- Astronaut and Saab chief test pilot Marcus Wandt meets Jessica Meir and Christer Fuglesang for an exciting discussion about life in space. It is the first time all three Swedish astronauts have met since Marcus returned from the International Space Station. We see the trio discussing their space missions, sharing their most memorable experiences, talking about the differences between traveling in a Dragon capsule, Soyuz rocket, and space shuttle, and revealing the most common question astronauts get.

Now when we have so many astronauts, including with Buzz Aldrin until now, why not expand Esrange Spaceport in Sweden, it's official it may be the first in Europe to launch satellites, but why not also send up people from there.
The location is limited for polar orbits and not acceptable for equatorial orbits. For instance, it’s virtually impossible to reach the international space station by launching from there. Besides, flying in a southeasterly trajectory, the launch vehicle can’t drop its spent stages, a potential external tank or strap-on boosters over any sparsely polulated areas.
@@Tramseskumbanan This area is very sparsely populated and there is two oceans nearby. They are already sending satellites into orbit to positioned orbit near ISS from Esrange.
@roxpace Far from it. Not even close. Besides, Bottenviken is not an Ocean and the Arctic Sea is to the north of the base.

@roxpace Esrange is usable ballistic shots, polar LEO and sun- synchronous orbits only. Reaching the international space station is simply not an option. The station reaches at its maximal northern inclination the southern part of Sweden, several hundred miles south of the base. The booster would require vast amounts of extra propellant in order to change its inclination and trajectory that much during flight, not mentioning the extra 1200-1500 miles/h it would have to compensate for considering its arctic location with respect to the earth rotation. It would also require down range safety over several countries such as Finland, the Baltic states and even Russia.

Jessica Meir is of direct Swedish descent. Marcus Wandt is a Swedish test pilot and member of the 2022 European Space Agency Astronaut Group. He became the third Swedish astronaut to visit space and is an astronaut by the accepted definition of an astronaut. Christer Fuglesang is a Swedish ESA astronaut.
Jessica Meir has Swedish citizenship, as well as US citizenship. She's Swedish.
