As a Violet Evergarden superfan, this movie just completely blew me away. Like, i was just having sensory overload the entire time. Evan Call really just came in with some new songs for this movie that were insanely good and of course there were great songs from the Automemories soundtrack in this movie that we've already heard. I was not ready for the visuals though. I was simply not prepared for how gorgeous this movie would be because I honestly thought that the TV series for VE was peak. This is probably Mikiko Watanabe's best work imo, just look at the background art and art direction. It hurts so much to know that many people that gave it their all for this movie have passed away. The final scene where Benedict and Taylor go to find Amy was actually perfection. The music was so godlike and was in perfect sync with the scene. My eyes were about to pop out of my head from how good everything looked, i really have a soft spot for well done nature scenery. I'm surprised I could see with all the tears blocking my vision tbh. I'm so fucking biased but this movie is one of the most beautiful works of art on every front, next to A Silent Voice. Even the OST for this series inspired me to start composing orchestral music. This sequel movie coming might fucking kill me by the end, especially considering it is supposed to be the finale of the series.
I think my only problem with the movie was that I just really did not like the new designs of all the old characters except maybe Hodgins, Luculia, and Erica. While the new designs look more mature and that makes sense for obvious reasons, I just really liked the old designs for Iris, Cattleya, Benedict, and Violet. The change to Violet's dress and the ribbon on her neck makes zero sense to me, maybe it's easier to animate?
Violet Evergarden series always makes me tear up.

I saw it in cinemas twice in december. I actually had to make a 3 and a half hour round trip to do it both times, totally worth it.

Jack, Chris, where did you find the interviews and staff comments of the movie? Also, Where did you find out they wrapped up a day before the Incident? This is somewhat of a peeve of mind but a lot of people dont ask questions, or dont even bother, to know the people who make the anime they love and I love you throw out the names of the people who made this movie especially when many of them will never produce anything again. They deserve to be at least mentioned and known.

Kyoani has always touch my heart in many different ways, Especially Violet evergarden, i cannot not cry on every scene that build up towards the emotional finale, it always gets me. The OVA, ep 10 the series in general, Its just amazing.

I had downloaded the entire series but after the incident I haven't watched it since. But when this movie came out I just had to watch it, I had to for respect.

Throughout watching the entire first half of the film, I was wondering if there was going to be some sort of conflict between Isabella and Ashley by virtue of their names being the two families in the Wars of the Roses. Having not read the novels, I wonder if there is something there that was cut.
Yeah, that really stuck out to me. Was kinda disappointed with the lack of meaning of all the setup in part 1.

All I can add is that most if not all of the architecture is from the Rhine valley. The KyoAni staff made good use of their visits to german conventions.
I went to see this movie in the theaters, and really like it. but i think i side more on the side of MrNiesGuy views but still a fun time.
When my sister and I watched this, one of the first things that we agreed on was shipping Violet and Isabella. The fact that in the novels the latter canonically had feelings of that nature is icing on the cake. We went off on tangent about how differently things could have played out if those feelings were mutual expressed as such. The prospect left us with a completely different story with all new conflict both internal and external for our beloved blonde. Any thoughts you guys?

Violet Evergarden is one of those series I love so much and connect with to the point I find myself highly critical of its flaws and my own gripes with some topics touched in each episode and its approach to them.
I love it, yet I think the mistakes it makes shouldn't go unnoticed as the anime is working with a frankly sub-par source material story and edits it so it's less nonsense.
Read the novel and saw the thing anime done super right was to fully disarm Violet when the war was over.

when I watch the movie with my sister something we noticed was that they put some focus on Benedict boots/heels just wondering if its just me, and if not why?
They focus on them in a few episodes of the main series, I think - I can't remember if it's in this special or one of the episodes where he nearly busts his leg wearing them. And I think part of the point is to show his eventual development; he's not a bad guy at all, but a little aloof to Violet and others (maybe a little focused on appearance?) and here we see him nearly break down too when he's hearing Taylor's letter read out.

Violet Evergarden and Mad Max are very similar characters, they can headline the story they're in or just be a support role that's there to allow the audience in.
Having a hard time following what you just said. What I got was even though they are the name sake characters of the series, they take a backseat to only offer relatively minor help and aid to supporting characters. I could go on to say probably no one other than them can help the supporting characters to what they need not nessisarily want they want.
How often did you guys watch this film to notice all this things?
Hmm... I never thought of Isabella as going back to the York family. More like the York family needed a daughter for political purposes, and they found an orphan of suitable age to adopt into the family.

