We just (August 10, 2019) sang this with the Berkshire Choral International in Prague under the direction of Heinz Ferlesch and it is simply extraordinary. Every choral singer in the world should sing this once before they die. Seriously.

This is an amazing piece, and recording. I had the good fortune to perform it in October 2015, and the arc of the piece is completely perfect. What a piece! Thanks for sharing this fabulous performance of it.
If I had not been told that this was Dvorak, I would never have guessed, having listened to many of his other works over 50+ years. Thank you for opening my ears to another aspect of Dvorak's genius.
Bravo et quel plaisir de savoir que nous allons (le Choeur symphonique de Montpellier) donner ce Stabat Mater le 20 mars à Montpellier (Église Sainte-Thérèse Avenue d'Assas)
Oh thanks so much for posting this! I've loved this since I heard the Eja mater as background to a stupid tv show when I was a kid. From those wrenching harmonies of the opening to its blinding transfiguration at the end, and that wild Amen, I was riveted throughout. Reading along with the text felt almost intrusive, like interrupting the composer at his private devotions. It made my heart burn, just like the poem says.
Above all, let me congratulate to those who edited these extraordinary images: never before seen something alike filming a classical orchestra ( of course, it's a musical masterpiece and sublimely erformed )
This work first crossed my path in 1979 when I was a chorister (with tenor/counter-tenor Paul Flight) at Asylum Hill Congregational Church in Hartford, CT. It has since been a favorite though I have never had the opportunity to perform it again. There were only a couple of recordings available then and they weren't very good. This performance, amongst many fine versions that have appeared in 30+ years since, is now my "go to" choice because it is, in my opinion, nearly perfect. Even the couple of places where I disagree with tempo choices (Virgo virginem plangere, too fast I think; final a capella statement of Quando corpus morietur, too slow) there is still that voice in my musical heart and soul that says "so what? It is beautiful and proper and edifying and your opinion matters little in the face of such glorious worship." Since 2003, listening to this work on Great and Holy Friday (I am Eastern Orthodox) has been my custom. Today it was especially lovely. Followed it with Tavener's Lamentations of the Mother of God, completely different but utterly complementary works! Thank you, mikabrains.
mastersinger47 Paul Flight... have heard that name here in Berkeley, because he directed a chorus group, Chora Nova. I'm singing Stabat Mater tenor with another chorus group: Berkeley Community Chorus & Orchestra. 230 of us having our passage through this work. It's a beautiful, touching expression. My first experience of Stabat Mater.
@@risili5446 Yes I knew Paul was in the Bay Area for a number of years, but I've lost track of him in the past few years. In addition to the youth chorus, he was also in an a capella male vocal ensemble, and also did Akhnaten with the SF Opera, IIRC. Far more successful than I, I did radio for 35 years and conducted church choirs and sang barbershop. :)
Amazing is the word! I love Stabat Matar and this Orchestra and Conductor have done justice to this remarkable piece of music written first in 1590 by Palestrina! Video visuals were super!
Movement number 10: Quando corpus moreitur Fac ut animae, donetur Paradisi gloria. Amen. Singing this last movement makes singing the preceding movements worth all of the effort. It is absolutely triumphant.

This is one of the best work that was really composed due to sadness and it really is very moving. Thanks for this HD upload, much appreciated. Wow, amazingly performed!!!! Beautiful beautiful. I loved those extra seconds in silence at the very end. I always feel that this pieces need to be acompanied by images, images of paintings depicting each of the moments.
I have (as far as I know) never heard this before. I was driving from a work interviews, just a few days ago, and the UK Radio 3 played this...well, what could I do? I had to buy the album, of course! What a delightful time listening to the whole piece.
Right-- there's a recording of Jansons with these soloists . Pretty much the best interpretation within the last 10-20 years. People also love the old Kubelik recording with this same orchestra, but it's always left me a bit unmoved.

I find this humorous only because years ago as a younger man with little knowledge of music like this, Stabat Mater was my introduction to Dvorak.
Superbe interprétation OUI, et magnifique captation son et image. Bravo !

Just out of curiosity, can you put into words what it is you like about this piece? Any certain parts? The theme?
+jugghayd the pervasive sadness.
+jugghayd i like it because i sing it with my choir. especially beautiful is part VII.

Sweet, gentle, forceful, dynamic, cascading, circular, step climbing, repetitious, danceable.
