This episode is shameful. This program tries to paint her as innocent in a way it wouldn’t do for other suspects. Is it because she is rich ? Is she connected to people on the show? It’s very biased.
If I had to listen to that woman all day, I would vote her guilty of anything so long as it put her somewhere I don't have to see or hear her, ffs...

The term 'refuge' certainly referred to the couple themselves - it was meant to be a refuge for THEM amidst the wildlife - I have no doubt about that.

They destroyed a portion of the rain forest to build that ugly house.

It's very, very common for the wealthy in Central and South America to have armed guards at their homes.
Seems to me the last thing two chronically depressed persons should do is place themselves in total isolation - alone in their heads - and surrounded by people they were afraid of and with whom they had no interaction. Recipe for disaster.
We as observers think so. But,not in their mind...sad
Plus lots of weapons. Only a question of time IMO...
Yup! I suffer through bd depression and it’s weird your mind say isolate but it’s the worst you can do!

The fact that they found her guilty, put her in prison, released her, and then tried her again is incredible to say the least. Whether or not she is guilty, I hope the US doesn't extradite her. The courts had more than enough chances to lock her away.

There is something very wrong in her demeanor, not convincing somehow. Overacting? I think there’s more to this story than she let us know. I don’t think her husband killed himself. I especially liked the way the husband rolled around while showing how John "committed suicide" ... what a CROCK.
I feel sorry for the husband. I don’t feel he got justice. The Dutch experts were paid by the defence team. She was only 80 - 90 lbs in weight, and unwell. How do we know that there was not a 3rd person involved, in a borderless build with a useful pillow.
When people say "the gun just went off" I have a really hard time imagining the physics of that. I am not a gun person but it always seems like a stretch of the imagination to me. In my head, someone or something has to pull the trigger (with saftey off).
Your instincts are correct. I am a gun person and believe me gun companies do extensive tests on misfires with guns, especially dropping one. Its so well tested because any gun company whose gun went off by dropping it and killing someone would be a huge lawsuit. Its tested strenuously and well documented that it doesn't happen. I have never heard of a case where it was positively shown a gun went off by dropping it.
@@TheLochs There are guns that positively went off by accidentally dropping it even killing a person by it. Only the chance (i.e. went off) is very slim.
I gather in the States forensic scientists can work out exactly how many pounds of pressure are needed on the trigger to make the gun fire. I don't think guns 'just go off'.
Jodi Arias kept using the term when describing shooting Travis Alexander. She then shot herself in the foot (pun not intended) by claiming she thought the gun wasn’t kept loaded - but then couldn’t explain why she ran to grab a gun she thought wasn’t kept loaded.

