This was on RTÉ Television, it was recorded when Elbow played St. James' Church, Dingle, Co. Kerry in December 2005.
They were promoting their album "Leaders of the free world"
I have the rest of the show as well, have a look in my videos.
I'm loving the new single "Grounds for divorce" and can't wait for the new album (Seldom seen kid)
:0)
It just shows the real talent of the group. They can play different tempo songs and they do them all well. One of my favorites.
Oh elbow elbow elbow, how you bring me to the brink of tears, the word beauty was made for you.
stunning and tender. Big hearted men of the people. Nobody does it like Elbow.
Mint! Perfect! Back when the love of my life was around. Miss her dearly.. Always with me❤️, never forgotten ❤️. Thanks lads 👍 xx
😪💔
i still cannot get over how incredibly beautiful this song is
it is CRIMINAL how underrated this band are
on the otherhand at least it stops them gettin destroyed by popularity i guess
Extraordinary emotions in an everyday setting. Memory, time in a bottle. Perfection.
this is heavenly, powerful, soft, heartfelt and delicate. Only Elbow can weave such wonderful music , they are all completely working in sync.
What at beautiful song, makes me cry every time!
Hope lots of people out there get into ELBOW!!!!!
Cheers, Y
I love this song so much. It captures a specific moment and yet, if you've been on a Manchester bus in the pouring rain, it also captures that. You really can imagine the weary shoppers and the bus crawling the Manchester town centre; everyone just wants to get home.
One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, I love listening to it!
most amazing song by the most extraordinary band of my lifetime.
A sodium light, turning silver to gold.
One of the best lyrics ever.
one of my fav of all time...
the best band.Simple like that.
This song does me in..in a good way. The music the lyrics
This song is perfect. Defs the best song they've ever written. Delicate and heartbreaking.
God asked Elbow how they could improve on perfection, and they responded with this. Absolutely f***ing gorgeous.
Great Expectations IS THE most beautiful Elbow track. It makes me tear up when I listen to it..
Mr Garvey agrees with you ,he said at the Q the music gig in Covent garden 'this is the best song we've ever written' before playing the best performance i've ever seen.
why a song like this can't propel a band to god status I'll never know . An awesome vocal, measured, beautiful, heartfelt, wells up emotion. Leaders of the free world is an awesome album
Absolutely brilliant music, loving all these live Elbow clips now on youtube.
Can't wait for them to return to Australia.
Great Expectations by Elbow | Lyrics
And if it rains all day
Call on you I'll call on you
Like I used to
Slide down beside and wrap you in stories
Tailored entirely for you
I'll remind you
We exchanged a vow
I love you I always will
A call girl with yesterday eyes
Was our witness and priest
Stockport supporters club kindly provided a choir
Your vow was your smile
As we move down the aisle
Of the last bus home
And this is where I go
Just when it rains
Blinking and stoned
Rain in your hair
You only smoke cause it's something to share
Singing bring on the night
To have and to hold
The sodium light turning silver to gold
Spitfire thin and strung like a violin
I was
Yours was the face with a grace
From a different age
You were the sun in my Sunday morning
You were the sun in my Sunday morning
Telling me never to go
So I'll live on the smile
And move down the aisle
Of the last bus home
And if you're running late
This is where I'll go
Know I'll always wait
❣
Beautiful!!!
Lovely tune. I have to work on Saturday or I would be at Webster Hall (NYC) too. I believe the bass in this video is an Epiphone Jack Cassidy model, Gavin from Camera Obscura has one too.
You'd never guess Guy was smothered with a flu that night. What a voice!
No studio work on his voice. Solid performance.
Seeing them in Glasgow tomorrow night... this is my favourite song from Leaders (hope so much they play it!)
Gorgeous. Unparalleled in every way.
how could some tool thumbs this down......? lol Soulless beast.. I pity the fool (Said in the voice of BA Barracus )
I'm not surprised there are zero dislikes! How could anyone in their right mind not like this?!
Just the best Guy and the lads
Pure music

Fantastic
Still my favourite...
Love You Elbow

wonderful
Me too. Glad you like.
So well performed that it sounds like a playback. I love this band!
what a band watched grounds for divorce on jon ross this morning superb
My pleasure. Much as I love Elbow, I'm a happily married man so they are all yours...
Stunning
this song got me through my gcse's
I still don't get why this video only has 62,438 views. Seriously.
I realise this song isn't actually about marriage but I felt it was written about two people having some kind of realisation of how in love they were at that random moment. However my boyfriend called me 'naive' by claiming that the song is about falling for a random girl on a single bus journey. He's probably right but it's such a beautiful song, I want to believe its about something far deeper - real love!! Anybody else have any ideas so I don't feel so crushed?!
This song always reminds me of "Wind and Wuthering" or "A Trick of the Tail" era of Genesis.
the last line: "know i'll always wait". he is a fuckn poet that garvey, a fuckn poet.
That's exactly what I thought - and I used those lines to try and disprove the boyfriends theory. Thanks for your confirmation, don't feel so 'naive' anymore.
Reminds me of early Genesis. They must have been fans...
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!
Does anyone know the block chords? I've tried to play it by ear but it's not the same :|
Ahh.
I love Elbow. Absolutely beautiful :')
i know how to play it but i'm not that big on how to write it down cos its a plucking pattern and I'm not musically trained. I can write it as a tab for you.
Does anyone know what make that Bass is please? 1:23
Thought the gig last night was bloody brilliant - his voice is so great live (just as good as on the CDs). Highlights for me were Newborn and One Day Like This. Great Expectations was good too, but spoiled for me by some arsehole having a natter with his mate right beside me - you know the kind of idiot: stands with his back to the stage and talks in a loud voice during the quiet numbers. Just stay in the pub pal, do us all a favour. BUT... apart from that, really excellent gig.
Aye, i was at the glasgow ACB gig last night aswell, check out my page for a few vids from the gig.
