  • In this video, you will see how Vladimir London, a Drawing Academy tutor (drawingacademy.com) makes fast sketches of the works by the greatest Renaissance masters displayed in Berlin museums. The first sketch of Profile Portrait of a Young Woman by Piero del Pollaiuolo, dated 1465, which was a beginning of Renaissance in Italy. The next two copies Vladimir makes in front of the iconic rotonda (round painting) by Sandro Botticelli, a Renaissance genius from Florence lived in the second half of the 15th and first decade of the 16th centuries. This rotonda dates to 1478. The next portrait is by the same Renaissance artist, Sandro Botticelli, dated 1460/1465. Another portrait of the Virgin is by Filippino Lippi, a friend of Sandro Botticelli. This portrait dates to 1475/80. The following portrait is by Andrea del Verrocchio, one of the most prominent artists and art teachers of the 15th century Renaissance. This portrait dates to 1473. Andrea del Verrocchio left the great mark in the history of fine arts, by teaching such well-known Old Masters as Leonardo da Vinci, Pietro Perugino and Lorenzo di Credi. The next portrait of the Saint (1470/71) is by Jacopo Bellini, a Venetian artist of the 15th century. In the history of arts, Jacopo Bellini was one fo the first masters who made drawings as important as paintings. Another portrait of a Young Man is by Giorgioni (early 16 c.), the Venetian painter of the High Renaissance. The next portrait of Ugolino Martelli (1536/37) is by Agnolo di Cosimo known as Bronzino, the leading Florentine painter at the time when High Renaissance was evolving to Mannerism. The next portrait is by Tiziano Vecellio, the Venetian Renaissance artist, who left the great mark in the history and was one of the most influential painters not just in Italy, but in the Western art. Making copies of such Old Masters is a great way to learn about the cultural heritage and to get good taste in traditional art.
