Ben Johns, the GOAT of pickleball, has to put in maximum effort to narrowly take the win from tennis players who only play pickleball casually.
Do you think that’s a little disheartening for Ben Johns? Cuz I mean, take the goat of tennis, djokovic or Rafa…and people who play casually won’t even get the ball back. Let alone push either of them.
@@Rorshacked I would like to assume Ben Johns knows the skill ceiling for pickleball is waaaaaay lower than tennis (like, basement low).
@@LauncherSpiderMk7 that’s interesting. I wonder if the ceiling will “rise” if there’s a big flood of former professional tennis players who start playing. We’ll see!
I really don't think he's trying lol and Sam has been training hard
The reality of pickle ball is that some pro tennis players are already the best pickle ball players in the world.
Give Federer or Nadal 1 day to practice this sport and they beat every professional pickle ball player with relative ease.
Fun to watch. Now let’s see them play a doubles tennis match against each other. It would be 6-0, 6-0 all day long. Lol
thats why they play pickball
Then have all of them step into an octagon... every one of them would get KO'd
@@LibsareTRASHThe point is that we are comparing 2 sports that have a ridiculously different baseline of skill. No mma fighter is ever beating a tennis player at tennis, and no tennis player is beating an mma fighter in a fight. But both of them could probably pick up pickle ball and do just fine.
@@hrothgr52 nah. Pro basket ball players, NFL players, and tennis players alike get whooped just the same.
@@LibsareTRASH In a fight? Yea obviously but the point is those same fighters can’t beat any of those athletes you listed in their respective sports. But pickle ball is different.
It's only a matter of time before tennis professionals adapt and then take out all the pickleball players. Players go where the money is.
Wouldn’t even be close, pickleball players who think they are decent would be demolished by any 4.0 and up tennis player.
Retirement job for tennis players.🙂
I think most of the top pickleball players played other racket sports at a fairly high level but couldn't quite make it and then went on to finding success with pickleball.
Pickleball money wont be as high as tennis.
Pickleball money will never be even comparable to tennis... Because it's nowhere near as fun to watch. It's getting very popular as a casual game, but I just can't see the competitive aspect get big... Not enough spectators to pay to watch them. It's the same (except even worse) for my favorite sport, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Nobody wants to watch that (at least not the general public). It's one of these things that's fun to do, not to see.
It still amazes me how different of a sport Pickleball is to tennis without the running and sprinting involved. Really highlights the technical aspect and strategy.
Footwork of tennis players so much better. Sorry, this just shows tennis is superior
Soon pickleball will be a retirement plan for guys who were top level tennis players but couldn’t quite break into the highest level. That’ll be cool, and I hope ultimately good for both sports
Sam and jack "made" it in tennis. Great players
@@ryanb3721 oh for sure, I agree. I just mean the guys hovering around 100 in the world can then transfer some of that skill into pickleball and find success.
And the best part is the more tennis pros, tennis players, and people in general who transfer to pickleball the more the competitiveness of pickleball grows. I see pickleball as the younger brother or sister of tennis and as a tennis player I’m lookin forward to seeing how professional pb shapes up in 10-20 years time.
@@jacksonhilley7429 As someone who has played tennis for 30 years now i can never see myself get into pickleball. I much rather get into padel than this
@@jacksonhilley7429 Nobody in Europe in frankly knows or plays pickleball. Here paddle tennis is on the rise which has similar field sizes. Pickleball will never get as big as it seems at least worldwide.
These pro tennis guys are really learning fast. They're a top team already!
Not so fast, one good game doesn't make them a top team. They could be a top team for sure.
@@gambler213 True, I meant by top team that they seem to be high level players already (5.0+, etc).
@@paulcoletta3819 There's no doubt about that. They are great already!
They have played quite a bit this year
They're awesome but remember this is an exhibition, toss them in a real tournament and they'll probably need a bit more intentional training. Sam Querry is taking a shot next year.
Let the pickleball players take on the tennisplayers in a tennis match. My prediction: 6-0 6-0.
It would be like asking a boxer to take on a MMA. You will never see that. Only the other way round.
These two would lose badly in the qualies of a futures, let alone against atp players.
Thats why they play pickeball, like why even compare, its so weird
@@MostLikedComment123 Because it is a Racket and ball game and people like to compare anything that is vaguely similar. It is human and fun. Not to be taken to seriously. It is like racing a F1 car against Moto GP. Or comparing the speed of an ostrich to a cheetah or greyhound. Or pitting Mayweather, a boxer, against Conor McGregor, a MMA fighter. Or Muhammed Ali against a wrestler. etc etc.
