting of the video was great, but the narrator was a little bit to exited and repeated himself alot.
You must be a seaman if you concentrate on what's at the bottom left of the video instead of the tug 0:30
excellent work capturing that sunbathing babe!
That power boat guy is not to swift bet they get close calls all the time
what tug
Maaaan Alfred, You and your Tugs. @0:26 Pan left and ZOOOOM in. Are you a man or a tug nerd? LOL Well I'll give you this one.....But next time..... LOL
Behave Neptune !

Betty K The Bahamian Freighter
Nice touch with the bikini in the foreground!
I cant be the only one who saw her....
That tug is on the bow of the ship because they're towing the ship a stern The other s*** tugboat is on the stern pulling it a stern
Hey I run tugs bro and. Love you're enthusiasm hit me up bro could get you some good content
Perez Jose Garcia Sarah Miller Laura
That Captain and crew are a bunch off idiots, running in direct mode but with the engine room doors wide open, unbelievable
Fucking sweet👍
You'll be a UA-cam sensation if you can capture the coccodrillo eating someone on video. C'mon bro go back to the marina and make it happen.
Miller Nancy Brown Ruth Miller Patricia
Do you like boats better than girls lying on the beach with their bikinis? Seems so.
Robinson Ruth Williams Dorothy Thomas Angela
Wassap with the bikini girl, where she go !!!! 🤔🤔🤔🤔😀😀😀😀
I was looking at the tug
He said something about distractions, and tugboats i think, weird huh?
@@AlfredMontaner yeah we where all looking at them tugs !!! 🤣🤣🤪🤪🤪🤪
