🐒 I BOUGHT A CRAZY ROAD LEGAL RALLY CAR! NEXT LEVEL PEUGEOT 205 GTI
Peugeot 205 GTI Info:
The 1.6 litre GTI was launched in 1984, and came with a XU5J engine, producing 105 PS (77 kW; 104 hp), for the 1987 model year the XU5J received the cylinder head with larger valves thus becoming XU5JA. The new engine was quoted for 115 bhp (86 kW; 117 PS). The 1.9 litre GTI came with an XU9JA engine producing 128 PS (94 kW; 126 hp), although later models with a catalytic converter produce 122 PS (90 kW; 120 hp). Internally these engines are very similar, the main differences on 1.9 litre versions being the longer stroke, oil cooler, and some parts of the fuel injection system. The shorter stroke 1.6 litre engine is famed for being revvy and eager, while the 1.9 litre feels lazier and torquier. Outside the engine bay the main differences between the 1.6 GTI and the 1.9 GTI are half-leather seats (1.9 GTI) vs. cloth seats (1.6 GTI); and disc brakes all-round (1.9 GTI) vs. discs at the front and drum brakes at the back (1.6 GTI); as well as the 14-inch (360 mm) alloy (Speedline SL201) wheels (1.6 GTI) vs. 15-inch (380 mm) (Speedline SL299) alloys (1.9 GTI).
The 205 is still often treated as a benchmark in group car tests of the newest GTI models or equivalent. Peugeot itself has never truly recreated this success in future GTI models, although they came very close with the highly regarded GTI-6 variant of the Peugeot 306. A cabriolet version of the 205, known as the CJ/CT/CTI, was designed and partially assembled by Pininfarina of Italy. The CTI version offered the same plastic arches and wheels as the 1.6 GTI. Some later models incorporated the catalysed 1.9-litre engine.
Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9
The main aesthetic difference between the GTI/CTi versions and other 205 models were the plastic wheel arches and trim, beefier front and rear bumper valances. The shell also underwent some minor changes, including larger wheel arches (to suit the larger wheels on the GTI and CTi), and the suspension was redesigned and sat lower on the GTI with stiffer springs, different wishbones and a drop-linked anti-roll bar.
With the early success of the 205 GTI in Europe, Motor Trend reported in 1984 that Peugeot was seriously considering adding it to its US lineup, even though Peugeot had a more upmarket image in the United States.[citation needed] Nothing ever came of such rumours, however, and any talk of Peugeot expanding its presence in US became moot when the company was forced to pull out in 1991.
Sales of the GTI in the United Kingdom in the early 1990s were badly hit by soaring insurance premiums, brought about by high theft and 'joyriding' of cars of this sort. Increasingly stringent emissions regulations meant the 1.6 GTI went out of production in 1992, while the 1.9-litre was sold for a couple more years thanks to re-engineering of the engine to enable it to work properly with a catalytic converter, which dropped power to 122 PS (90 kW; 120 hp).
In October 2020 Peugeot announced that their heritage brand "l'Aventure Peugeot" would make a factory restoration program for the 205 GTI available in 2021 as part of the company's 210th anniversary celebration.[11] This program is intended to be expanded to other Peugeot (and possibly Citroën) models later, but will begin with the 205 GTI as it is one of the most desirable Peugeot built that is also available in large numbers. The cars will be restored to as-new condition, with certain no longer available parts being made on 3D-printers.
The styling of the 205 is often thought to be a Pininfarina design, although Gerard Welter claims it is an in-house design; Pininfarina only styled the Cabriolet.[3] It is often credited as the car that turned Peugeot's fortunes around. Before the 205, Peugeot was considered the most conservative of France's "big three" car manufacturers, producing large saloons such as the 504 and 505, although it had entered the modern supermini market in 1973 with the Peugeot 104.
State of the UK roads everyone needs a rally car
No joke. This winter has done a number on our roads, like way more than I've ever seen before. You can tell our economy is ready to collapse, they can't afford to fix anything lol
The roads are fekkin brutal mate. Like driving in a war zone! Craters everywhere 😭
This is so true mate😂😂
Here here.since covid the roads are shat.wifes tiguan and my audi has broken 3 springs.me and my dad are thinking of making a lift kit plus 306 td springs for my diesel 205 and a nice set of nobbly tyres for touring about in.people laugh at me but thats where were heading.its gonna be like mad max out there soon.
