Watched this yesterday and Quynh's fate really left an impression in me. Imagine being trapped alone in a metal box in a cold and dark abyss drowning, suffocating, and dying over and over again for hundreds of years. It is truly terrifying. No amount of torture in the world could ever compare to this. This is the worst possible fate anyone could have had. I'm just glad the end-credit scene happened.
with her wisdom, she would've realised that it will just be a matter of time untill the metal rusts and erodes away, leading to her freedom.

@marcus24000 I can't even really blame him to be honest, I mean, he saw someone who literally could not die, and who freed people he believed to be selling their souls to Satan for power. Would that not be a power someone would sell their very soul to Satan for? Given what he believed at the time, it was the logical conclusion that they were literal devil-worshippers. What other unholy powers might such a person be capable of?
Still HORRIFYING, though. Real nightmare fuel, even for a time period when people were regularly tortured.
It’s a shame this was a movie. It definitely has legs enough to be a high end tv series, but could they afford the actors, namely Charlize.
Charlize is too good to pass.. Must have her in it!
Even if they can afford her money wise, Charlize does a lot of movies. I doubt she'd be willing to be tied down shooting for months every year if it's a series. But I genuinely hope they at least make a trilogy of movies.
Nah.....Netflix doesn't have such a great track record with series....can't even name 5 off the top of my head that are notable imo. I read they have already have plans for 2 more films. I just hope they don't go the predictable route in making Andy's long lost friend their next villain.
That's an amazing idea but perhaps focus on a different old guard from maybe 1592 in the highlands of Scotland that gets mentored by a Spanish samurai with a poor British accent and because its in the highlands you could call it Highlander. ;)

Omg fan theory: their immortality leaves them when their souls no longer wish to survive. Lykon was tired of living and that’s why he died. Andy is tired and that’s why she’s not healing. Quhym was desperate to survive and that’s how she kept living through the torture. Booker wants to survive at any cost even his own comrades. And Nicky and joe keep loving each other which is their key to survival
OMG I am fully gonna support this theory..because that means if Andy can find Nile as her reason to live then her immortality can return! I cannot wait for part 2

Caleb Tyler Moodley he has grief but he still wants to survive as proof by his return to the old guard. And at the moment of his first immortality when he was hung for desertion he definitely wanted to survive

I like it, except that Booker's whole character thing was that he was EXTREMELY suicidal, so much so that he was willing for his family to be tortured just so he could die. I would not call that wanting to survive at any cost

they're probably playing it safe. so, unless the fandom cries out in support and troughs money at the screen it won't get renewed. it usually how this goes for most networks. HBO is one of the few to keep on even when sales are not met because they are one of the few that look long term. Netflix strikes me as the first group.

This movie was f’ing awesome. I can’t wait for the sequel. The lady Q returning at the end was surprising. She spent over 500 years locked in a cage underwater healing and dying in perpetuity. There will be hell to pay for that torture!

I think Q is gonna be a very bad lady when she showed up at booker's place at the end and she is plotting something bad for the next sequel. Its very sad andy lost the immortality, Andy's story reminds me of movie logan its such a painful curse.
It's actually about 270 years but still a lot. I really wanted to murder them who locked her up. (2020-1750=270)
Who else think that Quynh got out because the Iron Coffin she was in simply rusted in the salt water?
Oxygen is also required for the rusting process which in its molecular form would not be found at the bottom of the ocean.
Edit. I have found upon mention, that free oxygen isn't necessarily required for the corrosion process just some oxidizing agents, a lot of metallic salts are oxidizing agents and they are plenty of them in the sea. Apologies for the hasty reply.
Quynh had died many times every hour. Her immortality or healing ability should have ended long time ago. Its like you have 999999 lives but its not infinite.

Charlize is like the female keanu Reeves.. Out of all the female action stars out there, she is definitely the best.. Specially on how she trains for a role.. I hope this would be a trilogy or better yet a bigger franchise..
Quynh's actress also starred in a Wick liked movie too, it's thrilling to watch.
I really liked Charlize's performance in Atomic Blonde, the fight scenes were so good there.
Another actress that I love to watch as an action star is Sienna Guillory. Her role as Jill Valentine was one of the best thing that ever happened in Resident Evil movies. Too bad we never see her again these days commercially.

