Hi Jeff ! I wonder if you have ever seen this sort of adapter ! 👉👉 A NEMA L14-30P to L14-30R -- but.... a short version, maybe 1 or 2 feet long. I have Googled, I have gone on Amazon and Home Depot and cannot locate anything like this. - You know those boxes that people have on the outside of their homes that connect to your generator when the power goes out ? ... on the inside of the house you have regular outlets, and on the outside is the big box.... and on the bottom is a little swing door... open it and it reveals a 4 prong plug input.... it's recessed so hard to plug in..... I'd love to buy a short extension that would sit in that box at all times so it would be super easy to connect up the longer cord that goes to the generator when power goes out. It seems this type of connector just doesn't exist.
Thank you for the info! How about a 30A RV adapted to a 50A surge protector adapted to a 30A service ( or adapted to 15A service)? I assume the second hot line is floated by whatever the first plug/adapter at the service side.... so anything afterwards doesn't matter. A schematic would be wonderful! I wish RV manuals were as useful as videos like this!
So if I plug my 30 amp to a converted 50amp adapter to a 50 amp plug, will I get 50 amps or still get 30 amps only. I'm trying to use my air fryer with the ac on and it won't wrk on just a 30 amp rv. TIA
@@MillersRV No you will get 50A into the camper on a 30A (10Ga) wiring. This puts all the 30A connections at risk. 50A is 6 ga, This is not a good Idea, your cord and connections will become the fuse if you overload the circuit.
Assume I add a separate properly sized SO cable into the RV 50 Amp voltage supply recepticle to provide voltage to dedicated current hogs like a hair dryer, clothing steamer, portable supplementary air conditioner etc. and, I keep the qualified wiring separate from the still active 30 amp wiring. Will I have any problems other than possible potential differences between the earth legs?
I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to accomplish. If you are trying to run separate power cords into the camper through a window or door to power the heavy demand appliances, it is possible. There really isn't a standard set up to get more power in the camper.
Be VERY careful!!! A 50 amp RV outlet has 2 hot legs, a 30 amp plug only 1. If you accidentally hook up 2 hot legs to a 30 amp unit you will be visiting one of our technicians to repair damage!
Can I use my 50amp outlet in my garage (used for our electric car) with a 50 male to 30 female adapter then attach a 30 male to 15 female adapter to then plug in my NEMA 6-15 heater in my garage? 😬
Pair with your power cord - if you have a 4 prong then go with the 50 amp (1 round, 3 blades), for a 3 prong cord (1 round, 2 blade at an angle) use the 30 amp!
If your unit has the RVIA badge by the door (all major manufacturers) it will be a 30 amp if it has 3 prongs (2 blades, 1 round) on the power cord or 50 amp if the cord has 4 prongs (3 blades, 1 round)
I just have one question, I own a 30amp trailer and was wondering if Its safe to connect my 30amp trailer to my 30amp 125/250 volt dryer outlet. I'm just a little confused because the dryer outlet says 125/250 volts on it.
I bought an adapter for my welder receptical, 3 prong 50A to 4 prong 50A, then I connect my 4 prong 50A to 3 prong 30A dogbone, when I plug the RV power cord into the dogbone, the red indicator light comes on and I get no power to the camper, why wont the adapters work?
I would check the adapter for the welder first, make sure you are getting the correct power out of the 50 amp 4 prong plug. this link has a graphic that shows the correct wiring tinylifeconsulting.com/all-about-shore-power-surge-protectors-50-amp-30-amp-hookups/
Not sure what has happened to that video. You can plug a 50 amp unit into a 30 amp plug using a 30 to 50 adapter (link below - we hav in stock in our store). HOWEVER, you will be limited in the amount of things you can run in your RV. There are some manufacturers that have Energy Management Systems on their 50 amp units that will automatically shed power to help reduce the chance of tripping the breaker on the pole. Other manufactures you will have certain items you will not be able to run - usually a 2nd AC or washer/dryer. Hope this helps and we will try to get that video back up or redo one to better explain the various setups. www.valterra.com/product/mighty-cord-30am-50af-12-adapter-cord/
Depends on what kind of 240 outlet you are asking about. If you are asking about a 3 prong old style dryer outlet then DO NOT PLUG INTO IT!!!! You will get 2 hot legs into your camper and cause MAJOR damage. If you are referring to a 50 amp 4 prong RV outlet, then the adapter will drop one leg and you are ok.
If youre going to piece meal out your content you should consider providing links to connect things after the fact. Was frustrated that i had to thumb though your videos to find the second video.
Those adapters are not always ok if the breakers in the camper for some reason don't trip when over loaded the adapter will allow one pole of fifty amp before it will trip the breaker. I do mobile RV repair those adapters will work but they should be sold only with strict warnings. Consumers sometimes think it is ok if there thirty amp breaker trips that they can put a 50 amp breaker in because they are plugged in to a 50 amp socket the wire size coming in to the camper won't support a 50 amp load and could cause a fire. A 30 amp camper is set up with wiring that supports 3600 watts look on all the appliances at how much watts the could be using your air conditioner uses around 13 amps water heater. 11amp, converter 4 amps refrigeator 4 to 10 amps depending on the type. Do the math
What is the risk of plugging your 30 amp camper into a 50amp camper service using a dog bone? Will the 50amp breaker cause any issues or will your camper breakers take care of any issues. For example can you pull to many amps with you camper being on the 50 amp breaker?
the risk would be that there could be a short in the 30amp cable/adapters between the 50amp breaker and the 30amp breaker and the 50amp breakers would not trip and provide 50amp to the 30amp cable creating a fire hazard on the cable itself. the rv could be completely fine but the service still could provide 50amp into the cable/interconnect itself. i'm doing it myself, but i want you to know the risk
if you use an adapter that has a breaker built-in, then it should be ok. they probably make a 50amp to 30amp adapter that has 50amp rated wire up until a 30amp breaker and then 30amp downstream of that. and that would be entirely safe.
hi jeff!! thanks for all your informative videos, they really help. i have a question. i'm in a 30 TT. I'm in a campground fulltime stationary for a while. the shoreline in the park has a 30 & a 50 plug in. my camper is plugged into the 30. winter is coming, i'm in central florida, so not too cold. although it can get down to freezing. i have a heated water hose with electrical plug plugged into the electrical outlet inside my cargo space on the rv (shoreline doesn't have these plugs). someone told me the plug in the cargo space will cause the heated water hose to spark. since i don't have a plug on the shore line, i was wondering if i could get a 50 amp adapter with the household outlet on the other end and plug my water hose into that. Question: on the shoreline, can you run the 30 & the 50 at the same time. only the 50 is only supplying the waterhose? thanks for any info from anyone.
Sorry for the delay, I missed this comment. I'm not aware of any problems plugging into the cargo area and think you will be fine. However if you'd like to use the 50 amp plug you can get a Valterra A10-50X30Y which will give you 2 30 amp connections from the 50 amp plug, then you can use the Valterra A10-3015 which will adapt one 30 amp connection to a standard receptacle.

