All these foods that are making a comeback videos kinda show the dichotomy of rich, Middle Class and poor people, for rich people these foods are becoming popular again but for everyone else they never stopped being a regular part of our diets
All but fondue, which i make into caso dip at party's, seems like very normal food everyone eats in rural iowa. Plus don't forget goulash, it's as simple as a casserole. And I'm only 23 years old.
I grew up with homemade mac n cheese, but my wife only knew the boxed stuff. First time I made it homemade for my wife, she didnt like. I made it a second time but added yellow colouring and told her it was a "Deluxe" boxed version. She loves it. I eventually showed her how I was actually making it and her mind was blown. (Note: we still keep a few boxes on hand because she makes it for herself occasionally. LOL)
Born in 66… 30 years before peanut allergies and adhd diagnosis’s creeped in out of nowhere. I’ve had relatives that didn’t like foods. But never allergic to them. Strange folks when it came to eggs. Would gag when tasting scrambled eggs. Yet loved omelettes, and would eat as many deviled eggs that were available.
This! This is the comment I was looking for!!👍👍 I'll tell you what went away and thankfully hasn't made a comeback. Putting all your food into a gelatin mold, served with mayonnaise "icing". 🤢 Thankfully my mother only ever put a few veggies and pineapple into some lime jello. But holy heck, I was glad to see that go.
Born in '76, most of the items in this list have *always* been part of my life. Also, being from the midwest (Minnesota specifically) the word we use is hotdish, instead of casserole.
I had Manwich over Minute Rice for supper last night. Nice to know I'm on trend! 🙄 LOL! Seriously though, it's quick, easy, inexpensive, and really tasty.
All these videos are made by a 20 year old college intern who has probably had a chef cook them meals their whole life. Normal people eat these things all the time.
Not a surprise, since Gen X make up most bread-winning adults during the pandemic, and live on nostalgia especially during the dark times including now.
Sloppy Joe's has never been off the menu. There has not been a year where I haven't had it at least once (usually far more than once, but just saying...at least.) I recall they did a video a little while ago claiming nobody eats Sloppy Joe's anymore and the comments were like...Umm...what? LOL!
I never thought I'd see the day Sloppy Joes would make a comeback! But then, I never thought 8-track tapes would make a comeback, either, but apparently there's now a market for those, too!
That green one with pistachio pudding? Seen it called watergate salad. Then there's waldorf salad also. Loads of salads back then...all desserts. How else could they be eaten?
@@JohnSmith-mw2hh We still eat Waldorf Salad around the holidays. We use dried cranberries instead of raisins, and substitute the mayonnaise with plain yogurt if its going to sit out
Where do you shop or eat at. With exception of fondue, every single food has never GONE away, remains very popular and eaten every day. Also, found in every single grocery store.
4:31 She said "entrails". This is what happens when a narrator reads only what is written, and a writer has quit proofreading their work. (It is quite likely an intrusion of autocorrect, missed by both writer and editor. They do still have editors, don't they? Or only censors?)
None of these foods really lost popularity Especially Sloppy Joes, and Baked Mac n Cheese has always been eaten by anyone with a brain that likes Mac n Cheese.
Crock pot meals were very popular and microwaves weren't in too much use until the late 70's because when they came out, they were very expensive. You made Crock Pot meals from scratch ingredients back then and not with packaged mixes like you do now. Bundt cakes became popular in the mid-70's, and TV dinners were more readily available back then, and there wasn't too much interest in pizza like there is today so you didn't see anything more than a couple different companies selling frozen pizza. Granola for breakfast became a fad and was popular for awhile, with some people making their own recipe for it to save money. Poke cake was called Jello cake, and that became popular in the late 1960's and continued through the 1970's. There was still a lot of junk food out there, but in the 70's the public became more aware of the nutritional value of foods and that spawned a trend of eating healthier foods and health stores popping up. You didn't mention any of those things. By the way, Mac and cheese isn't a 70's food. What the 1970's did was put it in a box whereas it used to be made it from scratch before.
I won't buy unmixed peanut butter like (Adam's and Laura Scudder's, 1970s) because I feel like "why make me do your job for you, PB company?!" Haha! One of these days I'm going to have to try a sloppy joe somebody else makes because when my mom made them she always felt the need to add chopped celery and red kidney beans to the mix for some reason! What I got introduced to in the 70s when my brother first got married was homemade Chex Party Mix my sis-in-law made! The good kind with quality mixed nuts and a somewhat buttery taste to it, unlike the dry store bought kind!
I don't understand where you shop or eat. Everyone of these foods are not come back foods they have always been with us. Take a little time on look on grocery store shelves and all these foods have always been there.
Life changed for us when Food TV came on air, and my Mom started cooking gourmet ! Then Paula Deen came along with The Pioneer Women, and things started to normalize again, now that I am a Mom, I’m all about the seventies!
None of these things have disappeared from the average American experience. The sudden discovery of these foods by the hip and clueless doesn't count as a 'come back'.
I'm glad you're discovering these foods. Its BS to say that these ever went out of style. Those of us who come from that era have been enjoying them all along. Sorry that you guys grew up in the world of food natzis that dictate what you're supposed to eat. "Health conscious?" We were way way healthier as a population back then, eating this stuff (along with a lot tastier fruits and vegetables, that have since been genetically modified by big companies to taste like wax).
Oscar Myer bologna, KFC, bbq potato chips, and so many more foods, snacks, and drinks aren't good anymore. New recipes, quantity/size, and prices suck! 😠
most of these are great tasting, but so unhealthy with all the preservatives and fillers. i make many of these items from scratch. sloppy joes, casseroles, mac n cheese, cakes. not that hard, just takes more time and effort. mac and cheese with homemade cheese is better than the box. glad to see the dishes are still popular.
I never use a microwave, don't eat mac and artificial cheese, Sloppy Joe's I've always eaten, I can my own sauces and soups .Peanut butter is a staple in my home, if you're hungry before dinner PB&J was good enough for me its good enough for my children.
Fondue has never been on my "list", just not interested. Everything else on this very dumb list NEVER went away in the first place. We eat all of them whenever we want them and all of them are VERY available, as has been the case for as they have been around.
A lot of these are children's foods. And normally it irritates me when you mix children's foods into lists that are supposedly aimed at adults. But now...I have this weird desire to go buy a jar of peanut butter and make a PB&J. Or maybe a sloppy joe - haven't had that since...1980? 81? After that, I'll fuel up on some Koolaid and run laps around the yard until I wet my pants and have a tantrum. Should I warn my husband about this plan? Hmm...
What's an old food you'd like to see make a comeback?
Hamburger Helper!
nothing left you just quit eating it

