What's so misunderstood about it though? It was underpowered and overpriced, and had a small library of mostly unimpressive and inept games. NEC had no clue what they were doing without Hudson to help them.
I just ordered a pcfx off ebay today, cant wait to get it. Im looking forward to playing the english translated games, as well as the rest. I wish there was more of a homebrew scene for the pcfx. It would be cool to see it able to play pc engine games off a burned cd, similar to how a dreamcast can play snes roms off a cdr using dreamsnes.
Awesome! There isn't much of a homebrew scene... Yet. Some folks have actually done some pretty amazing stuff in the past 6 months or so. We'll probably do an episode about PC-FX homebrew at some point especially if things start to gel around some good documentation or demos.
@@pcfxfanclub cool, lll join the discord you guys have when I get the console and mess around with it a bit. Thanks for everything you guys do with this podcast, you guys rock!
Hey John! We appreciate the feedback! We'll keep it in mind. We definitely want to do more, but exactly what we do and have time for is really the big question. I can at least say we have another episode coming up in the short term here, so stay tuned!
This is the very first time ever I've heard anyone pronounce NEC as "en-ey-see", instead of "neck". And I've been using NECk's hardware since late 80's.
Hey, i just found this channel now! Gosh, i already have so much to watch .. did you already do a video on Battle Heat? I need to see if a competitive scene can beat my jump kick meta, since it wrecks the AI opponents even on the hardest difficulties.
Thanks for watching and we hope you enjoy the backlog! It is really funny that a common tactic in a more traditional fighting game also works full force in a cinematic fighter lol. Unfortunately, we haven't talked much Battle Heat here and I don't think either of us has personally made a video either. We both previously made PC-FX content on our own respective channels. You can find Matt / Filler's here: ua-cam.com/video/pEaq7TBNRKE/v-deo.html&pp=iAQB You can find Ben's here: ua-cam.com/video/-V70SEKmeQY/v-deo.html&pp=iAQB There's technically a Battle Heat PC-FX video in Ben's playlist, but it didn't really talk about the game itself. It was more focused on detailing the resources around Battle Heat that you can use to learn how to play.
Chip-chan Kick. That's going to be one hell of an episode, I bet. Considering it's origins and backstory, I mean. Probably might end up in a controversy.
We're aiming at keeping things tasteful overall, though that won't deny the reality that some games and themes may make some people feel uncomfortable due to their content. So we'll try to give proper heads-up whenever possible.
Ben here. I can't remember what we said about it, but that sounds right lol. I don't think either of us are MSX experts though. I did see one at a PC convention in Chicago though!
I think all these bad decisions NEC made is to kill off the gaming division of the company. Why didn't they make the PC Engine games compatible with the PC-FX.
What year did they kill off the gaming division? And PC Engine support would have been great for the core PC Engine fans for sure! Though it's likely it wouldn't have made a big difference in how the system played out.
@@orlandoturbo6431 Gotcha! You're talking about hardware. And yeah, PC-FX was the end of their hardware run. However they did do a bit of publishing on Dreamcast so I'd highly recommend taking a look at those games too!
I was so disappointed by the PC FX. I bought every PC Engine Fan at our Japan Store in Zürich and all new PC FX games were dating sims. What where they thinking?
That's a big part of why we want to do this show, so it's easier to understand exactly what the thought process was behind this console and the games made for it. So hopefully we can help you find that answer!
@@pcfxfanclub I knew nobody in '93 who was into dating sims. Okay, there was Tokimeki and some others but honestly, the first pictures from the Hudson Soft prototype console were leading to a 3D console. And why release a six button bad that was not used at all? Why not build on the success of Far East of Eden series and all the action games the PC Engine had to offer. Can you find internal NEC documentation from the BOD that give some evidence?
@@georgdietrich5527 If we find any details that help answer some of those questions in our research, we'll be happy to share them. But we're also just two Americans, so our access likely won't be much deeper than most others. But we'll take every opportunity to speak to those who can provide us insight into the contemporary audience, modern-day communities, and development behind the PC-FX. We hope you stay tuned!

Kudos to you both for venturing down the path seldom taken nowadays to highlight this much maligned and misunderstand platform.
Thanks! Glad to have you on board!

My favorite pc-fx game is "Cruddy Pants 2"
You should upload some gameplay videos and reviews on this channel to bulk the content up. It's looking like the definitive PC-FX channel.
