  • In this tutorial I'll be showing you how to make a blended flower polymer clay cane based on a Skinner Blend Ikat cane. This is a really simple but very effective cane that you can change up to suit all sorts of design ideas.
    We will be using this flower cane in an upcoming Collar Necklace tutorial so watch out for that.

    This is an unbelievably beautiful cane. I’m partial to your color selection. The process with using the ikat procedure really added to the effect. Thank you for sharing your creativity with us. As for future flowers...I love them all and I hope to see more.
    I saw this one marble shaped clay design that used multiple flowers and translucent. The result was amazing. You could see through to the flowers below. No clue how that artist accomplished that.
    There really seems to be so many things that all of you pc artists can achieve. You’ve taught us so much with such a huge variety of different coloring, processes, and finished pieces. I watch them over and over.
    About your work surface...did you have a special tile custom made? It seems larger than those at my local Lowe’s or Home Depot. As always, sorry to repeat, thank you so much for such well thought beautiful projects.

      I don't have my tile custom made. It's just one that I found at Bunnings. it's about 16 inches by 10 inches.

      You sign on at any point in the month (the first to fifth is the best time) and are charged access for that month. Every month you'll be charged a set amount to have access to the area. Personally the $15 is the best as you have access to everything I've ever posted (around 200 posts) and a 20% discount to my store. I post three new videos every month and early access to youtube tutorials.
      Please keep in mind though that you only have access to all of this so long as you're part of the site. Once you end your pledge the access with be cut off.

      The $9 or $5 is also a good choice. The $9 gets two tutorials and a 15% discount to my store and the $5 gets one tutorial and a 10% discount to my store.

    Very interesting tutorial. You explain it quite well. Thank you for the link to the triangle cutters. Can we use something other than translucent for the cane? I am not ready to buy more translucent and was wondering if I could just use regular white for that part also?

    • @JessamaTutorials
      @JessamaTutorials  6 років тому

      Translucent is the best, but if you have to put another color in I'd go with silver as that's the color that's going to be used with this cane in next weeks tutorial.

    • @JessamaTutorials

      Yes. It could be used to make a Hibiscus. It would take quite a bit of planning and practice though because that's quite a bit harder than this on. :D

    Beautiful cane, I love your colors and you really do a nice job showing your work. The clay looked very soft when you reduced the flower after adding the translucent clay. How do you keep it from distorting? Do you recommend letting it sit for a period of time before reducing? How long do you let it sit if you do please?

    • @JessamaTutorials
      @JessamaTutorials  5 років тому +1

      I like to make the translucent wrapped around the cane softer than the cane I've packed. That way the translucent squishes nicely into the gaps and doesn't distort the cane. If the clay is really soft then I'll let it rest about an hour or so.

    Could you explain why your blend ended up blue one end and purple the other ? , I thought it should of gradiated from purple to blue all in the one petal ? , I’m new to cane making and have watched and watched videos I’m just confused at this one thank you 😘

    Samantha you only cut 6 slices of skinner blend but ended up with what looks like double that . Did you go back and add more ? mine didnt work with just 6 slices

    • @JessamaTutorials
      @JessamaTutorials  6 років тому +1

      I cut only six pieces so that I could show what I was doing, but I did say after I'd finished demonstrating the stacking that you should continue until you'd used up your skinner blend.

    What a beautiful flower cane Samantha, thank you so much for showing us! By any chance, do you remember which thickness on your pasta machine you rolled out the sheet of white translucent that you wrapped around your cane right before reducing it? I couldn't tell if it was thick or not. Also- do you mind if I ask where you got your white translucent from? If you ordered it, that is. I've only ever seen it a handful of times in craft stores and it is ALWAYS rock hard & crumbly. I've never found Premo white translucent that is even usable, and it's very frustrating. Ok, thank you again.. You truly are the best!

    • @JessamaTutorials
      @JessamaTutorials  6 років тому +1

      I think it was around 4mm thick. It depends on you if you wanted a thicker translucent boarder or not and doesn't have to be super exact.
      I buy my translucent white from

    I really want to do this but I don't have a pasta machine, could I use a regular rolling pin and keep measuring?

    • @JessamaTutorials
      @JessamaTutorials  5 років тому

      Sure. A rolling pin works just as well as a pasta machine. It's just quite a bit more work to use.

    • @catzkeet4860

      what you can do to keep your thicknesses even is to get a pack of playing cards and tape them into stacks. 4, 8 and 12 is a good set to start with. You can then use them as spacers, so you would need a minimum set of 2 of each thickness and if you want you can use more than one set on each side ie: tape together two or more lots of 4 cards, end to end so that you can roll longer pieces more easily. You can also use popsicle sticks in the same way.

      They're not weird, many artists wear gloves. And your comment was extremely rude & uncalled for