@@pietekoo5559 but its said in a way in which to find a way to degrade there already found talent and make them looks less good by putting them in a different sport
I love it when people state an opinion, then treat it as fact. This is what passes for logic these days.
They are different games, but they have a lot in common. PB is MUCH easier to learn, without the spin that one can get on a tennis ball, the equipment and the rules make PB much less complicated skill wise. (I play both). Sure, Ben is a great player, and will easily beat most of the tennis pros in singles for a year or two, but yeah, the tennis player will give him some competition. Certainly if a PB player, even the best, tries tennis, they wouldn't be able to get more than a few points off any of the tennis pros, certainly not a game, (unless they were brought up playing tennis and have played it a lot).
PB'ers wouldn't even come close to getting a game off them in tennis unless they played NCAA Div 1 singles at a top ranked university.
Jack sock has won Tenis grand slam doubles, he definitely has good hands, will be interesting how well he does in pickleball, he seems to enjoy it
Definitely looks alot better than expected
@@TheErneNationit was definitely expected
He really needs to get back into TENNIS a shame he cant stop getting injured.
@@firstbloood1 Spot on! Pretty much any tennis pro can be competitive against professional pickleball players but not vice-versa.
Sock has been known to show up at area city open plays where he has had pro tennis tourneys for a little while now...
I suppose the tennis players have one big advantage in that they probably started training their hand-eye coordination, playing tennis when they were five or six years old with coaches etc. everyone on the tour started when they were little kids. But having played almost every racket sport, it seems to me that Pickleball skills are just a subset of the skills you use in other racket sports. It’s a legitimate sport, don’t get me wrong, but it’s just a lot easier than tennis.
Not many pickle ballers got the unholy violent wrist that Sock has
The ignorance from these commentators is funny.
Pickleball hate = Insecurity. Chill out and enjoy all sports. Jack, Sam and a load of other tennis enthusiasts are having a blast out there on the PB courts.
They'll do it for the easy money when they retire from a real sport
Word!
Just a bit of context for those who might not know. Jack Sock is top 10 in doubles. His specialty is doubles net defense and strong ass front hand shots.
Sam, if I can serve overhead...
So if you want to be good at pickle ball just go play tennis.
Well, be a multiple time world champion if we’re going to be specific
@@JTGA38NG querry and Sock aren’t even that big of names in tennis what are you talking about?
@@gozer825 are you kidding?
^^^ Tennis probably the most transferable sport to other racket sports in technique and physical attributes. Pickleball probably on the bottom of the ladder for transferability.
@@gozer825 sock is a multiple time doubles grand slam champ, querrey won one too iirc
Having a tennis background and going into PB against PB only background is like an athlete who wrestled in college and won D1 championships.... then transitions to MMA. Technically new to MMA, but has a huge advantage from day one in MMA compared to a zero combat sports experience MMA fighter. Night and day.
I'm glad I play for fun and not competition.
I would even go as far to say that being an ATP pro gives you an even bigger advantage than what you described. Tennis is wayyy harder and anything they do in tennis can easily be translated to this sport. Pickle ball is too slow paced of a sport for a tennis player not to be able to bully people around the court
@@HarryJohnson69 I can spot those who have a tennis background by some of their quirks, vocal release during hits, clothing, stance, ease of learning PB, and amount of power behind swings.
Most people new to racket sports will struggle with not launching the ball out of the courts or unable to hit the ball in a precise area.
It really is night and day between no racket experience compared to those who have the prior experience. Nothing wrong with that though. Just have to learn that much quicker.
Next match is best of 3 on a tennis court. I’m sure Sock and Querry will let their opponents pick the surface 😂
To have any chance, they'll pick the ball and paddle too.
Dam the pickleball guys, can't make it in pickleball or tennis hahaha
7:55 that is a very pickleball move lol. As a tennis player that looked really freaking bizarre to watch
It looks like a fun game but not really a competitive one .
Padel seems way more interesting as a real sport and I don’t think (I know it actually) best tennis players could compete with best padel players like they do in pickle ball
It's Super Fun! You should try it
Yea, it has less power than tennis and less speed than table tennis. Its stuck inbetween with no extreme features that is exciting for the eyes. Its likely going to stay as a social and casual sport/game unless they change the rules and make it more athletic and has higher skill ceiling.
sick match and it’s cool seeing tennis pros coming to pb! i can’t see a reason to hate
Is anybody actually surprised that the top .1% of tennis players can be better than the best pickleball players?
