Amazing tour, your enthusiasm infectious ! This reminds me my recent walk in Chania (Crete) . You walk in the city, boom - avocado tree in front of you. I wish we have one such avocado tree in the Netherlands, maybe one day 😅
Thanks AJ! Just came back from Hawaii. Was interesting to see how different things are when one variety doesn't dominate what they grow. When a seedling is excellent it they propagate it and it becomes a new variety.
Awesome. Yes I had some incredible avocados on the Big Island. They were all local varieties like you mentioned. I didn't see a single Hass lol. Hope you had a good trip out there.
I was told in a FB avocado group that you are going to Hawaii for avocados. Please be mindful that bringing fruits, plants and scions from and to Hawaii is illegal. Thanks for sharing your videos. Big fan here. Best!
Im the same. Everywhere i drive or everywhere i go. Im always looking at trees. Sometimes i drive into neighborhoods off track of where im going to. But i drive there just to check the fruit trees out to see hows production lol. I love it.
Thanks, AJ! I agree with everyone. More of these Avocado Tree Hunter videos! I do this up in Northern California, but we don’t have the giants SoCal does, except for a few rare ones. Looking forward to your next video like this!! 👍
Yes we do - specifically in San Jose and Santa Clara where I live and work. I have lost count there are so many old big massive trees but I always film and document. Really massive ones around Watsonville there is one I call Hyperion
@@SVmathfarmer if you upload those videos you took of those trees and share those links of your UA-cam videos, I know I would definitely watch them. As I’m sure others would love to, as well.
Great video. Question, what month is a good month to top a seedling avocado tree? Its getting large for a 5 year old and its holding 3 fruits this year. Thanks for the advice
Lol after the first tree. On your way to see the second tree, you stopped by the barber? 😂 for a hair cut. Nice 👍 i was like wait. What is different in the next cut of the video. Then i noticed the hair cut lol.
Go get a tree at Maddock ranch in Fallbrook. They propagate Nabal and I’ve had excellent results with their trees. I don’t graft but have a large orchard
I just planted a 5ft hass avocado tree this summer and its about 10ft away from my foundation and i want it to get ginormous like in this video will the root system eventually damage my homes foundation if it gets 15ft tall or more
For the Megabal, you mention that it has the leaves of the Guatemalan type. That's intriguing to me, I've never heard somebody actually distinguish avocado races by their leaves before. I've noticed some differences (long/thin vs. rounded leaves, curly edges, taco shell shape, etc.) but never heard those associated with specific races. What specifically makes you say these are Guatemalan type leaves? (Edit: actually, I do know that Mexican race avocado leaves smell like anise, but that's not really appearance...)

My avocado trees are also flowering right now. It was sold to me as a regular Hass avocado 6 year ago. Wondering if it also a Carmen Hass
That's cool. Hopefully you get two waves of fruit!
@@AJTheGraftMan definitely, it’s going to the 3rd years it blooms twice.
Where do you get your scions like nabal?

when is ideal grafting time in Southern California
Thats how Julian lara and his father discovered new varieties.
There are some great undiscovered varieties out there.

I've never seen it. Roots seem to avoid foundations from what I've seen. I've seen huge trees planted next to houses with no issues.
Im new to the avocado game but I'm looking for a cleopatra avocado that is a dwarf. If you ever find one please post a video.
Never heard of it. Will be on the lookout.

Great question. Hard to describe in words. I'll do a video about this subject.
Graft it
You like fruits. I like girls.
Avo fruit ARE girls!
😂 we can like both
Ridiculous trolling comment.
And you might be like boy girls 😂😂😂😂
I’m a tree watcher. Forget the crazy women
Avocado, Tastes like wet card board with a hint of Dog.
?? I've never eaten cardboard.
Yummy!!
