Your a gifted story teller & lore master friend. Don't know how far away it is, but i'm very excited for when you delve into the archdevil's & their roles in the Hell's. Here's to a bounty of subscribers & patrons, your talents worthy of it.
As a new dm that is obsessed with the lore of this world there is no greater teacher than riches and liches! Actually found you when I became interested in liches for my campaign. That was days ago and I have been writing furiously since finding your channel.
I found this channel last summer, and I've got to say the effort and passion is very noticeable. I recently started DMing at a table with a couple friends and some of the content here has given inspiration for content at the table. Keep up the amazing work for as long as you can!
Ive discovered this channel a few days ago and i still can't believe the amount of effort you put in your research! With each video i learn something new about a monster or a region that could be in my next campaign, keep up the good work sir!

I really enjoy the length and the expansiveness of the videos you make. Great work as always! Thank you for all this great lore and storytelling!
I'm really appreciating these videos and the obvious hard work you're putting into them. I really love how you present stuff like it has bias from in-world views/authors and how the earliest lore is going to be all wish-washy and vague just like our own.
Oh, I would believe the hours you put into research. That, good sir, is why I watch channels like this one. There are too many sources for D&D lore for your average player or DM to get their hands on and digest. You do this so I don't have to, and I am very grateful.
Great content! Really enjoyed the video. As far as length, I'd say you're right in line with many quality content creators in realizing that long length of video is not a bad thing. Ive always found short videos to be frustrating and like videos to be at least an hour in length. Keep up the good work! I'm here for it.
Please never stop being this level of detailed. You're quickly becoming my new favorite channel. I am dangerously close to joining Patreon for the first time.
Super kind of you to say, thanks so much! I have only gotten a little pushback on me talking too much and I do need to find a comfortable level... That said, comments like these really help reinforce my style, so thank you! To be fair, the Patreon is a little light on content this month (which is why i am so appreciate of those that support me regardless!) but I have some truly grand plans for the remainder of the year with a littany of homebrew creations and images. That said, I appreciate your words and eyeballs watching my content regardless of you joining patreon... but maybe at least keep an eye on it for when i am really proud of it! lol :)
@RichesandLiches that level of honesty about the level of content if really cool. Let's just say that in a few months don't be surprised if you have a hefty new donor lol! You don't talk too much at all. I REALLY enjoy your story videos a lot. I just watched your newest video and then went back and watched the Pit Fiend one as well. These are SO good. I'm really really looking forward to more of the story videos. Especially if you end up taking requests for monsters to be used for them. Also, your reply game is strong. It's really really fun being able to actually talk to you.
Interacting with the community is one of the core reasons I created the channel so I do not see my interaction level changing (although I concede as the audience grows, my coverage ability will fail me!)
At some point, I would to hear your rundown of the “almost devils” with home brew lore… I am sure you could come-up with some unique ideas just like you have planned for the stitched devil. This was a master class of lore you released here!
11:09. Rich, I probably heard you wrong or misunderstood but Hellwasps have been updated for 5e if you are looking for their stats. Decent into Avernus pg. 236. Although the 5e description is no where near as detailed as you description. Thanks for another great video. I love this series and the entire channel. Please keep up the great work.
They are coming! :) The complete hierarchy of hell is a monster and I am trying to wrap up a script. Also have two others in the works: The Descent to Avernus story A lore profile on Avernus
Congratulations for the outstanding episode. I have an obsession with Infernal lore and found this episode comprehensive and informative. I’ve overlooked much of the content because I assumed it was insignificant. I have to admit that I was wrong in many cases.
I’ve been trying to do a bunch of research on the 9 Hells for a character I’m making that grew up there and this series has been insanely helpful. I’ve especially loved hearing about all the different devil types and I can’t wait for the next volume
Check out the brimstone angels series of dnd novels. One char lorcan is a cambion who literally was born to an eyrines and raised in malbolge, the 6th layer I think.
Man I've been loving your videos. I think I was maybe one of your first 1000 subscribers. I get the whole not sacrificing quality for time restraints, but you just spent the first 15 minutes of this video talking about everything except the 9 Hells 😂
This is certainly a great question and this is something I continually wrestled with. Truth be told, the shorter the video, the faster its done so I am not opposed to excluding information but feel like it is required to properly frame such heavy content. However... I would TRULY like input on what parts of those first 15 minutes were uneeded. 1. Defining and outlander vs outsider and why volume 6 would only cover 23 of the 50+ devils 2. Providing the list of devils that are not covered for world builders to review 3. Understanding that just because the devil is not in a 5e resource does not mean the devil is extinct. I look foward to any and all feedback and I might put out a poll or just question in the community tab to solicit more feedback! Thank you for sticking around, the kind words and the critique, I take all feedback seriously.
