  • Coral and Pumice stone built Dhanushkodi Church requires urgent protection and restoration. 1964 cyclone has taken almost everything from Dhanushkodi except the residue of a grand and majestic Catholic Church and those of old Dhanushkodi Railway Station. Coral stones and floating stones are the principal construction materials for the decorative walls of the Church. Amazing are the colours, appearances and varieties of coral stones mixed with pumice stones.
Access to Dhanuskoti has become easier because of the creation of a highway passing through Dhanushkodi. Irony of fact is that recently some erratic tourists are plucking away the rare coral stones from the walls of the church. Thus, day by day the future of the lovely structure is in danger, it is becoming weaker and anytime it may fall down. Moreover, the dense salty winds and nature’s wear and tear over the past decades are also telling upon these structures.Governments and heritage loving citizens should come forward with effective steps to restore this age-old crying structure. It's restoration will definitely give a big boost to tourism and economy of the local people.
Our visit to the place was on 30th December, 2018
