    A very informative and enjoyable video, well done. I'm fascinated by the arms and uniforms of the era, the uniforms are styling! Who cares about blending into the enverment with camouflaged batlles dress, when you can rock in an awesome spike helment and a GQ rated uniform!

    It is interesting to think that a whole committee of officers spent months and years painstakingly researching and composing this ridiculously complex ritual.

    • @grega2362

      It isnt ridiculous. Each movement allows the unit to work as one and makes it a more effective force.

    •  6 років тому +17

      It is going a bit far, but the whole point was to standardise everything and allow soldiers to be trained to the point where they acted like robots.
      That's still the case today. I can load, unload, secure and disassemble the rifle I used in the military literally blindfolded. I'd wish I could say I could clean and reassemble it blindfolded too, but, I can't. ^_^
      And back then, massed volleys were the key to victory. For that you needed soldiers who acted in unison, like robots, even if people were dying and being horribly injured around them.
      Training helps. When I was attacked there was panic among everyone. I regained myself because of training and set up the normal angle-defense I'd been taught. Only after that secured the situation for the moment and we were in a sustained contact, did thinking come back fully.
      And if that happens to a poorly trained support specialist like me, dedicated frontliners will rely on it even more.

      I find it interesting. It is like a more complex version of Hardee's light infantry movements. When slowed down it seems complex and redundant but when in the field the process is much faster.

    • @thomasbaagaard
      @thomasbaagaard 6 років тому +10

      I don't find this more complex.
      It got most of the same movements. And there are some you don't find here. Like fix and unfix bayonets.
      And from a teaching point of view this is a lot better since it got illustrations of all the movements. (unlike the american books)
      The biggest issue that make this look more complex is the fact that it is done by the numbers.
      And that most reenactores who do civil war reenactment never actually learn their drill to any great detail.
      Like knowing and learned the 3 main manuals of arms.
      Musket (used by both sides) Rifle (used by both sides)
      and Hardee's revised (used by CSA units later in the war)
      And yes, when people do this in the field it is effective and it works...

    • @Sybok51288
      @Sybok51288 6 років тому +7

      not as complex as first seen, in a week can master it, and doing this for months
      constantly allows your body to immediately do this things in battle despite utter fear, by the time of 1871 formation fighting was obsolete but in the days of the smoothbore musket (and before then the pike) this sort of thing absolutely necessary to win battles - this is why the americans lost the first couple years of the revolutionary war and why their militia was terrible - lack of this training

    Cool video! Now go measure the time it took to charge the Dreyse and fire the thing, measure the time and compare that to length of the ridiculous number of steps they had to go through to load and fire a muzzle loader and you begin to understand why the Prussians shot the Danes and Austrians to pieces in 1864 and 1866. It's kind of amazing to think that countries evaluated the Dreyse and decided to go with muzzle loaders that were accurate out to 800 meters when most engagements took place at less than 300. Then they gave their soldiers with those amazingly accurate long range muzzle loaders 20 round a year to practice with thus assuring those 800 meter muzzle loaders were pretty useless at anything more than 150 meters anyway because the soldiers using them had so little practice they could not shoot worth a damn due to lack of practice.

    • @philipdepalma4672
      @philipdepalma4672 Рік тому +2

      As you point out the Austrian tactics didn’t match their weapons. If they trained their forces to shoot they could have stayed outside the range of the Prussians needle guns and shot them to pieces. Instead they used bayonet charges against breech loaders because they were cheap and old school.

    In 1850 the Brazilian Empire decided to hire German mercenaries to serve in the southern frontier, facing the dictator Rosas and his smaller ally, Oribe. The Germans would be known as Brummers and would be training in Prussian style with Dreyse rifles. The infantry contingent was the best trained (there were also pioneers and artillerymen) and it is interesting to imagine those men practicing those drills in the video.

    Slovo Chargirung neznamená nabíjení! Chápu, že to svádí k tomuto překladu, ale nabíjení bylo vždycky Ladung. Chargirung označuje střelbu či útok. Těm povelům pro nabíjení to předchází proto, že nabíjení bylo první krok k následné střelbě. To "Bataillon soll chargiren" je upozornění, že se bude střílet a po něm teprve následuje samotný povel pro nabíjení se slovem "geladen".