Your videos are all really good, was super excited when I saw it pop up today! Thanks for all the time and care you put into them; they're invaluable for helping me learn lore for dming my ongoing game.
I love reading comments like this! The D&D community is amazing and anything i can do to help new DMs and world builders makes my work well worth the effort!
I prefer the Abishai being separated from the hierarchy. It never made much sense to me, with how separate Tiamat is from the Archdukes, that Her servants would just be one of the rungs on the ladder to Pit Fiend.
as someone who is self-teaching how to produce a 2D animation, i 100% feel your pain on the comment about the amount of hours invested. Its even crazier if youre on the learning curve. But like, what are my other options? Socializing and networking with other like-minded people to shave literal weeks or months off of my project time? Kidding aside I genuinely love my self driven projects because im unaccountable lol.
All true and great feeback. If someone would of told me it would take me - LITERALLY - 60-80 real working/timed hours to produce some of my longer videos (like Nine Hells 6 and Baldur's Gate 1 Story come to mind) I would never believe you. The production time of a video has both given me a new level of respect for content creators that do not mail it in and do research (as opposed to "reading" lore from a website or book). And you have to love it... no way to do it long term if you do not have the passion. Ironically I know there are other "genres" where I could net more subs but THIS is what I love and that is not changing. Thanks for the feedback and dialogue! :)
@RichesandLiches your time investment is worth it, and I'm excited to see what you make in the future. I consume a shit ton of long-form fiction content and your work comes across as professional, and if you told me you had a bunch of people helping you pull this all together I'd have believed you with the output generated. It's a shame that like, 3 months of work can be consumed in brief moments, but you're providing this really cool content to a large audience so I guess it balances out lol.
Hey Rich idk if you've seen it due to it being released under the radar but wotc released an adventure set in the 9 hells that has a bunch of devils reintroduced for 5e
@RichesandLiches I have seen a bit of it and plan to potentially run it as a sort of part 2 of a planescape campaign. It seems quite cool. It has maps of all of the layers of bator as well as some locations. Its not an ultimate guide with all the lore and stuff but i think its cool.
I hear you... I really thought the death match would get a lot of traction but sadly it did not do as well as most other videos. That is not to say I wont do more, but they are one of the most complex videos to produce. I will do at least one more to see how it goes now that the channel is growing, so we shall see. Thanks for the comments and watching!
@@RichesandLiches please do more death matches!I love the creativity in your storys.I saw the only two death match videos you have made and loved it!but I have been wishing you do more.Recomendetion do a death match video every month so you can keep doing your lore videos.Your channel is very good.
When in doubt, 2e and 3e lore is not only superior, but much more extensive, particularly on anything pertaining to the outer planes. Which makes sense given the sheer expanse and depth of original Planescape. I'm personally partial to 3/3.5 lore for the planes themselves due to the two fantastic fiendish codices among other books, while preferring 2e for Sigil (particularly the Factions) and the Outlands.
Maybe you could just move Tiamat and her abishai elsewhere, perhaps Acheron. They fly, so they'd enjoy a great advantage over the forces of Gruumsh and Maglubiyet.
Well one thing I know there was one guy who started it all but it seems that Beelzebub and asmodeus kicked him out his name Lucifer maybe that's why in the story of D&D asmodeus is the new landlord of nine hells and once a giant snake origins fighting jazarian but before that he was human I guess Lucifer was too dark enough DND at that time so they had to abolish just want to know about the true origins on why
Yes Lucifer was one of... if not the, first retcon thanks to the satanic panic of the early 80s. Definitely worth covering with its own video at some point. Great comment, thank you!