Bearded clams!
I still consume Manwich Sloppy Joe's and boxed Mac and cheese at 40+ years of life on earth.
You have great taste… please never change
Mom called them “Man Sandwiches”
Yep I'm 40+ too and eat those things often
I’m almost 60 and I still love Manwiches and Kraft Mac n cheese
Same here Ed… I’m 45, soon 46 & love to have this time to time with my boys !!
Mac n' Cheese, soup, peanut butter, sloppy joe's and microwaves never left my life...and I was born in the 80's
I'm in my 60's, and had virtually ALL of the foods on this list. AND SOME OF THEM I STILL MAKE!!!!
Me Either I Was BORN 1960!!!!!
All these foods that are making a comeback videos kinda show the dichotomy of rich, Middle Class and poor people, for rich people these foods are becoming popular again but for everyone else they never stopped being a regular part of our diets
I eat sloppy joes at least once a month. I loved the school lunch ones of the 70's. Hooked ever since.
@Brian M. What!? You must try it. Add sauteed onions and bell peppers.
My mom still makes homemade sloppy joes. Her secret ingredient is chicken gumbo soup. I could eat those every day!
Sloppy Joes never get old
Unless left in the fridge too long.
Sloppy Joe night was a favorite treat of mine growing up in the 1970s. A side of Lay's potato chips completed the meal ❤️
Manwich has been on the shelves all along.
I'm 57 and I've never stopped making or buying these things

Gotta agree. The rural midwest never gave up on all these tasty meals!
*Queso. And what people call goulash here is not remotely like the real Hungarian dish.
I grew up with homemade mac n cheese, but my wife only knew the boxed stuff. First time I made it homemade for my wife, she didnt like. What? Boxed instant over homemade? That's gotta be a sin in the South.
Wife, "We've been tricked, we've been backstabbed and we've been quite possibly, bamboozled."
Literally none of these disappeared at any time.
The only trend on this list is the cheese fondue. Everything else have been and remain staples in the average US pantry/kitchen.
I'm 33 and have for like my whole life been eating everything on this list except for fondue.
Haha just a list of things that never went away, that younger ppl are just experiencing cause.. get this.. they are young! 🤷♀️

When did they ever go out?
Who had a microwave in the 70s? My family didn't get one until the early 80s.
I don't think any of these really ever went away, my family and I still do fondue every Christmas.
Casseroles are great for eliminating food waste.
I still eat tuna fish, cottage cheese and Kraft Mac and Cheese.

I remember Sloppy Jos when I was younger. Very tasty!
Microwaves never left at all! I still use mine on a daily bases. Not to mention I still love my Mac and Cheese at 41!
Yes people like us over 40 still love our Mac and cheese and sloppy Joe's but they aren't as popular for people in their 20's and early 30's

This term “comeback” has me scratching my head.
Most of these have always been popular
My mother was a child of the 70s so I was raised on all of these

I live in Ireland, American food sounds so cool...well it just is!
I havent stopped eating sloppy joes since I started in 1977 as a kid.
Everything on this list you can make yourself and has never disappeared in my life 👍🏼

Hermes Conrad: My manwich!!
running out of peanut butter is a kitchen nightmare !
grilled ham & cheese sandwich with some tomato soup on the side , tough combo to beat !
I eat oatmeal, it's heart healthy, helped me lose weight, and cleared up some eczema on my hand !
Not a surprise, since Gen X make up most bread-winning adults during the pandemic, and live on nostalgia especially during the dark times including now.
I remember a casserole my mom made when I was a kid in the 70's. It was mostly white rice with mushrooms and kind of creamy. Any idea what is was?
