I've called it "cracking the whip" and when it all comes together at the ball, it's pretty darned good! My mistake, waiting too long to begin the downswing. I believe that your beautiful illustration will help me to accomplish the goal of maximum club head speed at the ball much more consistently. Thank you once again Clay for another phenomenal golf lesson!!! "Top Speed Golf" has already helped my game immensely.

So, "lag and snap". 🙂 Had to give up tennis, so back to golf after 25 years. Amazing how much great info is now available via UA-cam, and it looks like you are consistently delivering the same info as the pro's who seem to have the best stuff for all the areas I've looked at so far. Enjoyed your "physics" approach to tennis and am now encouraged that I can solve most of the issues that ran me out of the game so long ago. Thanks!

@@TopSpeedGolf Aha! Whilst watching your review of the "Divot Board" this morning and soaking in all of your nuanced insights, I happened to home in (not "hone in" 🙂) on your evaluation of the initial portion of those "bent over" sequins - noting whether it showed that the "toe" of the club or the "heel" of the club might've stricken the ground first. Kinda wondered why something that goofy would ever even come up. *But*, the little wifey - whom I had recruited to stand behind the video camera (whose storage had by now filled up with too much 120 fps video) to see if *she* could tell why, when I was hitting "punch" shots with wiffle balls, that the only shots that yielded the divots that I was trying to place in front of said wiffles produced *shanks* - *every single time*!! When she mentioned the "shape" of those divots, I looked at one of them more carefully and recalled that such an odd "start" might, indeed, derive from a club head's toe or heel making initial contact with the ground. Uh oh. My hands *had* gotten strangely low at address somewhere along the line. *And*, that sissy ass, toe down, just off the toes of the left foot "putting stroke" chipping technique I'd picked up off the web, whilst *never* yielding a shank and rarely ever yielding any of the "other" miss-hits, what if I ever needed a "manly" shot in a short sided situation or over crocodiles?? Once I addressed those wiffle balls with a "flat on the ground" leading edge, all the ensuing strokes yielded divots and ball flights within the range of normal. Then proceeded to hit "real ball" chips and pitches *fearlessly*! with that same change of address. I shall try not to ponder those interim wasted thirty years due to a failure to diagnose that odd angle. 😞 However, in celebration, I shall order me one of those fancy, expensive Divot Boards (with their replaceable inserts) and proceed to shoot my age, forthwith.

Clay, that’s one of all time favorite video. In the past, I have struggled with contact through the ball due to rushing the down swing that’s cause by late weight shift. Since I have applied the elephant trunk method, I have gained unbelievable swing speed, 15-18 yards distance in all of my irons. I have more space for the arms to swing through without thinking about it. the clubs are shallower and in the slots. My driver went from 260 at best to 285 with ease. If I crank my swing speed with the driver I can reach 295-300 with less muscular effort. Thank you clay for this gem of a presentation.

This is a great golf tip Clay - I will definately try to apply this - I often struggle with too steep or topping, while next shot is pretty much perfect impact but not enough easy power - so its taking more effort to get it right..thx!

Excellent visualization. What you initially talked about was exactly my swing in the past. I am working on the elephant trunk pattern for this season. Working on the timing so that I recenter at P3. What I fail to understand is if you wait to start the downswing at P4, or do I start the squat move/ sit to square immediately when I recenter and the club is still getting to P4? Thanks.

Hi Clay ! Love your videos. I have a difficult question Love to know your views descriptively. In my practice swing i have more hips close, chest close, more shallow(inside) right path like severe draw but in actual swing with ball , mind compensates with
hips, shoulders open, left path for hitting straight shot till impact
and then in follow through also the swing path goes to the right till one moment before finish.
and then it goes to normal at last and manages to get a straight shot.
Because if it replicates practice swings then I can miss the ball.
In other words at practice the swing club is more behind at the delivery position and in actual swing the club is more outside at the delivery position.
I think if I fix this open move in Actual swing by making a close move
with my body then I am doing the wrong fix. Because it is fake open.
So If I Fix like a severe draw move (which happens in practice swing)
By making my Hips more open in downswing then it is the right fix. But not sure.
    Do you see such pattern?
    How would you fix this?

I was at the range today trying this out. I'm fine when I do a practise swing and everything is flowing and smooth. Once I put a ball there I find it impossible and lock up. I've always had a problem with weight shift and have learned towards leaving the weight on my lead side but my shots are weak and inconsistent.

What helps me is looking an inch or so ahead of the ball, not right at the ball. It's all a head game. If I am looking at the grass, or mat, or my carpet in my house...no issues. Feels like I am only practicing my swing instead of needing to hit a golf ball in a direction.

An easy drill is to put a tennis or raquet ball at the end of a rope with a grip on the other end. It can only work if you have proper tempo and timing.

Explain how in the first part your shifting weight to lead leg as the hands are going back, preview video section your saying get weight to back leg with no mention of hips bumping. Maybe you get it, but it just confuses the crap out of me. Shallowing the club makes sense Sergio has a short video out in which he is advocating pull the club down, ring the bell. Golf instruction is getting more like politics every day: with one exception we all want to improve in golf. Politics some don’t care if others fail!
