She never learned from this. In the Revival her and Lorelei go to the pool and body shame people.
She gave her opinion.If she can’t take criticism than don’t do it.

I was damn happy when in one scene Logan humbled Rory saying she is no different than them. When she wrote an article criticising the privileged kids.

I was informed that somehow, no matter how much humbling she got, she still kept her self-entitlement. Does she have a personality disorder or something?

Yet, both Rory and Lorelai continue to fat shame in the revival. Its way worse to see in writing but either way, neither learned from this experience.
Yeah Rory definitely deserved this. Her article was incredibly rude, so it’s good that she got humbled like this!

Rory deserved this and worse honestly. That “comparison” was in extremely poor taste. And Rory had zero knowledge about ballet, so she has no business critiquing it to begin with. And Rory took absolutely no responsibility here. She talked down to the dancer and tried to brag about her ridiculous writing about something she knew nothing about. Rory desperately needed to be put in her place.
This just shows that Logan’s father was right about her writing

She stole a boat, quit Yale and for what? Because the first time in her life someone didn’t praise her.

One person, even if it’s a person in a power position, having a bad opinion of you should not be the deciding factor in your future career. And it definitely shouldn’t be the deciding factor in throwing your education away and committing a felony. I feel like from season 4 onward is when Rory really went down hill as a character. Some people say that’s just what college does to people, but I disagree with that.
@@rebecaa7482 I feel like college does do that to people (it did with me), but most people learn from their mistakes, grow stronger, and more mature; but Rory grew more immature with time and had no real consequences to her actions and no learning points

In the pantheon of characters who didn’t age well, Rory Gilmore is tier 1. And no, I’m not just talking about the reboot.
I was disappointed in the reboot.. forgetting she had a long term boyfriend, cheating with disgusting Logan.. I did not like who she was at all

She forgot that she was Dean’s girlfriend when she was with Jesse, she missed her mother’s graduation, she didn’t even felt bad about being the other woman. And she wasn’t even embarrassed in front of the judge after she stole a boat. Cheating with Logan was very consistent with her character.

I think Rory would have been really happy she was successful. But if it's as a professional ballerina, she will probably have a different body size at that point.

Rory's "innocent girl" physical features and "shy" personality and voice acted as a mask to a person who was rather nasty on the inside.
I've met a few people whose innocent face hid something sinister underneath. The crazy part is how many people come to their defense saying how cute they are! That doesn't mean they're not evil.

She was stuck up, full of herself , but to her credit , she had been spoiled by the whole town , her mother and grandparents, treated like some kind of prodigy, she believed she was way smarter than she proved to be , ended up in her late 30's unemployed and pregnant by a man who was engaged to another woman .

Here’s the thing, there’s nothing wrong with her being honest in her review about the ballet. It was really bad. Sure. Okay. But the body shaming in the article was way over the line. Or she could have made a generalized criticism about the costumes. But called out that specific little “Roll of fat around the bra strap”, was horrible.

Do not ever take the 2000s bodyshaming ways as a judgment of your body. Yours is working perfectly! Lorelai and Rory are just pick mes. Don't ever compare yourself to a show especially cause Lauren Graham HAD an eating disorder and needed to work out a lot to maintain her physique all while lorelai told us workout is boring. Being thin =/=healthy!
Taking the atrocious ‘i called you fat in print but it was a joke’ défense out of the equation for a moment, Rory said ‘don’t worry about what I wrote bc what you do is boring and unimportant, so it’s okay that I did what I did’ and STILL thought her writer shield made it all okay … in reality she’s have been lucky to walk away breathing and unbloodied
She’s totally right. Rory became a jerk and it became worse and worse.
That's why the series started to die because this character just became annoying, frustrating, and boring.
Season 4 was where I started to REALLY hate Rory. It's okay to have character flaws, so long as the character themself is compelling enough to keep us invested in their journey to overcome said flaws. Rory, however, just turned into this entitled brat who didn't care about anyone but herself.
On the flip side, as someone who has worked in journalism before, you do need to be honest in your writing. If the ballet really was bad, then you DO need to acknowledge it in your review. I had to review a local production of "Rent" when I was in college, and I had a responsibility to discuss some of the shortcomings of the production. The actress playing Mimi was wooden and stilted the entire show, and the actor playing Roger forgot several of his lines. With all of that being said, I WOULD NEVER have body-shamed them in any way, shape, or form.
She didn’t really bodyshame her, for the fat roles in the ballet costume she said it was because the costume designer didn’t put her in correct outfit, for the hippo example it was because she had no balance like a hippo

Yeah, I also started to hate Rory and stopped watching. It was just frustrating to watch. Didn't miss it at all.
She deserves it. I really disliked the Emily and Richard encouragement later that episode.