The saddest part of all of this is that people with money who can easily afford to pay for therapy do not resort to it. If traditional therapy doesn't work, there's alternative one... there's always a solution no matter how grim things may look. The thing is that one should keep searching and not give up.
Two of the toughest things to do are 1. Speak "reason" to someone who has a mental illness. 2. Convince a self-made multimillionaire that they aren't always "right" in how they have concluded something.
Yes, but people in such a depressed condition do not think rationally. They are convinced they can’t go on, the world & all who love them will be better without them & nothing can help. Ann probably felt so desperate & helpless. Especially dealing with her own depression. What a sad story all around.
Therapy does not fix brain chemistry. There is not always a solution in science or psychiatry. Unless you have experienced this kind of depression, you can't understand it. I am glad you can't understand it, though. That means you don't have this pain. I pray you never have it.
The thing of it is, is that these individuals feel superior to others and then when life doesn't go their way and their little fake fantasy is exposed to the world then they can't handle it. Gotta stop living in a fantasy land and live in reality. Then your world wouldn't shatter. 😊
Therapy won't make you happy! The biggest mistake all people make is looking around on earth for the meaning to life, when you'll only find it through Jesus Christ. It's why you can seemingly have everything but still be unhappy. Many people go their whole life never finding their reason for being. You can never be truly happy and at peace without the Lord. You will get caught up in all kinds of sin that will eventually take your life. Doctors don't have the answer. Why would you pay a human to sit and listen to you tell them why you're unhappy? So they can stick you on drugs that change your brain chemistry, but never change your outlook on life. That's just foolish! You will only find the answer to life's questions in the Lord. You must be born again, from above. Only here will you find true peace and joy! Jesus is the solution to every problem on this earth. Or you can waste away never being truly happy and dying in your mess. Sad life!
Throughout the video I was starting to get the idea that she was willingly putting him out of his misery that she’s witnessed for so long. They say she wasn’t healthy and on a bunch of medications, could’ve easily been vulnerable to a bad decision and regretted it after the deed was done. Not sure but like many are saying, the whole charade is hard to believe.
I was thinking this too that she was either a willing participant in an assisted suicide gone wrong or she wanted to put him out of misery but created a horrible cover up story.
Yes. Like a mercy killing. But she could have done it somewhere on a hike and then claim they got separated and the body was never found.
As soon as i saw that stacked treehouse, i said ooh yeah that one was crazy😊
It blows me away that people have this much and still are not happy. 400 lamps but they were still miserable
All that extra light, yet still so much darkness…
😂 facts
I was like 400 lamps?? Lol wtf
This is when you have everything.
They both suffered with mental health issues, you think money should fix that? You’ve obviously never experienced it. Now whether she killed him or not, is a different story.
I have never thought I would hear a scenario where money doesn't bring happiness.
They had all the money they needed to live an extravagant life but still they were both depressed even having each other 💔💔
There's a proverb: "Money can't buy happiness". Never heard of it? ;)
Seriously? I thought everybody knows money can't buy you happiness. Yeah, it's great when you have money for everything but if you're depressed, lonely or you're missing something in your life, it won't truly help.
Money equals freedom, but definitely not happiness!
@@lukedahl8502well said! 👏🏻
Come on guys, it's obviously sarcasm. Sheesh
The pillow, the victim wearing earplugs, the position of his body and the placement of the wound seem to indicate he was asleep when shot. Also, the gun has a greater chance of remaining in the deceased's hand if the person was lying or sitting when the gunshot was received, which wasn't the case here. But apparently, we'll never know for sure.
Not true. A 9mm was used and shot at point blank range. Very unlikely the bullet would not have passed all the way through the skull.
Her money saved her! Hiring all those lawyers and experts! And honestly, the government wanted a portion of it too with them multiple trials
And they taxed her $1.8 mil for the jewels.. after I heard that, I knew what the prosecution's motive was.. they were merely am extension of the Costa Rican government...in countries rife with corruption, she could have paid the first time and probably walked free---- but her GREED made her keep fighting... that's what makes me think she really did it... she was GREEDY... that was her motive.. she wanted ALL of that man's money
I just can't believe her!! I think she's smarter than people think.

Don't know why but the way she talks and body language is speaking for itself, that she's guilty in some way.

@@lyndaczika6327the multimillion dollar inheritance for her spouse being deceased
Such a strange story. They built their paradise dream house amidst the jungle, teaming with amazing tropical wildlife, but were unhappy.
Craziest house I've ever seen! Sad and chilling story.
Seems the majority here think she’s guilty. The strange circumstances and her terrible acting seem to indicate that for sure. Those paid experts got her off.
Until you live with depression please don't judge others with the disease.
@@tammypearce7491they were not judging on her depression. @leigh_carmichael did not once mention her depression - Leigh was talking about her body language - which I agree with - she really does appear to be over acting. Now I'll be the first to admit if I'm wrong - some people are quite animated in their mannerisms- but I'm genuinely thinking that if there was nobody around to see her, would she be acting the same? I don't think so. But I could very easily be wrong of course.

She doesn't have the strength to hold a gun but she has the strength to wrestle for it in such a way to leave scattered and sketchy evidence? Guilty AF but got away with it. Too commonplace.

