- This is a very important tip for anyone using a Petsafe 5 Meal Automatic Pet Feeder. I've found that sometimes I'll set a feeder up and it won't dispense the food correctly. If this is the only feeder you're setting up for your cat (or dog) while you're away, they could end up going hungry if that happens. This is a great tip as it just happened to me this weekend. Thank goodness I put some dry biscuits in the biscuit feeder next to it. This feeder is excellent though...I put a dry ice pack underneath and put wet food in the first 2 and 2 frozen ones in the last two feeders. As J.F. pointed out the 1st feeder is empty usually so it's really for 4 feeds. Used it many times when we go away for the weekend. I'm sure the cat sits in front of it and waits for it to go around!

It just struck me that the product name is a little misleading... It's only a 5-meal feeder if you intend to feed the cats just as you're setting it up. If you leave between meal times, that's a 4-meal feeder only ;).
J.F. Richard if cats are trained to eat at 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. it could be that some cats would not eat the food in the first container until the appropriate time. Each owner would have to check out what their cat would do in that regard.

Would using the "manually advance" button work the same as going in and adding then deleting a test time?

My daughter purchased one of these bc she travels a lot. She loves it but says Lagertha is constantly trying to break into it even when it is empty LOL
I've heard that some cats do that and I guess I've been lucky that these cats, especially Boo, haven't tried that yet. :)
I had this problem when I was cleaning two feeders at the same time and I accidentally swapped trays. Maybe the trays are dedicated to each unit. Nothing I tried could readjust the feeder but after I swapped the trays back it worked as good as before.
Does yours ever rotate twice when the timer goes off. Mine does that every day and I have to keep correcting it so it doesn't skip a dish.

These feeders are crap. They lose alignment and can't be fixed. This vid is wrong.
I have been using 4 of these feeders for 6 years now. There is no issue with alignment when used and set up correctly. When set up incorrectly, and there is an alignment issue, it can easily be fixed. The video is correct. Your comment is wrong.
@@LuckyFerals well hell, where you at? Maybe you could come over and fix mine. I've tried everything. Set up to the instructions. Watched this video. Followed it exactly, still out of alignment. Used to work perfectly. I'm open to any suggestions.
push the tray down so it’s sitting correctly on the base and then turn it clockwise to click it into alignment. close the top to make sure its aligned. test it by pressing the button on the right which will turn the feeder tray forward.
@@LuckyFerals well, I appreciate it and just tried. I aligned it going clock wise and noticed when it turns, it aligns then the motor shifts backwards and throws it off. Weird. I've tried everything. New batteries. Thanks for the suggestion though. I think I need to buy a better feeder. I hate to think of my cat not eating when I'm gone...