@@turbowank16v buy an old Toyota Pick up mate they are cheap and fun.
Any Pug fans in the house?🙊 I know you guys have been keen to see a 205 GTI for a while, hope this does the job🙏 Hope you love the video homies & homettas, more Pug action coming up shortly👍 Also bought a new main channel car to replace the M3, you guys are gonna be happy that's all I'm gonna say🍌😜 Peace to all, andddd don't forget to like / share / comment yo! Peace ML🐒
I had a 1.6 gti 205 in the 90's , bilsteins, cam, ported head, larger throttle body, chipped...was a very quick little thing, had about 140 bhp
@that_405_guy on Instagram
You could do a meet up with Frank Kelly and his crazy Mk2 Escort.
I had a 309 mi16 back in the day miami blue, no power steering was beautiful
Similar spec to my 306 gti6, that's a jenvey/longman manifold, stock gti6 manifold, will have a set of cams it's running over 200 👍
The sun is out, I've just had a nice dog walk and I get home to this. I feel like it's my birthday. Cheers ML 🤘👌
Perfect end to a good day by sounds of it! Much love brother!
Rally it for sure. Everyone would love to see some rally content
1:15 i love how small it is 😂
Mad isn't it compared to new cars! 😜
That's not what she said.
Been looking forward to this one!!! The 205 is the popular choice for road rallying in this area
Yasss! Love me some Peugeot 205’s! ..and the 106 🥺 Happy to see one of these cars being appreciated on UA-cam.
I didn't know you liked this little cars Sarah, but if an almost 500 hp LC500 got two beans in your review, this one wouldn't get half 🤣🤣🤣
Hey Sarah could u try and share some of Monky Londons videos with some of your friends in the states? His channel like yours is brilliant, he puts out the best car content
Check out the 106 on our channel ;)
The saxo vts to!!
My first car was an 1l6 16v, a real karting 🤩
My ass moves at 9 thousand rpm
I have 206 s16, very first model, made April 1999.........
20+ years and still puts a big smile on your face
!
Been craving rally content! 🤞🏼
Love how the mic has been stuck on the first letter on the number plate covering it up 😅😂😂👀
John's a sneaky fu ker 🤣
Even though its displayed clearly on the front. John ain't got nothing to hide. He's done nothing wrong.
@@gonzomason1490 not so sure looking at the driving ...
@@Monk-Darlington I've not seen a speedo reading so...
@@gonzomason1490 just looking it's clear he's speeding, crossing solid white lines and handbreak turns are all frowned upon and kind of dumb on public roads tbh.
You’d love road rallying!! All through lanes, farms, etc etc in the middle of the night. Best sport in the world👌🏽
Absolutely mental little machine, love it 😂🔥
Super stealthy for a bit of John action 😂
I'd rather have that than a modern day hot hatch more fun 😁
Had a GTi6 a few years ago, fantastic engine and feedback made it a fantastic drivers car.
Apart fae the colour it's a 10👍🏻, need to see it hit a track or hill climb dude If in doubt 🤙🏻
It deffo stands out, just like my pink Escort 😂🙏 Much love bud thanks for tuning in!
@@monkylondon was going 2 say need 2 get both of them together for a retro shoot 📷 ✌🏻
I don't know why I read this as "see it hit a tractor" was thinking what's this fucking nutcase on? 🤦♂️🤣
@@Matty.Hill_87 pmsl
Love it!😎😎😎 Back in the day, I remember people sticking the engine out of the Mi16 on big carbs into the 205. Sounded epic!
My mate who does my plumbing has one, its road registered rally spec in the Scottish highlands. Took my car for mot today and the owner of the garage has one as well what's the chance of that happening!!
That's the most badass car commercial I've ever seen.
Isn't it just 🤝😂
Full Rally Send !!!
I Love the gritty engine noise these older N/A Rally cars produced!
The xu10 lump is absolutely fabulous in these things, with a set of Jenveys like that it's pure heavenly sound. Satchel shift as well is THE best gear shift you can have in a 205 without going full sequential.
Get yourself out on the new asphalt rally championship in the UK, that looks like a proper tarmac weapon. You'll need a proper harness bar added to the cage though.