Its like big badminton, tennis is way more spectacular, more run, more struggle, more technique.
Impressed but not surprised by the tennis players skills but not by the tanking in the end.
Wow, very impressed with Sam and Jack. They are both very quick learners.
I agree!
Not to take it away from them, but tennis is probably (definitely?) the hardest racket sport there is…so going from word class tennis player to elite pickle ball probably isn’t that tough for them.
They have been playing a lotb
@@Rorshacked overnight job
Quick learners? My 2.5 yr old could learn this stupid sport. I’ll be forever irritated that every time I go to play tennis there are now pickleball lines drawn all over the tennis court. Why aren’t there standalone pickleball courts anywhere. Tennis courts are for TENNIS not this knockoff sport
I'm already a 5.8 in pickleball but I have to focus on tennis right now, so if by the end of college I don't see anymore signs of improving im gonna go serious in pickleball. my favorite part about it is just the number of balls that are played, in college tennis the average point is like 3-4 balls.
This is what I mean when I say pickeball is not a sport its a joke. And the fact they're destroying tennis courts for this dumb sport is annoying
Sam and jack disagree with you. They love it
It is a bummer when they take down courts that are being used a lot. But Sadly, a lot of public courts are just used for kids to skateboard on or sit empty. Be better if we had a lot of people play both sports, pickleball and tennis.
LOL
I've said commonly as an avid Tennis player, for those who can't play tennis, there is always pickleball. Played PB about 3 to 4 times, way easier than Tennis. Beat players who had been playing for years.
Tennis players making a mockery of these " elite" pickle ball players. Socks is already better than 99% of these pro players.
any good tennis player can b pickleball pro in a week
So if you played high level tennis you can probably be the best at pickleball as well!
holy shitttttttttttttttt, i have wondered about this!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tennis Pros vs Pickleball Pros
Johns serve hit almost at chest level
I have only played pickleball like 7 times, but I got screamed at by all the old women every time I served above my hip. Why was the dude in blue AKA the pickle ball GOAT 🐐 serving so high all the time? Was this game just for fun... 🤔
He starts with paddle high, but it drops before ball contact.
I wouldn’t have expected any less from the tennis guys.
Now, lets rematch in tennis (spoiler: 6-0, 6-0)
Should be Picklers should have to play a set of tennis against them as well...that would be a laugh.
Is it true that serving is not an advantage in this sport? Why didn't Jack & Sam serve like in tennis?
ima be honest this comment is so lost it is funny, but u might be new so basically u serve below your waist so that is why the tennis men are not serving over their head, and in a way serving is an advantage since it is the only time you can gain points, but on the other hand the returners can go up to the directly after the first bounce.
Querry the choker, just like in tennis. How the F do you serve the ball in the net on match point. Clown show bro. Sock, dump him for Fed
this game honestly isn't half as entertaining as tennis. The atleticism required to run through the tennis court, the techinique required to hit the shots and so on are just much cooler
What people don't realize is that these exhibition matches are to increase publicity and interest in the sport. Ben is not playing his hardest.
Why didn't we just stick with Platform Tennis? You can play it year round and it is a lot less noisy...
Hunter and Yates Johnson quit the tennis satellite tour and started to experience some success at pro pickleball.
Most top pickleball playerd have a tennis background. What not to like for them travel the US and make some money. Instead of traveling the world and going nowhere in tennis.
okay and bro also why these commentators so shocked when the TENNIS players hit a good shot 😂😂like are u serious 😂
If you had two average pro picklers play a tennis match against the best tennis player and an average tennis tour pro it wouldn't even be close. Moral of the story is tennis is way harder than pickleball?
This sport is so easy. Tennis pros will dominate this game
I guess you can put a pickleball court anywhere. This looks like a converted furniture store.
Honestly, I just don't see an appeal to pickleball tbh. It must be for less athletic people wanting to play something more casually or something. Tennis, Badminton, Racket ball, Squash, and ping pong are all superior sports in every aspect from what i see. That being said to each their own.. Some people prefer Chess, other people prefer checkers.
The only reason why these tennis players won’t dominate this game is that after a while pickleball gets boring and they’ll probably go back to playing tennis
Nothing more annoying than the voice of the PB score announcer.
A joke of a sport for broken down tennis players
touchtennis is now bridging this gap
Touch tennis is a bit more difficult for pros than this
Wright is so athletic
lol. Bad day for pickleball.
