There was a kid in my college dorm who would walk around panting and saying random stuff to himself. We were all pretty concerned obviously. Turns out he was on like 4 drugs including schizophrenia medicine when he didn’t even have schizophrenia. One day he aggressively walked off campus yelling stuff, and our RA told us he was being involuntarily committed. His family got in a huge lawsuit with his doctor for basically inducing schizophrenia where there was none before. This person was Tim Dillon. Everything besides the previous sentence is true

I've been taking meds and in treatment for mental health issues since I was 12. I'm almost 30 now and I've been on a roulette of pills over the years and seen a bunch of different prescribers. I'm still all for meds as a way to help treat mental health issues, but they don't actually fix the problems someone is having. They usually just keep the problems from affecting you as much. You're still not happy but you're more content with not being happy. But there's also emotional blunting, dead libido and ED, diminished motivation, complacency, fatigue, and your spectrum of feelings is narrowed to a neutral "meh.." state.

This does seem to be a mostly American problem I've never heard any kid here in Ireland on adderall.
I was shocked the first time I was in America and I seen an ad that siad " ask your doctor about ( Insert any prescription drug)"
The sheer arrogance involved in telling your doctor what drug you "need" after seeing a 30 second ad is incredible

To be honest, I don't even know why they do that here in America? I've always been confused about why they don't just show those commercials to THE DOCTORS that prescribe those drugs. The doctors are to blame to, there's lots of doctors that shove medications on people without hesitation, and without asking them about literally anything in they're life that might cause the problems they have.

    • @od9694

Because I’ve been on all the pills. At age five I was Paxil, Zoloft, and ended with Wellbutrin a few years ago. They all made me feel weird or like a zombie. And I lost insurance and got seizures and strokes from Wellbutrin when I quit taking it. I swore off meds and did what I said to do. I feel like a million bucks most days and like 10 bucks some days. Thank you for reinforcing the decision weve made to put our kid in an outdoor school. He won't introduce you to his dog, he got bored in class last year and started a cult. When I would pick him up from school younger kids would walk after him chanting the cults brainwashing mantra. His first grade teacher asked all the kids in class if they would rather be a teacher or student and most kids responded as expected with, "teacher because I love to share stuff i know" or "student because i like learning, blah blah".
My son: " OH, student for sure, I don't want to pay taxes". I did let him spend time too much time with his problem gambler grandmother as a young child in retrospect.
But, as the chanting kids followed us to our car everyday the following year and I looked down as he carried his expensive bounty of pokemon cards he had traded with marks, er I mean other kids for cheap fidgets he bought in bulk on Amazon, I thought to myself "If I don't get him into an atmosphere a little more challenging to his machevellian mind, something that is going to exhaust this kid, I'm going to be looking at countries with non-extradition treaties and how to paste a ginger mustache on a 9 yr old by Christmas break".
I don't really know how were going to afford this school. I'm comfortable with selling pictures of my feet online but, I hear you really have to contort yourself in limber ways to postion your feet in front of your balloon knot these days. And i've heard those are unique and identifiable to everyone.
My son has a pickle jar stuffed with bills he got from places I want to remain dumb about in case of a court hearing. I could tax that but, I don't want his little children of the corn subsidies coming after me. I don't know, his grandma swears she's got a solid system to beat casino slot machines but I'm pretty sure I recognized a balloon knot online that seemed familiar from my birth memory the other day when budget planning so....she maybe supplementing the system.
Well, better me on all fours than him on 40 drugs. This clip has emboldened me to buck up, limber up and cough up for the kids. Because, he is not complected well for an equatorial escape country and not built for prison, nor is there a prison built for him. Thanks Timmy, you're an everyday inspiration and solid parental advisor.

Yah it's always been weird to meet people with "ADHD" who've got amphetamines and they talk about how they need it to be productive and alert and focused; they're not even aware that this isn't how it works and they're taking amphetamines with a misdiagnosis. I don't take the stuff but it slows me down and makes me calm, I don't want to talk a bunch or clean my house with a toothbrush, I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was young and these drugs effect me a lot different from almost ALL the people I've met who take them for "ADHD". IDK man maybe they have ADD and lethargy or something and could benefit from them that way, but they say it's ADHD. Oh well, I'm just glad that my mother refused to put me on ritalin and/or amphetamines when I was SEVEN YEARS OLD. Got a friend who's child is like 10 and is taking something like 60mg Vyvanse... welp, I'm sure THAT won't have any long term impact. Don't even get me started on the people who need you to believe them when they tell you their 120mg a day of Adderall isn't having any significant impact on their bodies.

They tried to prescribe me all these wierd drugs for anxiety besides what I actually needed. I always had a anxiety feeling in my chest snd had problem sleeping . After 6 or 7 meds not ment for anxiety I finally talked my doctor into a light benzo "klonapin "and sleep aid saraquil . These dont effects my mood or my functionality in every day life. They just take away the anxious feeling and I go on with my day feeling normal .

"Imagine a society that subjects people to conditions that make them terribly unhappy, then gives them the drugs to take away their unhappiness. Science fiction. It is already happening to some extent in our own society. Instead of removing the conditions that make people depressed modern society gives them antidepressant drugs. In effect antidepressants are a means of modifying an individual's internal state in such a way as to enable him to tolerate social conditions that he would otherwise find intolerable."

Weed helps get me thru the day and the little everyday annoyances and shrooms helped me to sort out deep-rooted issues I had that were lurking in the dark corners of my mind and soul aka the ACTUAL causes of my depression. My nephew with aspergers was placed on psych meds during covid. We had kids every night in the ER for psych issues during covid, by the way. Anyway, in my experience, psych drugs given to people, like me, who don't have a psych disorder the medication is made for, will make you crazy. I got mania, and worse, from SSRIs. He ended up on more meds because of course the meds made him worse. Luckily, I told him not to take them, but he had already stopped taking them. The kid was depressed. He didn't have depression. Ffs.