@@mattlucas169 What I am saying is, the "during COVID19 you can watch the entire 1st season" eludes to like it is a great undertaking to watch 13 episodes. You dont need a pandemic that has kept people isolated and at home, substantially more than usual, for 45 days or so to watch that many episodes. However, it would be a great undertaking to watch the One Piece franchise with over 929 episodes back to back which would perhaps take at least couple months to get through.

If you weren't just a random hater you would've noticed that my name is clearly not german, so if I were to make a comment in a language other than english, german wouldn't be my prime choice. And no, Kumiko's sprite isn't chubby at all, you should get better glasses soon, and also probably read again the definition of "cringe" on the vocabulary, as you should have plenty of time during the quarantine.

Thirdly don't just call people "hater" or say they use "hate speech" so quickly. You should be able to tell this apart if you ever witnessed it.
Fourthly and finally Kumiko is one of my most favorite characters and still I can say she looks a bit fat with this art style ; ).

When I first watched the first season around 2 years ago now, I felt like I was the only one who cared about this show.
Flash forward a couple months; I'm finding channels who talk about anime and now I can see I wasn't the only one invested :)

I love violet and Amy's relationship. It was so well developed.
The ending almost got me. As always the animation was amazing. Some shots of the hallways or the background just leave me speechless.
I love that we still get to see the same love, effort, and care in this side story from KyoAni.
I think this is a great idea. It doesn't feel like one of the cheap podcast some youtubers make just to fill time between videos (not that any podcas is just a way to fill time, there are a lot of great ones) but it also feels more personal, more intimate and with the two of you we can enjoy the discution, and diferent points of view. I like the format, keep it up. (sorry for the bad english)
This video was great, i loved it and it was super well made, but like you guys said, one nitpic i have with it is the fact that the audio synced sprites enlarge a little too much, they almost feel a little in the way of the immersion. They were good to have, but in my opinion you could have made them enlarge just a little less. The way i would describe it is that they felt a little to violent.
Just to emphasise it here at the end, the video was amazing and this is just a small nitpic for improving said amazing quality for the future to be even better.

I LOVE THIS FORMATTT, this is one od my top 5 anime movies
I remember being a bit on edge when I first watched 'Violet Evergarden: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll'; since I'd read a non-spoiler review saying that the events of the film made the reviewer cry. So, I kept seeing false death flags throughout the film for Amy/Isabella and Taylor.
If the side story movie can bring about such an impact, imagine the influence that will be brought about by the main movie (that will be coming out this year)
Where do you get you information to the interpretation of thoses details like the wind and it's metaphor for connection etc. from the director?

I originally had mixed feelings when I heard Taylor speak. Couldn't get the Aoi Yuuki's role as Tanya from Youjo Senki out of my mind. In the end though, the same reason why Aoi Yuuki's voice worked to create a sense of unease in Youjo Senki, it worked well here as she gave off an impression of childlike innocence and energy.
I wish I could figure out why I was never able to connect with Violet Evergarden. Like there were moments I connected with but overall I could never get invested like I was supposed to and it sucks...

10 years ago i had no connection with Cowboy Bebop, i disliked the anime without giving it a second chance.
Now, it's one of my favorites.
Maybe if you try Violet Evergarden a few years from now you may connect more and have a better time with it.

The only problems I had with the movie are that the first part felt kind of rushed I think that they could have told Isabella's story in three episodes or even 4, but I have to say that they made the best that they could do with the movie format, and that the second part is that they didn't show other characters grow and change.
I think we'd already seen the other characters change enough, though; they focused in on what they needed to, which was Taylor, Benedict and Isabella with a little bit of Violet. Trying to shoehorn in too many moments for other characters who'd already had little spotlight episodes or moments would ruin the flow.
@@MrStath1986 well yes but actually no, I would have liked if they showed how their relationships changed, if for example Erica and Benedict or cattleya and Claudia started dating, and that happens with luculia.
@@eliogabbalo0965 I don't think there was really time for that, though. It's a 90 minute movie where the core thing is basically four characters; we already saw that other characters fell by the wayside, like the girl who was trying to talk to Isabella at the school. Slotting in updates for the characters rather than using them as relevant to the story wouldn't help the pacing.

As for a suggestion for what to cover in the future, the Sound! Euphonium movie "Our Promise: A Brand New Day" is supposed to be coming out on home video in the USA in early June. I was lucky enough to see it in theaters, now people who missed that will be able to see Kumiko's second year, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on the film.

I mean, the stories are simple in terms of what actually happens, but they're far more emotionally complicated than some shows can even dream of. Most series can't even dream of hitting the high point of maximum sadness that was episode 10 of VE.