It's such a pathetic game
@@lancebornmann1160 its fun tho like straight up just fun, not so much in watching because the pros match looks like our casual games, but NO DOUBT it is a fun sport
It really was
Matt Wright's feet turn out. See NASM chart to correct.
Javelin next against wc.
volleying is not allowed right, the ball should touch the ground.
Pickle what?
Just to clarify for the comments, the Tennis players are not walking into Pickleball off the streets, they are avid players themselves and have quite a bit of practice with it. If anything, this goes to show that Tennis pros can't really just come in and "dominate" the game the way people think they can.
How many more hours do you think Ben Johns has playing pickleball than the tennis players?
@@cwolf208 I'd say a considerable amount more.
But these guys have even more hours in Tennis than that. So if Tennis translated over so easily it would only stand to reason that they should have probably won without contest.
Really? I thought it showed the opposite. It tells me that someone who's dedicated enough to tennis where he can win a doubles grand slam (Jack Sock) can still go to exhibition with pb GOATs in the off time.
@@AstroPatel I'd be inclined to agree with you, if these particular tennis players didn't have as much time invested into pickleball as your typical 4-5 range player.
@@LunaticSoldiers I saw an interesting video where 4.5-5 pb players went up against d1 college tennis players who had played for less than 2 hours prior.
Score was ultimately 11-2, 11-7, but it was clear that it wasn't a matter of if they'd be good enough to win, just when. The pb player said something to the effect of "they'd have beat us given enough time".
So I really don't think Jack sock put in nearly as much time as you suspect
This sport is unbelievable. It's a combination of tennis, ping pong on a badminton court with lw net.
Clearly sock would be the best pickleball player if he played full time for a month
I feel like pickleball is the worst possible setup for querrey
Lol what do I have to say
I'm a badminton player here. If you rely mostly on reactions then 20 something pro players will basically perma front you on doubles 2v2 and the rallies will never end. This is the case for badminton or ping pong where net heavy plays are the norm. Ping pong has countered this by saying that every hit requires a change of hands. Of course with the ease at which pickleball can cover front line they don't do power shots from the back that often. So you actually don't need to be that skilful you probably just need to be a 20 year old Chinese forced by your government to play a racketsport. It will probably be just mich faster pace as the pros usually train their legs more... the court would then need to become bigger or players will get injured because the ball will just be hit on too fast and heavy..they'll get carpel tunnel from the long rallies... yea that's why it's inferior racketsport.
Pickleball looks fun, I was wrong about it.
You are correct Lee, Pickleball is extremely fun and challenging as well. Fastest growing sport in the USA.
@@darwest8833 fun yes challenging, for some sure very age friendly sport
Lol Ben Johns was a tennis player before pickleball
The pickleballers might literally get zero points in a tennis dubs match.
Embarrassing how much he, a pickleball player struggled against tennis players. Would like to see a 5 setter, one set is bs
To be honest this is the saddest thing i have ever seen.
Why
@@kakashihatake1029 i think you know
Remove the sideout. Unnecessary
Who cares. Pickle ball…..whatever.
Truly the nurf basketball of sports.
lol embarrassing for pickleball "pros"
Americans stopped winning at tennis so they had to invent a new sport
Can’t stand this commentator honestly, acting like pickleball even compares to how hard tennis is lol
My favorite comments are the people who say tennis is better and wouldn't try pickleball but haven't picked up their racket in over 5 years. Stop being like your bitter parents and change. Do something with your life instead of complaining all the time.
Lol,i did not expect to coment here but my god, stop comparing both things as they are same league sports,is like if ronaldinho plays football 7...tenis is the most demanding and competitive of all raquet sports.Pickball has the comunity and the pros, but obviously tennis is more relevant and tenis athletes are just better sportmans in general, just enjoy both things and stop the hate on pickeball
You're proof that pickleball is an absolute joke. These guys just picked it up and already are right there with the best pickleball players.
They've been playing for well over a year. I have a lot more fun watching a great match than reading joke comments
Lame. Next up: MLB starts play whiffle ball against Little Leaguers
Feels bad for this pickle ball pros. They will never be successful. Since this is a easy sport.
😂Im sorry but the ignorance in this comment is so pathetic, talking success they are a PRO and have sponsors and make more money than you so sit down. and yes it is an easy sport, bouta go pro of I aint going anywhere with tennis after college.
This sport is a joke.
This is like chess vs checkers... the tennis guys are 100x more skilled.
why do the officials continue to allow johns obviously illegal serve? Hopefully opponents will start calling him on it in 2023.
What a stupid scoring system! Even badminton knew to change their scoring system long ago.