Gilmore Girls is about a woman who made terrible choices as a kid, and her kid who makes terrible choices now

I was watching hoping that this story was about the daughter going on a different path, but no, this character just became increasingly annoying, frustrating, and boring.
I didn't bother watching until the end.
What terrible choice did lorelai make? Getting independent to take care of her child? Not marrying while being seventeen?

I know the initial comment is that she made mistakes as a kid, but getting pregnant at 17 and then deciding not to be in a stable relationship just because, doesn't sound like good decisions.

Richard was proud that Rory "eviscerated" the ballerina, but when Logan's dad told Rory she was not cut out to be a journalist, Richard was enraged. The hypocrisy was ridiculous. But Paris wins the scene with the "stand down" comment LOL.

Well, i couldn't even finish watching it once because i couldn't stand Lori. I stopped watching when she started emotionally cheating on Dean.

Rory needed to be told this more often. She lived a sheltered life where everyone thought sunshine came out her butt. She was not a great person.
After watching the Gilmore girls, I learned that Rory’s mom is toxic, and I also learned that Rory is entitled and spoiled, and that this girl would only eat junk food and caught and drink coffee. She has no room to call anyone a hippo.

The worst part was when Emily and Richard praised Rory’s article and didn’t hold her accountable for her rude remarks. They said they enjoyed it. Which says a lot about them. Lorelai was the one who made the hippo comparison in the first place. Rory and Lorelai have always used mean and snarky comments about people to keep themselves entertained.
One of those entertaining moments when the protagonist was humbled.
Rory deserved MUCH worse.

Amy Sherman Palladino really wrote an awful person in the form of Rory Gilmore. I don't think that was intentional which makes it that much worse.

Rory is THE WORST.
This is more than giving an opinion, Roey basically wreaked the reputation and business due to lack of knowledge and experience. People who train for ballet as a career takes years of work and discipline just to get in the door for the best schools so they can get hired for the best companies, these companies also rely on good business for years so they can continue to hire good performers and crews to keep the art and traditions alive not just in our country but others too.
Whether it is a ballet company or the Rockettes, she needed more experience and understanding before going in because this wasn't an opinion peice, it should have been passed on to someone who can give a professional review.
Now many careers will suffer and people will lose their jobs due to a failing business, whether you like ballet or not isn't the issue here.

i’ve been binge watching the show and i really loved it but after this scene i just wanted to cry and throw up at the same time yk. im 15 and i’ve been doing ballet for 11 years and i have a pretty average body type, but i don’t have the extra skinny ballerina body type no matter what i do and it’s always bothered me but after this i can even look at myself without hating the sight. i have the same body type as the girl she was shaming and now idk if i can wear tight clothing or anything anymore which idk how im going to do since i wear a leotard. i rlly rlly rlly wish i was skinnier.

Ugh yeah I totally understand feeling that way after watching this scene!! Rory's comments are despicable in this storyline. They would never have been able to use a storyline like this if it were made in 2024 because the general public is way more educated and less prejudiced about body diversity.

Rory can give it out but can't take it. Mitchum was not even as brutal as rory's ballet article in his criticisms, nor so public as to discredit her reputation the way rory did to this ballerina.
This scene right here emphasizes how Rory uses her entitlement to hide her insecurities. From the way she talks down about ballet and believes her opinion of it to be superior is ironic because Rory did ballet as a child but was always told she wasn't good at it. As a result, she subconsciously resents it and is why she was very expressive in her review of the ballet performance she saw and why she thinks of ballet to be beneath her

Google "Fantasia Hippos." There were literal hippo ballerinas in the film. It's not that there is anything "humorous" about it like Rory tried to say, but the reference has a basis in reality.