      The language spoken is modern German (specifically a dialect called "Hochdeutsch" wich is the most common dialect in Germany). It is very good and clearly spoken German for non-native speakers too (I assume the OP is a non native German-speaker, if not I appologise). The discriptions are in 2 languages German and Czech? (not sure for the 2nd one) and the German part is written in modern German (just in a commanding way/ it is what has to be said).

    • @Ruhrpottpatriot
      @Ruhrpottpatriot 6 років тому +4

      The written language is Czech. The Spoken language is normal German, with the usual French words thrown in, as many military words were French at that time. You'd say "chargieren" (French for "charge") instead of "laden" ("load" or "charge").

      no, the main company was replaced by the late 1800s, all of the main Prussian victories of the era was with the Dresden rifles but they were all one-shot bolties, seeing the other nations creating more advanced rifle, the German government replaced their arms with Mauser rifles instead, but by movements you mean the firing doctrine right well also no, by 1914 the only people still trying to volley fire are the french and probably the Russians, everyone else especially the British and Germans are using precision fire at will tactics instead, but still highly concentrated.

      Pretty much. The Drill manual is unchanged since 1906, so in WW1 the drill of 1906 was still the formal one in use which in its core is identical to this one. Put just search for Exerzierreglement der Infanterie 1906

    • @adambalcarek3817
      @adambalcarek3817  7 років тому

      jsou tam všeho všudy dvě, kterých si jsem vědom, z nichž ta druhá je cílená. První chyba je při povelu Fertig z postavení Über-kdy voják má chytit pušku pravou rukou za krk pažby-nikoli za pouzdro závěru a druhá je ta, že po Gewehr in-Ruh a následném Fällt das Gewehr se zámeček nezasouvá do komory (nechci totiž lidem ukazovat návod, jak nechtěně vystřelit při bodákovém útoku avšak věřím, že to tehdá bylo žádnoucí mít nataženou pušku s bodákem při útoku...). Pokud se jedná o sklony pušek, vyjde to vždy trochu jinak což je zřejmé při větším počtu lidí.

    • @radimdufek1829
      @radimdufek1829 7 років тому

      Z Überu na Fertig! to Michal chytá dobře za krk, ale 1. Bataillon soll chargiren - nach Zählen geladen! se puška chytá za krk pažby. 2. Nach Zählen: das Gevehr über! se naopak drží za pouzdro závěru. 3. Při povelu Fertig! pravá noha neukračuje jen do boku, ale i jednu stopu dozadu, tedy zešikma vzad. Při pohledu zboku každý zakračuje jinak. 4. Při střelbě ve dvou řadách neustupuje zadní řada vlevo, protože je tam již od nabíjení. Nabíjet za sebou vojáci nemohou. To připadá v úvahu jen tehdy, přišli-li na místo s nabitými zbraněmi. 5. Gewhr - in Ruh! po stažení zámku zpět uchopí voják pravou rukou palcem a ukazovákem kouli kliky závěru. Je třeba také číst text u obrázků. Pokud jde o ten zámeček, důležitá je pro nás samozřejmě bezpečnost, zasunoval se zejména proto, aby se při manipulaci s puškou při bodákovém útoku neotvíral závěr. Vše toto v příručce platí zejména pro výcvik, v boji se některé věci nedělají, nepočítá se a po střelbě automaticky dává voják pušku do nabíjecí polohy.

    • @adambalcarek3817
      @adambalcarek3817  7 років тому

      ajo-oboje už vidím. Text jsem samozřejmě četl několikrát avšak mne asi zmátly ty kresby. Nicméně co se týče rozkročených noh-je to dle popisu a obrázků v pořádku-noha má jít jednu stopu vpravo a poněkud vzad což v korespondenci s ilustrací dle mého názoru vychází. Co se týče nabíjení a střelby ve dvojřadu, vojáci rozkračují nohy až při Fertig-čili nabijí ve dvojřadu za sebou. První řada dělá to co je napsáno zde-stopu vpravo a poněkud vzad, kdežto zadní řada dělá půlkrok vlevo a vpřed aby mohla střílet ve vzniklé mezeře. Při přebíjení na místě zůstává až do jiného povelu s puškou. Tohle jsme konzultovali i s Jiřím a tvrdil, že by to tak mělo být.