What suspension is it running? Seen a few turret the rear end but a set of 3 way Riegers are spot on for the rear end
Gaz adjustables at the back and Bilsteins up front bud 🙂
I watched this while scoffing a king prawn Biryani, delicious food and car !!.👍👍🇬🇧
I worked with the original owner/builder of this car a few years ago at Ktec racing. You could always hear him on his way into the office. Guy could pedal as well as build a car.
You couldn’t of picked a better tune for this video Prospa - the thrill is a banger 👌🏼💥
Ive never looked at your subscriber count before I assumed you had a lot more !contents lit 🔥 always johns a certified savage 👌
Great video content like always Mr ML👌...these little cars are so much fun to drive even in stock form, had a 205 1.6 gti and a 106 rallye in my youth, great drivers cars, even by todays standards 👍...I would defo love to see this AMAZING little snot rocket and john on a hill climb...MAKE IT HAPPEN!!
Sick, I've got some 205 pepper pot wheels in me shed if anyone's interested, I used to have them on my pug 106 1.1 when I was 18 😂👀, Looked pretty sick tbf
Yes mate I’m interested I just brought my first 106 and was looking for some👍🏻 I’ll give you my email if you are considering selling them.
14:43 Polycarbonate windows aswell....knock knock knock.....Had my headphones on full volume. Just about to have first sip of beer after getting home from work..... 😂😂🤣🤣 Almost sprayed the beer out my nose
The cars epic mate...old pugs are a blast to drive, lift of over steers great for passing cars on the outside of roundabouts. Glad you took it to Mexico to give it the beams. Take it to a rally school and get it on stage
I have a 208 GTi stage 1, non res and forge blow off valve. Fun car when it works exhaust crackles away on changing gear!
You just made a old man very happy John. One of my all time fav cars as a small kid, hooked on motorsports in the 80s. Smashed the Like!!! Before I even watched the video and wasnt disappointed @John.
Much love for the Pug 👌🏻 The 205 was king when I was a youth and getting into cars. My dad drove a 405 and I was hooked on them. Had many over the years and currently pilot a 508 GT. Missus has a 308, quality wagon and love the tiny steering wheel 👍🏻
I wanted one if these so bad, had an xr2i back in the day until it got robbed
15 mins in much love from west Texas. Group B love congrats all the best ❤ I subscribed weeks ago too far and between.
Not groupB. Please don't shoot me.
I've owned a couple of 205 xs a 205gti 1.9 and a 306 gti6 and loved everyone. Wish I had kept them all 💰💰😭 but still got the 1.9 gti 🙈🙊👍🏻
No matter what supercars the other UA-camrs own I doubt they'd see which way this went along the average UK B road. Throttle bodies, max revs, 200+hp and less than 900kg = winning. What. A. Machine.
where is the fun in owning some fancy supercar when you can have an old rally car???
Hate to be pedantic, but the 205s you show at 4:12 are 205T16 rally cars. A different beast altogether at 400+BHP 4wd
Yeah I just thought it was good to show motorsports heritage as forgot to talk about it 😂❤️
How did you get away with lifting off mid corner at 5.23? I was expecting some mighty lift off oversteer there.
I would like to see you doing a rally race or hill climb event in the future.
That original TV advert is amazing!!
How a car advert should look. So sick.....
As Tiff Nedell said of the McLaren once, 'looks a bit skittish.'
Older Peugeot hatches were the best. Pre 206. Things like this car 106, 306, clio 16v, William's and even saxo's in my opinion were a proper hoot to drive like a bit of a dick. I miss the ones I've owned.
I've never been this early :0
John is gonna get busted some day... Stay out of trouble mate and keep rippin'!
@monkeylondon. Was a pleasure to see you and your pug mate.
It's my s14 you trashed and it's new to me and non turbo.