What if the camper (30 amp) is wired directly into the power pole ethic has a50 amp breaker? No adapter
Be VERY careful!!! A 50 amp RV outlet has 2 hot legs, a 30 amp plug only 1. If you accidentally hook up 2 hot legs to a 30 amp unit you will be visiting one of our technicians to repair damage!
Don't do it I use a bone to get 50 amps and it melted and almost burned my rv up
Will that adapter work for a 50 amp generator inlet box and a 30 amp generator output?
I would need more context. If you can send us pictures of what plugs/receptacles you have we can recommend an adapter to you.
@@MillersRV thank you for the reply...I've found the needed adapters.
For peace of mind I would have a surge protector as well. Would appreciate if there’s a link to an adapter with a surge protector built in?
Sounds like a good idea! You might be on to something.

If the plug for your electric car is an RV style 50 amp you can certainly use those or they make a 50-15 adapter to cut out the multiple steps.
Only if the 50A plug is a NEMA 14-50
What surge protector should I buy, 30 or 50amp?
Pair with your power cord - if you have a 4 prong then go with the 50 amp (1 round, 3 blades), for a 3 prong cord (1 round, 2 blade at an angle) use the 30 amp!
I'm not sure if this has been asked, on a 25amp travel trailer, could that be plugged into a 30amp or 50amp?
If your unit has the RVIA badge by the door (all major manufacturers) it will be a 30 amp if it has 3 prongs (2 blades, 1 round) on the power cord or 50 amp if the cord has 4 prongs (3 blades, 1 round)

No you can't. The dryer outlet is 250 and the trailer is 125. This will fry your trailer so make sure to DO NO DO THIS!

If its 30 amp its not rated for 50 amp because the wires are not the same size. And melt
When using the adapters you are plugged into a 30 amp outlet so only have the option of using 30 amps of power.