I own the rights to all the art that is not labeled/credited in the videos via a commerical license to make it, but I dare not tread on the ground of artists and claim I "made" it. That said, I do strongly advocate for a portion of the hefty annual price I pay (four figures) to be directed to the many artists who inspired the work, something the courts will have to decide. I know its a touchy subject, but I made the decision that I would not run from it and I respect any and all who choose to not watch or support my channel because of it. The technology is not going away, so I have chose to embrace it. I believe this is very similar to the internet of 35 years ago and the printing press before that... in the history of mankind technological progress has never been stopped and only barely slowed. Although I agree and would support the adaptation of new laws that need to and will change, hopefully for the benefit of all. I am also committed - as the channel grows and I can accommodate - to the future prioritizing, crediting and paying any artists that wanted the exposure on the channel. Black abishai .blue abishai. White abishai Green abishai. Red abishai cover all of them in a separate videos? Merregon and Narzugon cover those two in your video please also please cover Orthon?
I just covered the abishai in volume 6... not sure about separate videos for each. However all the others are coming in volume 7 as they are part of the infernal hierarchy!
You missed Ayperobos. A "promotion" (dead end) for Lemures created by Baalzebul. Ayperboses exist outside the typical infernal hierarchy, having no station or position within it.
@namelesssomebody2557 I was waitng for someone to call that fiendish swarm out. I left them off because I did not see them having any hierarchical standing, thinking they were an outsider at best (which I believe I listed in one of the outlander devil videos). However, I did not know that the Ayperobos were a promotion within Baalzebul's domain, so I have learned something new! Would you care to share your source for that info? Either way, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
@@namelesssomebody2557 Wow OK... before your comment I would have said I have that book 100% memorized... obviously not :) Clearly missed the Maladomini connection. Thank you.
@@RichesandLiches oh, I mean the ability to speed up or slow down a video’s play back. Most video could be played up to 2x the original speed or slowed to about 1/2. A lot of videos no longer seem to have that.
Piece of advice, the first 15 minutes need to be cut. Imagine every video will be the viewers first and only video the will watch. I signed up for the nine hells, sorry but I really don’t care about a peek behind the curtain on what you’re planning to make in future videos. I’d rather just wait and find out when they drop and my algorithm serves it up
You are correct and it is a lesson learned. Unfortunately editing an existing video in that way is not possible without a new upload. As the channel progresses, I do plan to make remasters that will shorten/cut the long intros of some videos, but until that happens just know that moving forward those long intros will not be included. Thanks for the feedback.
I told myself when I started this channel that I wanted to interact and learn from the community... and doing that MUST include hearing and considering any "non troll" criticism. It does not always feel good, I think it is human to "want" to be in an echo chamber with only the good feedback but that does not help me improve and never came into this effort thinking I knew it all... And you are right, the intros on those old videos are too long and you are not the first to mention it. It was a sincere but misguided attempt to connect with the audience, but its placement at the beginning only serves to turn people away. There are better ways to connect with the audience that i am working on (channel update volumes that can be skipped by those that do not care and/or placing updates at the end of the videos. Truth be told, I do the same thing when I watch videos... yet somehow thought I was different? :) So thank you, sincerely. I am working on Forgotten Realms Volume 3 right now and I think you will find this is no longer an issue moving forward.

Where's volume 7?
Its in the works, but still a few weeks away. With the (American) holiday, it will likely be January.
You missed Ayperobos. A "promotion" (dead end) for Lemures created by Baalzebul.
Ayperboses exist outside the typical infernal hierarchy, having no station or position within it.
@namelesssomebody2557
I was waitng for someone to call that fiendish swarm out.
@RichesandLiches source is the
DUNGEONS & DRAGONS LORE wiki which cites Fiendish Codex II: Tyrants of the Nine Hells for D&D 3.5

Wow OK... before your comment I would have said I have that book 100% memorized... obviously not :)
Clearly missed the Maladomini connection. Thank you.
If you control this, please activate speed control
Not sure what the request is here, feel free to elaborate. Either way thanks for checking out the video!
@@RichesandLiches oh, I mean the ability to speed up or slow down a video’s play back. Most video could be played up to 2x the original speed or slowed to about 1/2. A lot of videos no longer seem to have that.
Wish someone would do lore deep-dives on Baldur's Gate 3 to enhance my game enjoyment. Just sayin. ;0)
We have two so far :)

Sorry man I was having a rough day. Came back here to delete it. Appreciate the work and it’s solid content.
So thank you, sincerely. I am working on Forgotten Realms Volume 3 right now and I think you will find this is no longer an issue moving forward.
Too much introduction talk...kept skipping ahead to get to the ACTUAL info
Great job you enRiched my devil knowledge
