Also a smaller Redfin probably would struggle with a yabby wouldn’t it? Like maybe the reason it had all those yabbies, because it could at least get them in it’s mouth being a bigger fish
That takes me back to the mid 70's on the Mitta River just out of Mitta, guaranteed a good feed of big reddies. At least the bones were easy for us boys to find ourselves. Another good video mate. 👍🐕🤠
Very nice fish robbie, sometimes those long fish can be quite skinny but this one was in damm nice condition. Very nice fish. But unfort the magic number us reddie hunters chase is 50cms. For ages no one thought they got that big... (not me-I know better.. lols. I know they get over 60cms in size...)My Pb is 1.9kgs, never measured the length as we chased state records back then and never measured length. But I have seen some fish that would make your jaw drop... Keep hunting them, there are some true monsters out there in OZ where our water doesnt cool down like the Euro lakes that freeze do, and they are pulling out fish at the 50cms size range.. Ours grow faster. So if you can find a spot that is untouched or find that smart old monster somewhere, keep that fish and put it on ice uncleaned and weigh it for a state record, you would be shocked how light some of the records are. Anything close to 50cms on very light line will break a state record. Best of luck mate from here in SA.😁

Like you, they were measured on scales and not tape measures back then. Haha I would love to catch a 5lb redfin.
Those reds were nothing to sneeze at! Do you think it'd be worth dropping a trap in for some shrimp? You could use them for bait, or if you get enough you could have a feed.

What a great catch! Doing better than I did yesterday! Nothing but eels and tripping over the same tree stump at least 7 times not to mention the unfrcasted 50mm rain in 10mins 😁 lol I not sure what I love more, the adventures or the fishing! Haha One thing I notice about your waterways though is that you've got a much wider area to the creak channels than us especially after the floods, our creek's are 12-14ft wide 1ft deep untill the middle meter then it drops down by up to 1m, so many snags I've often wanted to go down with a grappling hook and clean up a bit but apparently that's illegal... I'm not sure I'd trust those scales! It definitely seemed bigger than 1kg? I'd definitely be keeping that spot a secret for a while 😂 Awesome job mate 👍