Not sure if you'll see this but that pug is insane
Never owned a Peugeot but did own a Citroen ZX 2.0 16v which was awesome....especially after letting the guys at Skip Brown work their magic
Epic little 80s b road ripper
But Nice blue nissan pulsar gtir in the back ground sick
Deep down we all want a raod-legal rally car
Keep it !!!! Love to see John doing some rally driving 👌🏼👊🏼
That looks like a wild car to drive
Savage as always Monky genuinely the best content on you tube 💪💪
Your such a sick driver bro seriously you should consider competitive driving. I think you’d absolutely smash it. ❤️🚗💨
Man I love old Pugs!!! but then I'm basically a fan of any real shit boxes from the 80s and 90s 🤣🤣
I had that exact version on 1.9. I could not figure out what was wrong with it, so I sold it for 300 bucks. The buyer told me it was the ignition booster, which most cars don't have
That thing is absolutely nutsssss
Perfect for john
Those are proper Jenvey throttle bodies made for that engine. Nice
Takes me back to the good old days definitely need to keep this Weapon Smart thing
I had the 1.6 GTI, man the little pug used to raise its back foot round them corners 😅
What a machine... sounds amazing with the itb's and headers. I'm lucky owner of a phase 1 xsara vts with this engine and even with 390 kg more weight that thing is a blast to drive (stock except a +10hp tune). I plan on taking it to track days once I get it fully serviced, needs cambelt, brakes ect., Luckily the parts are cheap and the car is easy to work on :)
Sick car mate 👌 how do you find it on the throttle bodies? Find it bogs down a bit?
I'd imagine.
Cool car, I'm sure you are aware of this but that harness setup is not safe, you need a harness bar to get shoulder angle within 20 deg.
Sick car man, a true icon. Modern pug’s have been a little underwhelming by comparison. That said I absolutely adore my 208 GTI, a proper drivers car.
Well new 308 Gti is absolutely fantastic car! I own it for nearly 4 years now and never had single issue. Love it! 👌 Long term video on my UA-cam 👍
I belive the group b version there where plans to use an f1 turbo t16 i think ..to boost it to over 600bhp
The shifter is a satchshift had one in my 106 one of the best mods I did to the car nice to see some French on the channel I have had 5 Peugeot 106’s 2 rallyes a gti and a couple of home builds with engine swaps always liked the 205 gti you should look into bringing it to pugfest at Prescott hill climb when it’s next on would be good to see that shredding peaceee 👍🏻.
Old is Gold ..😎😎😘
Love the older Peugeots, new ones are kinda watered down and way heavier. My fav from the old days is probably the 306 GTI. Although I did own a blue 3 door P reg 106 diesel and loved it to bits. Hope you take this one rallying, would love more content of this car.
Well new 308 Gti what I own over 3 years its 1205kg only 🤔.. Long term ownership Video on my UA-cam
That looks prime for the retro rides gathering at Shelsley Walsh in August..... If you have it by then still!
My 205gti was the love of my life! Deffo the car I regret getting rid of. 1.9 mi16 engine and box, 1.8gti none sunroof graphite grey shell on an f reg. Proper fruity machine!
Sounds like a bag of nails revving the knackers off with a misfire is gonna be costly
No missfire pure intake noise
Sounds sweet
You need to do the Donegal Rally ! Proper stages ! That's if we can ever get rid of this pandemic !
G89 OCX was my 2nd car at 18. Red 1.6 205 GTi. Loved that car 😊
I love the way you add the music on the start of ur vids m8, love the monkey business ting !!!!!!!
The gear stick set up looks like a satch shift set up very common on Peugeot rally cars.
Yep, that was what was fitted
Well up for some cheeky rally content!
It definitely needs a ml livery
I love this I had a 1.9 with 45 Webbers and loads of engine work cams ect made 183 bhp.
Stripped caged and quaife diff with bilstien tarmac suspension it was a hoot to drive.
I think I scared the lad I sold it to when I showed him what it was capable of.
Happy memories.
Are you sure that’s John driving and not his rally driving cousin Colin mclondon ? 😂
Damnit!! I miss my 1.9 converted 1.6 in Topaz Blue. That thing was sick with the lower ratios from the 1.6 box.
Looking forward to more hot hatch content 👍
Paint it yellow and slap on a banana with some monkey decals 😂 the Bananarama
Loving the retro rides you been buying lately especially this 💥💥💥 had a series 1 106 rallye had to bin the original engine unfortunately so in went a gti with big valve head and cams on the rallye box all stripped out and it was an absolute hoot had spax nitrogen shocks on it that where sublime. Love your videos every one of them content is spot on vibe is spot on and the tunes are banging 👌
This is f**king sick! Pug gti nom nom hoonage time!