I was just thinking about Quynh throughout the movie. They say drowning is one of the worst ways to die. And she died that way a thousand times. So sorry for her. Hope she won't be the antagonist in the sequel coz Andy did search for her for decades.

In my years of reading comics i have grown to be very pretentious of what i consume, but this story legit made me go back to my younger self in the sense that it gave me real excitment to just know about the characters and what they will do next, im interested in each and everyone of them.
This is such a simple concept yet so fun, please dont let this franchise be a short one.

This has endless possibilities. They can create a series focusing on each character with their lives from age 20 or something. They could explore Lykon and give more details. Heck, they can include multiple story lines of what happened with their grandchildren from their family centuries back! This is exciting!

i think he was the first immortal in all honesty but lack the leadership that what her name had which is why the stories centers around her. When a new immortal is born another immortal loses their immortality she mention that. Its easy for them to find each other in this day and age but back than traveling on foot, by horse...not likely....hell lykon for all we know could had been around since the beginning of time ...fathom that

This was a surprisingly wonderful film! I love the way Charlize Theron embodies the nuanced weariness and profound sadness of a being who has endured millenia. The relationships and backstories of the different members of the Old Guard are very intriguing and the emotional core of the film. I eagerly await the next chapter, and Quynn's reunion with the group!
I hope this turns into a series after a couple of movies are made. I'd love to to see a back story on Nicky and Joe.

I read up on it by googling "The old guard 2" and seems they already have 2 more films in planning. Not sure if they had started filming before this whole mess happened, or not.

This movie hit me profoundly... hiding, being different, being lonely, feeling countless pain physically/emotionally for yeeeears because of immortality...
This might be the only movie that makes me want to have Prequel and Sequel to be release on the same year.

The Scythians were much later than that so she must have been adopted. I had assumed she was an Amazon/Scythian. She obviously didn't get into the really colourful patterned trousers that Scythians all wore.

So basically if Andy lived in 5000 BCE that means she is over 7k years old and not 6k that they keep saying. Also if Quynh was captured in 1750 that means she is traped under water for exactly 270 years and not over 500 years as mentioned.

Yeah I don't know why they showed 1750 as a date as they explicitly mention that this was in England, where it wasn't punishable by death till 1563 It really had its heyday in the early 1600s with the witchfinder general in 1645-6 (aka the middle of the English civil war) who tried around 300 people. That makes sense as the fever they were going to curb and would be roughly 500 years ago. (also the last witch to be executed in England would be in the 1680s and 1720s in Scotland so 1750 is a weird weird date)

@GABRIEL MOTA the movie is based off a comic by Greg Rucka. In the comicbook Quynh is Japanese and named Noriko. She doesn't get trapped in a box, bur rather falls off a ship, which was changed because of budget constraints. She calls Andy "my heart" and they give the smooches.
The Old Guard would be a great series, limited or otherwise!
It's missing Christopher Lambert, Adrian Paul and especially Peter Wingfield&Sean Connery. The intro monologue even sounds like the Highlander series. Also the most important part is Queen's song "Princes of the Universe" should be blasting in the background as "There Can Be Only One".

i need a full movie of all of their backstories. i dont care how long it would be. A movie to travel through the ages of time and showcase different eras, clothing and wars through the eyes of a group of immortals would be cool as hell. shame they didn't decide to make a movie on the back stories first, the times where the characters would speak about the past felt like the strongest parts of the film for me.
Absolutely... have you read the Old Guard: Tales Through Time anthology? it's a 6 issue series that focuses on individual characters in various points in history. Netflix should really consider adapting it into a 6 episode miniseries, tbh.

She was thousands of meters down. It would've taken hundreds, if not thousands of lives for her to even reach the surface.
So she breaks free after the metal rusts away, then she easily swims from we can assume to be the bottom of the ocean easy peasy despite the pressure that is being exerted on her body?
They are "immortal" not indistructable. She could've died for hundreds of years just from the pressure alone before realising it rusted then pushing the heavy metal off, then having to swim up etc etc
Now we just have to wait for part two.

I loved this movie, I stumbled upon it on accident, but I'm glad i did. It was so good. Su h good characters, great acting, amazing storylines and just an all around fascinatingmovie. I hope they keep making more of these. This series could be huge honestly if Netflix would give it the time and money its needs
