How Much Power Will a RR-Racing ECU Tune Make on My Lexus ISF?

  • Making more horsepower doesn't always have to be hard, at least that's the hope with this week's video where I install an ECU tune on my Lexus ISF. I show you how the process works and we take my car to the dyno do make some noise and see how much power it makes.

    I've seen a bunch of comments regarding "you have to drive the car after the tune to bring the correction factors back up." We did that, you just didn't see it on the video. The instructions state that you can drive it 50 miles OR do repeated 4th gear pulls. We did over 10 pulls and then a cool down before we started logging the new numbers.

      Get used to it. The majority of the F community is a RR nutswinger that bashes you if you show that you really didn't gain much or anything from RR tune.

    • @chibba5418

      yeah, you also didn't dyno in manual mode with the tune which is why you didn't hit 7200rpm.
      RR tune isn't supposed to show massive whp/torque gains (I don't know any plug-n-play OBD ECU tuner for an NA car that does, even Ktuner/Hondata).
      RR Tune's gains are in the extra 500rpm of peak hp (removed rev limiter), removal of speed governor, throttle response, and with other mods, as well as the small whp gain.
      With the Intake + Exhaust + Headers + Tune, you're looking at ~50whp gains, which is pretty damn good for some bolt ons on an NA engine.
      I'm no RR fanboy (I don't think they'll ever get my business again) but I give them credit for cracking the uncrackable Lexus ECUs

      @@chibba5418 OV tune isn't gone. They don't tune anymore nor offer reflash. They literally made a software to tune the ISF/RCF/GSF. The only people tuning with that software right now is delicious tuning and from one of the results I saw on one person they gained like 18whp in a RCF or I can't remember if it was more but it was on 91 octane. RR tune simply sucks. Just a raised limiter and a little timing and that's it. Oh and it adds the converter slipping "feature" at the end of each gear 😂

    Another great video! I'm about to buy an RR Racing tune for my 2010 IS350 Sport, it will basically move redline to 7200 RPM giving me an additional 15 to 20 whp. I'm currently at around 287 whp right now. Fan of your channel because I had an 08 and currently a 12 ISF, but I think this is the first video that should have been done a little better. The RR Racing tune recommends you to drive 50+ miles or do steady pulls to bring the KCLV back up and for the computer to learn and adapt. Normal KCLV on a well maintained ISF is 21-25, higher with a little bit of octane booster or gallon of E85. When you reset the battery or rewrite the software, the KCLV usually drops to 15 and has to rise from there. The higher the KCLV the more power you have, and it's also a good indicator to see on a higher mile ISF if the car is having any other issues such as dirty MAF, clogged air filter, old plugs, bad fuel, etc. I had the same tune on my 08 ISF with just a borla, and on my 12 with PPE headers and Borla and current XForce Varex exhaust. I never dyno'd, but roll racing or passing on the highway, the tune is a noticeable improvement with no downsides.

      @valdaviper1 3 роки тому +3

      @@EatSleepDrive My mistake then, watching the video it just sounded like you guys dyno'd, uploaded the tune, then started it, and put the fans back on to dyno. Let us know how it compares over time! KCLV also has a below 3k and above 3k metric, so the driving would help more than just steady pulls. The biggest increase is in the mid range which I think people will read past and just compare max numbers. For what it's worth I think their tune is good, but the tuned intake is not worth it. Have had both. Looking forward to more progress!

    I have an FBO ISF and the dyno will never show the potential of the ISF at real road speeds. Any Dyno that I've seen or been at doesn't replicate the correct and real-world air flow at highway speeds where the computer makes adjustments through the MAF sensor on the ISF.
    The ISF is super finicky with air intake temps and therefore shows its full potential on the road where cooler temps are recognized through the MAF sensor and therefore you get the proper adjustments in your timing curve from the tune.

    Toyota is backwards when it comes to the way it controls the ecu timing, so the knock correction value (kclv) will be at 0 when you first reset the ecu. To get it to the highest point you need to do at least a few 5th and 6th gear low rpm full throttle runs and the ecu will start correcting and you will gain a ton of power. I also recommend a blend of e30 in it so the ecu will have even more breathing room.

    • @SniperReady
      @SniperReady 3 роки тому +1

      The VW Golf R tune goes from 292hp/~290tq to ~360hp/~380tq on 93. It's true it is just timing and mixture, but for turbocharged vehicles or any other forced injection, really, a tune can get you a lot of extra power. I timed a few launch control runs, and with no tune the car hits 60mph in about 5.0 seconds. With the tune, it's about 3.8 seconds. That's significant for just software.

    • @Danu01c
      @Danu01c 3 роки тому +2

      @@SniperReady yeah.... But if cams are tweaked you get a lot of power out of it. For example, my is350 went from 263wtq to 282wtq from one pass to another by just touching the cams. In a ISF there should be similar if not more gains. Their tune for the is350 doesn't do shit. Just higher limiter that's all. I literally make the exact same power and torque as a FBO RR tuned is350 with just a invidia midpipe and a cheap ass axle back that has the same tube diameter as stock and a custom tune.

    Your F makes pretty low power for what’s done to it. Stock should have been around 350 wheel. An exhaust should have bumped it to 360+ and especially adding the tune, you should have been around the 380 mark. Either their dyno isn’t accurate, something is going on with your car, or the ECU hasn’t had any time to fully relearn and adjust to what’s been added such as exhaust and tune and that’s why everyone keeps saying about the added pulls. Gutted headers and some intake stuff and you’d be at 400. A little below or a little above.

    • @EatSleepDrive
      @EatSleepDrive  5 місяців тому

      Dealership experiences will vary. Legally speaking they'd have to prove the modifications contributed to a failure, which you never now how that will go. These engines are known to be pretty reliable regardless so it's unlikely you'd encounter an issue, but of course it's a risk none the less.

    • @VersanGetryx
      @VersanGetryx 5 місяців тому

      I wouldn't mess with it until it's out of warranty. You don't need to play that game with a dealership who would try to blame everything on the tune, as EatSleepDrive noted. Enjoy the NA engine as is, maybe with a bit of exhaust work :)

Basically that ecu from RR racing is suppose to give you a bunch of power but there are things that you need to have on point like, PPE headers, rr intake, invidia exhaust or custom exhaust. If you have this beginners MODs on this car he could gain like +50 to +80 or even more, but since he has his car stock so that’s the result..
    This kind of ECU you need to run 50 to 100 miles that’s like the way the car with this new ECU will be learning and gaining more HP.