I've got a 208 GTi THP 200 never fails to put a smile on my..... I mean John's face
i had a 208 gti prestige it was that exciting i got shot of it and went back to my 306 d turbo just never felt like you were driving the 208 tbh traction control never turns fully off and the limited boost in 1st and 2nd was kind of pathetic mind you i am a bit of a 306 fanboy lol ive had more fun in the d turbo than i ever did the 208 gti worst car i ever got was 208 gti just never really done it for me i wanted shot of it after 2 weeks lol i think with a intercooler and a big 3076r turbo and a decent diff on it it would be a animal but out the box its just not for me imo.
@@haydensupra the main issue is the standard waste gate they're a plastic diaphragm an release too easy which I've noticed rather a lot of I should hopefully be getting hold of a GFB diverter valve soon which sorts this out. As for tuning an intercooler, panel filter, exhaust and a remap will see 250bhp but if you want to go further than that then its an engine build and you can see north of 300bhp
@@scottmartindale2316 yeah i used to be a apprentice tech at pug i think the main things if i ever had another would be the following upgrades.
the gfb like you have mentioned
ds2500/yellow stuff pads
quife diff the traction is terrible imo
better suspension
intercooler
dump valve
hard pipe kit
bigger turbo
bigger exhaust
the biggest problem is 2nd gear for me in the way they tried to mitigate the wheelspin by limiting the boost till your into 3rd gear 1st gear maybe but 2nd gear should not be boost by gear it really annoyed me that going onto onslips etc.
do you ever get the dab turning the volume down when you have the heaters on full heat mine used to restrict the volume of the radio if i had the heat up cause the screen got to hot used to make me laugh that design flaw you can either have the heater on full or the tunes up full not both lmao.
i have also been in the rcz r 275 hp now that thing is more like it it defo puts a smile on your face what a difference swapping that little tiny turbo out for a decent sized unit makes you defo get the punch from that thing that i think the 208 is badly missing.
the later 2015 models are forged internals from the factory i have seen 350hp plus from them although i would probably just put better forged parts in if i was going to go to that kind of power for peace of mind
@@haydensupra Later models are much better sadly I've got a 2013 THP 200 and yes the lack of a diff is shocking 🤣
@@scottmartindale2316 i defo agree lol should have came with the diff as standard
John was loving the pug
What a car it looks fantastic! I'd like to think all cars have differed a lot from the 80's 90's to the early 20's due to safety requirements so cars will feel heavy & very different from the past & this isn't to do with the manufacturers that's due to the time & safety regulations.
I currently own a 207 gti 175, the car is a lot of fun! And there rally car 207 s2000 has had a lot of great success on the track winning world rally championships.
Appreciated this content and would love to see more!
Mental car ! - Very cool video ! - Bravo ! 👍👍👍
Thanks very much glad you enjoyed it
You must have a seriously funny focus face under that 😎🤣
I own a red , 1.9 gti with a cam and a 1.6 gearbox ... mint condition but i love revving the nuts of it
Loving the video mate and am a madl 205 fan best hot hatch ever made have one my self what am putting a k20 turbo engine in my 205
That advert is so dope!!
Nice one for around £6.000. Guess the person never know how much money is in this motor. 👍💯
Nice had a 1600 205 and bought a 1300 miler 1900 gti swapped it all onto the 1600 different car. Would live another 1
Who ever fitted that "welded" roll cage needs to look into how to fit a roll cage properly .
All about the look(wheels) and power .
Yesssss!!! Monky you Legend!!! Been waiting ages for the next video 🤙🏽 also just received my parcel in the post for purchasing a ticket to the bmw. You nailed the packaging, very nice touch I must say, fantastic work good sir!! Keep up the good shit man! 👌🏽
Sweet! Can anyone tell me what the name of the track at the beginning is?
205 mi16 = weapon. This is next level ‼️Get those monster stickers off and it's 10/10
Love the 205 ,Would look mental with a bonnet light pod
The only thing that appreciates this car more than me is the price climb each year! Grab them while you can haha, can't wait to see what John does in this bad boy :)
I originally tuned this when Paul built it
The launch control used to work, was mentally fast with it working
Love a 205 GTi, max power days and all that. Does anyone remember Ecosse?? Some of the stuff they did was pretty cool
i cant forget peugeot ecosse there a bunch of useless clowns "peugeot specialists" it took them 8 weeks to fit a radiator on my suoercharged gti6 and they also couldnt even fit a replacement earth strap on my d turbo i went out to it and turned the key and dash was like a christmas tree.
Ok When's the raffle lol
Crx next bud, first 205 vs CRX 💪
