Peter Hammill's performance is so good (specially in the studio version) it brings tears to my eyes. I have to stop whatever i'm doing just to listen to the song. And I don't feel like listening to anything else after, for a while. I even have a customized Godbluff T-shirt! Probably in my Top 10.

Amazing! The vein in his neck at 6:07 at full pressure straining his voice! There's really none to compare to Peter Hamill!!

UK 🇬🇧 give us the best Bands of our lives mainly during 70 era : King Crimson , Jethro Tull , Pink Floyd , early Genesis, Gentle Giant , LED Zeppelin, Van der Graff, Soft Machine , ELP, Family , Camel , Caravan, maybe i am missing some one else

It is gratifying to see VDGG now getting the recognition that alluded them to a certain extent during their early years. Yes in Italy they were big stars, but in the UK they were something of a second division act. Reviews in the UK music press, were few and far between, and although they had the respect of many people sadly at home they only had a devoted cult following. Many other prog bands had far higher profiles at the time but are almost forgotten now. Were as in terms of support the early years of the 21st century have been something of a high water mark for VDGG.

@@Elias-no9fy I wouldn’t say they’re pretentious just probably the most famous and most well known prog band and it kinda dampens the experience a little but in my opinion they’ve made some very notable masterpieces, I just prefer the more under appreciated prog bands

I've seen this video several times, it's great, I love. It's amazing how the audience doesn't make any noise during the performance and how they explode in emotion at the end. Just the big ones can cause that effect, respect, emotion in their public.

Unique and otherworldly in every aspect of music. They are just in the league of their own. I particularly like how the lyrics tell a very meaningful story. Goosebumps guaranteed every time I listen to this sheer masterpiece.

Glad to see this! I just wish they had a better videographer. A few shots of the entire stage would have been nice. But I guess this is better than nothing.

As to Hugh Banton's bass, he mostly played the bass parts on the bass pedals of his organ, like Vincent Crane of Atomic Rooster and (occasionally) Matthew Fisher for Procol Harum.

I know, I am a "fan" already for 36 years, after buying "Still Life" and seeing them in Brussels on the "Still Life" tour, and it never good again with me:-) I never did mind they were less populair than for example Genesis, but I guess that PH was never such a succesfull marketing man as Peter Gabriel was and still is, but ok, you can write books on this subject, most important is PH is one of the greatest songwriters ever, wich he again proved with their latest AGIN and his exellent solo-work.

The best song of Godbluff...of course the studio version and the last shout of “arrow” on it can't be equal live...but this version is very very good...the intro is better than the studio version and it gives a glimpse of all VDGG on this amazing song....But VDGG here is very polite, they know they are recorded and that stops this invisible thing that can happen...the mystery and perfect night can'T happen when you are recorded...not even the chaos night...so we got a really good version but not VDGG at his best...which was never recorded in front of Cameras

    Arrow
    [Peter Hammill]
    Stub towers in the distance,
    riders cross the blasted moor
    against the horizon.
    Fickle promises of treaty,
fatal harbingers of war, futile orisons
swirl as one in this flight, this mad chase,
this surge across the marshy mud landscape
    until the meaning is forgotten.
Hood masks the eager face, skin stretched and sallow,
headlong into the chilling night, as swift as any arrow.
    Feet against the flagstones,
    fingers scrabbling at the lock,
    craving protection.
    'Sanctuary!' croaks a voice,
half-strangled by the shock of its rejection.
    Shot the bolt in the wall, rusted the key;
now the echoes of all frightful memory
    intrude in the silence.
What a crawl against the slope - dark loom the gallows.
One touch to the chapel door, how swiftly comes the arrow.
    "Compassion" you plead,
as though they kept it in a box -
    that's long since been empty.
I'd like to help you somehow,
but I'm in the self-same spot:
    my condition exempts me.
    We are all on the run, on our knees;
the sundial draws a line upon eternity
    across every number.
How long the time seems, how dark the shadow,
how straight the eagle flies, how straight towards his arrow.
How long the night is - why is this passage so narrow?
How strange my body feels, impaled upon the arrow.

I just would like to see him working more like Robert Wyatt in the future, who refresh himself by working with different musicians. For my part VDGG can go on as a trio but with guest muscians, wich create new possibilities, same for his solo-work, altrough I understand that this is also a matter of money, but I am sure many musicians would feel honored to play with PH of the band even if it brings no money or at least not much

Well, they've always been a pretty close group, lately in interviews always talking about their interplay and how they understand each other from half a glance when they play. Doesn't seem likely they'll be having any guests...

I did never understand this. He is only seen twice behind the other band members. On the DVD Cover it is written that Hugh play Organ and Bass. And I always wondered myself why there is no bass played by him. I had to watch this DVD for about 20 times til I recognized him playing the bass.