As far as I know alexis bladell is autistic, so I think some autistic traits and mannerisms come through because of that. But no, I don't think the character rory is autistic.
This is not “humbling” someone. This was the writers purposely making the ballerina look dense and stupid to which her only comeback is “you’re a jerk” instead of actually humbling her by explaining how much of a jerk she was.
Instead, Rory just got out of this that she made a ballerina feel bad and got insulted so all is fair, it’s not.
The writing clearly shows Rory being slightly in the wrong but having “good intentions” and the ballerina being too stupid to express herself well enough to show the gravity of Rory’s words making ballet seem a sport for stupid people and Rory seem like a smart but naive person who just simply made a small mistake, oops.
I haven’t even seen this episode but overall this show made me so mad.

Kierra Loves Tv (watch her Gilmore girls videos- she’s incredibly well spoken and has a very deep understanding of the show) recently pointed out how Rory criticized this ballerina. However, when Mitchum criticized her, her world ended and her response was to drop out of Yale.

If I wrote something for the general public that degraded a girls physical appearance for humour, I would be so ashamed and begging for forgiveness. Rory’s acting like this girl is out of line for being upset that she was being mocked for her body.
I don’t understand why everyone wants Rory to be perfect? I like that said the wrong thing and did the wrong thing because that is life. It’s messy and shows that even though someone is perceived prefect they are not.
I get where you're coming from but I think the issue everyone has with Rory, especially with hindsight, is that she does some pretty shitty things and the show and characters still excuse her behavior and act like it wasn't really her fault.
It's not that Rory does bad things, but how the show frames it.
More often than not, Rory rarely faces consequences for her actions. The biggest consequence she ever faced was her community service in Season 6 after she stole the boat with Logan. Other than that, most of the "consequences" she has to face is reduced to lame relationship drama. Her marriage-ending affair with Dean is just kinda shrugged off and forgotten about. In fact, she kinda treats a lot of her boyfriends like trash throughout the series, to the point where her mistreatment and neglect of Paul in the revival is written more like a joke. Finally, we rarely get any kind of resolution on these problems. The revival ends with her still completely jobless and broke, with no real plans aside from her book which we don't know if it will sell or not.
@@JoelBrewtonthe cheating with Dean us real life. As someone who grew up in a place like Stars Hollow, when people screwed around on their spouses nothing really does happen. What are they going to do, make her wear a scarlett A? The ending of a marriage between kids just out of high school would just get shrugged off with "well what did you expect ".🤷♀️
Tbh my biggest problem is the inconsistency of the writing in the show in terms of Rorys journalistic skills. In high school she managed to write a compelling piece about them replacing a parking lot, but couldn’t find any professional way to critique a ballet? Like come on, either there’s writing inconsistency or the show is actively trying to show us how awful she is (it’s not, we’re pretty much always supposed to be on the side of the Gilmores)
I never understand people who say "I hope you die". OK..? Its a biological certainty, why are you 'hoping' it happens? Do you mean like sooner? Or painfully? Something like that?
I occasionally watch clips of the Gilmore Girls to see what the fuss is about. I still do not understand the attraction of this show.

this was the episode where i lost my respect for Rory. Also when Jess came back and asked Rory what was going on with her also hit hard.
I never understood Rorys behavior after her grandparents came back into her life. Lorelei let them have a relationship and Rory turned into a mean, insensitive girl. She did many insensitive things to her mom , boyfriends and Dean's wife. She turned into everything her mother ran from and didn't want to be.
Rory deserved this one and then rather than apologizing, she blamed the writing AND doubled down! OK maybe articles can be a bit ruthless, and the ballet was really really bad - BUT if you can't say something nice... we all know the rest of that statement. She could have been a bit more gentle in her review and SHE SHOULD NOT have body shamed the ballerina, instead she should have talked about the costume design and how it didn't do the ballerina's justice.
i always find it kind of hypocritical that rory and lorelai make fatshaming comments quite often on the show yet sookie is a great representation of a plus size person on tv whose weight is never a topic or a humorous device