This was a strange case. From the house, money, lifestyle, the lamps…
For me the biggest hang up is the pillow that looked like it was used as a silencer. How do we explain that away??
Lastly, it’s also terrifying to learn that you can be charged and tried over and over for the same case in Costa Rica.
Also, do people wear ear plugs while committing suicide?
Where was John's family?
Met and engaged in 2 weeks, married in a year.... So, sad and depressed, they moved thousands of miles from "home" only to build a windowless sanctuary or "refuge"??
None of this makes any sense.
Like someone else said.. she likely did do it, or was involved....
20M worth of jewelry?
Even befor we dive into THAT...
Let's take a moment and think about the fact that she's been in and out of prison...3 trials ( 1/3 Guilty) ...hired forensic scientists (2) ... 4 attorneys (2 Uk, 2 US) ...WAIT, 5 ...as one was a local to Costa Rica.
Then.... Snatched that passport and fled break to the "Land of thr Free"... Managed to pay 1.3M to get her jewels returned. So she can get her life back ...
The next boyfriend better watch out!
She’s guilty 100%. SMH.
I agree
Totally agree, it is a creepy woman!!
yes, she is. There is NO plausible explanation to support the way that poor guy died. She got off scot free. I didn't fall for the tears either. Tears are some women's get out of trouble card and it typically works on weak men.
I am left-handed, and I use my right hand as a dominant hand when shooting. I don’t agree with the fact that a left-handed person could not use a right hand in a situation like this.
Funnily enough I am right handed but shoot left handed.
Im right handed but use my left hand as a dominant hand when playing pool. So I kinda agree...
But I just find it hard to believe someone committing suicide would shoot themselves at the back of the head. And her testimony saying the gun just went off... As someone who owns multiple firearms most weapons are built well enough and tested by gun makers not to shoot willy nilly. Very hard for me to believe her statement.
@@sb17146 I agree.
I find it insane that the "experts" didn't even mention that. It goes me on my nerves, when they use that as a 100% proof, that he couldn't have shot himself. Being left handed (or right handed) doesn't mean the other side hand is paralyzed. I don't know if she did it or not, but the left hand argument had too much weight in court.
A picture proof of his gun holstered on the right was enough reasonable doubt for me. Maybe she killed him; maybe she's innocent, but where is motive, why did she stay in CR if she was guilty?
The wrong people get paid in this world. The ones who offer the least, but milk the system the best.
I feel like she probably did it. But I wouldn’t convict her because there is not enough evidence and too many possibilities. It COULD have been suicide but her behavior and the weirdness of it makes me think she did it. Usually when people commit suicide they go somewhere alone. And they don’t lay there either.. especially with someone next to them. But could it have happened, yes. Just wouldn’t feel comfortable putting her behind prison because of that and the lack of evidence.
To be able to be tried over and over again is absurd.
I find her difficult to believe, aside from her manipulative act on camera. The path of the bullet and the fact that she says it was dark and yet she could see the impression of a gun, and doesn't know how it went off because she didn't think anyone was holding it, really tickles my spidey senses. P.S. because CR has no double jeopardy rule, that's not paradise.
Impression of a dark gun. I have a similar item (old bb gun) and in the dark it is hard to see it
Did you notice, how the first reference she made to what she saw and what happened in that dark bedroom was to the trigger? Then swiftly corrected it to gun. I think she was holding the trigger and that was why it was salient.
@@user-nx5ws7rf2fYes, and her hand movements indicated something larger than a trigger, no congruence to what she was saying.
Remember that she lived in a glass house. Even in the dark you can have some moon shine, more than enough to see a little

That tells you that money can't buy happiness..
And psychiatric drugs mask the symptoms, they don't address the problem.
There is still a really bad stigma associated with getting psychiatric help and medicine, even in the USA. It’s really sad!!

The one question that is bugging me is, usually people who commit suicide do it away from people not in front of them. It’s usually done in private so no one can stop them I’m assuming.
My brother came back from Iraq and shot himself in the head in front of his kids and wife. He wanted to cause them trauma and admitted this in a letter.
