Just imagine it LIVE and in living color...1977 Lloyd Noble Arena, Norman, OK, I was a shook 15yo AND life long fan since, that mothership slide across the ceiling 🎉🙌🏾
George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic bands lifted the spirits of a whole generation of teens in the black community of the 1970s, which took the edge off the difficulties that generation was facing. Thanks George!
Parliament killed it with their 15 minute version! To see them perform that in person was the bomb back in 1978 when I was 14 years old at Madison Square Garden!
70s block parties; riding mini bikes; popping wheelies on Schwinn bikes; family member all alive; community love! Parliament has timeless music! Much love...
This song is the BOMB, this was my song in the 70's. That BASS is BAD ASS. Parliament rules - Excellent dance music. Instead of this SHIT we have now. You all got it going on. THANX.
One of the greatest songs of all time. RIP Bernie Worrel! This song from 1979 influenced and even created thousands of new genres and musicians. Something about their music is truly magical. Good to your earhole.
Your "ear hole" portion of ur comment, reminding me of listening to da funk.. with earbuds in .. had a visitor frm England at my home. He heard me say "doing it to you in your ear hole" He said "what!? 😮 did your mum say?" My daughter started laffin- she knew what it was!! He did not!!😮 😁😁🤣🤣🤣🤣
I remember when this came out...they would come out with an album every November. Good times, aaah, good times. Now this is funk. Playing real instruments. People today will be looking at their instruments like Marvin Berry did in Back to the Future saying wow, I didnt know instruments could do this...lol! Famous line: Could this be me immersed in funk so deep...lovin' it!
I was a 8 year old, this music liberated me from the other music kids in England were listening to. Got me dancing something my teenage self was forever grateful for.
This song reminds me of my baby brother Micheal...he used to blast this on our stereo speakers at home when our mom was out of town and the whole neighborhood would break out and dance...RIP MICHEAL...POETRY777
this is so fantastic!!! I feel so sorry for this generation because unless you or your parents grew up with this kind of music, they will never truly know good music. Thank you so much!!!!
I've been funkin with this Jam since it's release in September of '79. I was 16 years old then I'm 54 now & I'm still rollin' with da funk P-Funk never gets old, because Funk is always ready to roll!😎
The masterpiece of the funk era. George Clinton, Bernie Worrell, Bootsy and Catfish Collins unleashed the funk and we will never be the same ever again.
Another odd thing about this song. Phillipe Wynn just happened to stop by the studio as they were recording this(Him and Bootsy were old friends and He almost joined Funkadelic back in 1973, but went to the Spinners instead. And the rest is history........
I saw Parliament/Funkadelic in 1978 at Madison Square Garden! They turned it out too! I viewed the Mothership coming down in that arena and I was completely captivated and mesmerized! I never had so much fun in my life! Young people just don't know what they have missed with bands and vocalists from those years!
1979 Late summer, early fall. We use to rock this song in Frankfurt & Aschaffenburg Germany, where I was stationed. This was a last dance Club closer. Sweat n Wet!! Youngin's today don't know about that type of having fun partying.
Had the privilege of catching a showing inside a beer garden, back in early 90's in Ybor, Fl... True funk never goes away.😁👍🏻 Get down with the funk, everybody loves the funk.
The lyrical delivery on this track from funkadelic is amazing not fire but when she danced she sets the world on fiiiyyaa!! Super funky super smooth attitude vocals I love it... pfunk4life💯🤘🤘
I remember when i would go out to those after hour spots and they played this there would be No standing room, because everyone is throwing down and it was lovely just dancing doing you and enjoying the music 🎉, even though times has changed the good thing about it ,is i haven't 😊❤❤❤❤🎉
Say Bro Coming up in the seventies me and my brothers would dress up as funkadelics, and play the albums in my mom's front yard.we would actually act like we were them, and have our friends sitting in chairs watching us perform. Only if we had videos back then.
I was at my friends house when this came out at a house party we all had the time of my life… I got so many numbers that night …. I am p funk fan for listener Clinton you change my soul for life…..
When I was in high school at MAP Secondary School in Gaborone, Botswana Southern Africa in the late 70s, some of us were into the Deep Funk groove of Parliament FUNKADELIC and SLAVE tracks - this brings back great 👌 memories!!!! 🎼🎶💪💯👌⚡😎
Just seen George Clinton/Parliment in his farewell concert here in Detroit on 7/22/18 at Freedon Hill. I will always remember it. Lit from the moment he stepped that stage and until he left. Knee Deep will be my fave we had the 12” and this was the only song we played at my birthday when i turned 5!!!!! Funk on GC 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
On my sixteenth birthday, my mother presented me with an album of theirs, I was hooked DO not attempt to adjust your radio station along with the instruments!!
Seen the man himself perform this live in his underwear in Malibu back in 08 brother still has it. I recall leaving the show at around 1:30 cu. I just figured this shit won't stop any time soon lol I want to be his age and still going hard. Rock on Gerorge!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHHAAA she's the freak of the week! man I'm only 27 but I was raised listening to funk. I was on of those kids that would pull out my grandfather's records and sit in front of the big tower speakers and vibe . this is my all time favorite song.
The music from back in the day and before will never be matched and a song this long one of my favorites I still listen to all of the past music today like it's new I can drive all day on one play list or what I had before the iPod years came a CD and I used the MB it had over 100 song easy all from the classics.
Setting here recovering from a major heart attack. Came across this of George Clinton while recuperating. Being in high school in the Disco period 74-77 in the deep south. The track team coming back from a meet in Ruston, LA, we had won 🏆! The song called "Give Up the Funk" (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)” We called it the disco track dance! The whole school bus was shaking!!! Our victory dance⁰!!!!!I believe our form of personal music system was 8 track and cassette. On the bus it was was a cassette player in a boom box. 1977 before every track meet! I'm old enough to remember the first car entertainment system. You could place 5 or 6 45 inch records in the box start your engine and off with favorite date!😂 pain through replacing after one meet everybody predicted we were lose, we won. We had enough money after that to buy a 6 pack of Olympic Beer and a fifth that cheap rot gut Booms farm apple wine our discussion not about girls and Graduation, but would George Clinton get mad if we just called all his bands "george clinton bands" You know he had four bands: Parliament-Funkadelic, Parliament, The Parliaments and Funkadelic. It was deep. By the finish of the 6 pack Olympic, especially the Boone's Don't think we ever came out with an answer. But good times at 65, seems like yesterday
I was there! 1975 to 1985. Motor City roller rink, Macomb, International, Skateworld, Troy. Etc. This music was the bomb when you had 4 wheels, per foot, spinning!
I'm glad this song was posted because it plays in movie "Good Burger" (funny movie!!); I'm not sure why I didn't get this album, but I have others of George Clinton and The Parliament; ENJOY THIS MUSIC! MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD AND THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED, IT HELPS YOU THROUGH THE DAY AND NIGHT!! THANK GOD! ❣
One of the best orchestrated songs ever.
Just imagine it LIVE and in living color...1977 Lloyd Noble Arena, Norman, OK, I was a shook 15yo AND life long fan since, that mothership slide across the ceiling 🎉🙌🏾
