The white strip is a plastic strapping band and often used for packing work. In areas with thickness, there may be unevenness at the presser foot, causing the pressure and feed teeth to be less stable than usual. To increase the pressure and stabilize it, we intentionally use PP tape to raise the height of the presser foot. This is also useful for straight guide line. Thank you!!

Light weight iron-on interfacing helps to stabilize the edges, especially on curves, that might otherwise be warped during construction. Part of the same reason for the iron-on interfacing on the front edges.
Pulling a thread shows the true direction of the weave (horozontal or vertical) so you don't accidentally iron it out of shape. Depends on fabric.
