    I have a 128-13 from October 1937. I rewired the motor, the Singerlight and the power cord. Quite proud of myself, Bob. Wish I had the right (large enough) tools to take apart the shuttle driver. It's so dirty underneath but it still makes a beautiful stitch. Love your videos, my friend. Thanks so much.

    I would love for you to do a video on adjusting the timing on the vibrating shuttle. I have the manual but seeing someone explain the instructions, which are confusing to laymen, would be such a ahah moment.

    Thank you for your instructions as it is helping me do what I am comfortable doing and holding back when I know I do not have enough knowledge or the tools to do the adjustments. So far so good, my 1894 is sewing beautifully but it is not as squeaky clean as yours. One step at a time.

    💕 I'm glad to have found this video. I have a New Home VS that I just can't figure out why it won't pick up the bobbin thread. The demo of the shuttle moving the thread is invaluable.

    • @BobFowlerWorkshop
      @BobFowlerWorkshop  3 роки тому +1

      Quite often on VS machines, the reason they don't pick up the bobbin thread is a bent shuttle carrier. While your New Home is somewhat different from the Singer, the concepts are exactly the same. If you need a copy of the Singer 127 adjuster's manual, email me and I can help you out. The info in the manual, while not exactly the same, should help you get your New Home running again.

    I've absolutely loved all the VS machine vids. I'll watch anything you put out because it's always interesting and informative (not to mention the expansion of my vocabulary - tappiology is a wonderful word) but of course I have an extra-special interest in the VS machines, just because I have so many that need TLC.
    I have to say, the lighting and camera work is fantastic on this video - that investment you made in the upgraded equipment has made a huge difference. Thank you!
    I agree that that adjuster's manual on the Singer VS machines is excellent too. Over the last couple of days I've been reassembling all the bits I took off an old Singer 28 - and the manual was a huge help doing all the adjustments. Not as helpful as your vids, I admit, but a huge help just the same. I was very much relieved I hadn't taken off the shuttle carrier (as advised in another of your vids) because that looks a little on the daunting side to me. :-)

      Thanks for the kind words. This was a fun video to shoot. Getting zoomed in that tight and keeping everything in focus wasn't easy, but the impact was pretty cool. I edit using a 32" monitor and a needle and thread at these magnifications is kinda cool. For those who haven't looked at Megan's UA-cam channel, she posted her recently completed 28. Here it is, and it is magnificent! ua-cam.com/video/B0SA3_hkgPU/v-deo.html

    Thank you so much for all of these wonderful videos. I have a Jones vibrating shuttle that is making a terrible noise. I have pinpointed it to the fact that the needle bar wiggles up and down a bit. I have no idea how to fix this. I’m guessing it’s a worn and I’m probably not going to be able to get to it much less find a part for Jones machine in the US.

    • @BobFowlerWorkshop
      @BobFowlerWorkshop  2 місяці тому

      I have never seen a Jones VS machine, but I have to assume it's not too different from most of the other VS machines made in the day. Availability is probably very different on the other side of the pond, but here in the US... Not so much.

    Thank you for showing how the shuttle works, that was really interesting!
    Have you done any work on White VS machines? I was recently gifted one and am currently reassembling it after cleaning a lot of gunk off. It's from 1885-86 and has a boat shaped shuttle, and I've barely been able to find any information about it online, aside from a scan of the manual and a bit about the dates. I haven't even found any photos of one with the same decal design as mine.

    Good morning, Bob.
    I would like to sew various types and thicknesses of leather with my treadle 27. I am curious, are you potentially open to creating an in-depth video about any details and adjustments that will be important to be aware of regarding sewing leather with a 27?
    Thank you.

    How do you know which way it comes out? It's kind of scary to be banging on the shaft without support underneath. Oooh you need to do a split screen with take up arm on one side and shuttle/needle on the other.

    • @BobFowlerWorkshop
      @BobFowlerWorkshop  3 роки тому

      Well, the best way is to use a caliper and measure the relative diameters of the pin at each side. The small side is where you apply gentle tappiology with pin punch and plastic mallet, with GENTLE being the operative word. The adjusters manual does state to support the shaft with a wood block, which I clearly did not do in the video, but I've done this many, many times and am very gentle in my application of force top remove the pins. I like the idea of the split screen, Now I need to buy yet another camera... :-)

    Great video! Do you mean the Davis Vertical Feed? Mine is so noisy and the shuttle sort of “jumps” as the thread goes around it, so it probably needs something. It’s from 1883 and I’m afraid to clean it or take it apart for fear of ruining something. It’s so noisy! I’m binge-watching your channel and really enjoying it.😍

    • @BobFowlerWorkshop
      @BobFowlerWorkshop  2 роки тому

      Actually, both the Davis vertical feed and Davis under feed machines have very long moment arms for the shuttle. I have a Free on the bench right now with a relatively short moment arm, very similar to a Singer, but have a different Free that has a moment arm somewhere between the Davis and the Singer. Go figure...

    Tapered is not difficult to figure out. What was the purpose in removing this part in the first place?

    • @BobFowlerWorkshop
      @BobFowlerWorkshop  11 місяців тому

      A lot of people have issues with tapered pins. That part doesn't normally need to be removed, but it's in a convenient place to demonstrate. Having said that, lately I have had more than a few machines come in with broken stop motion bushings. This video is more than 2 years old, but go figure! ...

    Gracy looks just like my cat! Thank you for the instruction. I have a singer 1899 - 27, sew's beautifully but I have a clicking noise & I think the shuttle is tipping the plate as I am sewing. Could you please show me how to adjust the shuttle carrier down just a fraction to keep it from clicking. Thank you so much!

    • @BobFowlerWorkshop
      @BobFowlerWorkshop  3 роки тому

      Is it clicking or scraping? If the carrier is bent, it would most likely be contacting in more than one spot... Feel free to email me about this... argosybob@gmail.com

    I've been looking a your videos and find them interesting. I recently added a c 1911 Franklin VS (scarab design) to the stable--in amazing cosmetic condition at an antique liquidation for $25. My first VS. Came with 2 shuttles and some bobbins as well. I seem to think this might closely resemble or be based on a Singer 27?? Not even sure where to start, but would love to see how it works. Thanks for your videos !!

      One of the beautiful things about working on these vintage machines is that once you understand the concept of stitch formation, it's relatively easy to figure out exactly what's going on - and more important - what SHOULD be going on. If you have the service manual for the Singer VS machines, the information contained therein will be of tremendous help in servicing VS machines from many different manufacturers. Some parts may be a little different, and some systems may be a little different, but the concepts are pretty much the same. If you need a Singer VS service manual, drop me an email at argosybob@gmail.com.

      Your best bet is to look on eBay for someone parting out a machine. At least that's a good start. There's probably also a group on Facebook for White enthusiasts.
