I actually like some of the photographs, and I really admire your willingness to challenge your usual approach.
I appreciate that! It's nice to try new things. Like a chef!
“I think pigeons are a great subject on the street because it’s their home. Unless it’s a wood pigeon which is basically a pigeon which is lost” 😂
Ha ha I been quoted!
Great idea - shutter speed needs to take account of the direction of the pedestrians' walking (I am going to try it). Loved the Triumph Herald print - had one 1968-75 (weak gearboxes).
i love the geometry and composition of the photo at 4:35. that is a great shot in itself, with or without people!
Cheers Matt.
I love the unusual take on street photography, Roger. Really excellent.
Thanks Will,
Great stuff Roger. Outstanding session today. Inspiration value 100%. Jackpot!
By the way I love the Q&A. Nice touch champion.
Glad you enjoyed it
Very interesting idea and take on street photography. I think that there's something to this which could make for great photos.
Another great video and I especially liked the Triumph Herald. A friend of mine had one and we spent many hours of our late teen years driving it all over town (across the pond).
Oh wow!
I think slowing with street photography is a great idea. Especially when you are trying to shoot some popular place/building with many people around you. Probably they should dissapear if you try to use some grey filter.
Its a real challenge to get great street photographs. I too like to set a scene and wait for people to walk into it. I tend to go for really hard light with strong shadows and silhouettes. I enjoy the work of several photographers with my favourites being Fan Ho and Saul leiter.
It is a challenge. I was hoping for a wet day. Just wasn't raining where I was.
That takes me back. My first job was selling cameras in Dixons, I used to sell the CE5 when they were the new model!
Miss the old Dixon's days. Tech seemed far more exciting and simple back then. Saisho walkmans for £8
I think you need a very strong simple composition with the figure separating well from the background for this type of photography to work
Yes you do Edward.
Nice video, it is very nice to see your experience. The pigeons idea is cool, and i also like the second image with the drawing of the fat man ay 7:00.
I like the blurred people. I dont like shooting people either, good stuff
I think the trio @ 5:17 is a great shots. Especially since they's all dressed in dark clothes and equally spaced apart
7:36 would be great with as person in the background, it's a shame birds are never there when you need them.
I'll give this a try on medium format! The slow street photography concept reminds me of Alexey Titarenko's work.
I shall google that name. Thanks.
I would NOT worry Roger, street photography does nothing for me either. I don't see anything appealing in it. Still life, portraits, or minimalistic.... I think those are your best works. :)
Thank you!
I like the image of the Herald the best. I think that you need to decrease the shutter speed, say 1/2 to 1 second when people are moving towards /away from the camera as opposed to across the frame to emphasise the motion blur - according to my 1977 John Hedgecoe book on photography....
I think that also Roger.
Another great video. These motivate me to go out and shoot a roll [beerclink]
Interesting concept.
Not sure I would want anyone I didn't know either on my wall. Great stuff.
Great stuff, every day's a school day. Informative and enjoyable as usual.
Glad you enjoyed it
Photos with people in them, especially people I don't know don't do anything for me either. I've 8 shots left on a roll of Kentmere 400 in a Voigtländer Vito B I want to finish tomorrow. I'm shooting it at 200 to hopefully reduce the contrast a bit. I'm thinking the rundown streets in my town centre for the last coup!e of frames. The football though, I really enjoyed that today! Revenge from the 6-1 hammering earlier in the season 😁
Hovercraft transports? That is freaking awesome. Are they more expensive than the ferry?
Yesterday my Daughter took the passenger/car ferry. It was about £5 cheaper than the hover. But the hover is 10 min crossing where as the ferry is about 40min. There is another passenger fat cat that takes about 20 mins.
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss At least on the ferry you have more time to shoot photos :D
Agree re street photography. The vast number of street photos on Flickr seem to be shot from the lap of people sat on tubes peering into their phones or similar. And they get gazillions of faves! #don'tgetit
@8:17, I don't know, I like this photograph, nothing exciting, but isn't that what life is really? I think it captures everyday life and I like that.
It does I suppose. Just not much interest in the scene but that's the beauty of pictures. We all see them differently. Cheers!
I knew you were up to something by the teasers you posted on Instagram!! :-D
It's feet up and beer time again!! :-)
Really like this idea, hope to give it a go
Another great advert for the Isle of Wight Tourist Board :-o :-0 :-)
Seriously, Hovercraft, that would be amazing. I've got a mate into photographing the CalMac ferries, even got me to do the post processing once and the shots made it into the Calendar, didn't even get a credit ...... same with the local calendar .... not a bloody sidenote.
I like the shot with the three people on the pier, its got a slightly gothic/supernatural edge to it.
That is annoying when you get a print published and no credit. Had that a few times locally in magazines.
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss It wasn't really my print, my mate failed to tell them who had done the post on his print. Not the Calendars fault, just a chancer of a mate! I'm not really too bothered if someone 'borrows' anything I've shot, unless its for commercial purposes.
Damn pigeons! They are bloody fast animals....
The pigeon photo is good, a slight tweak on the settings will give a awesome photo.
Yes. And also I was too quick to release. Needed to wait until they got into the sky. Maybe 1/25th too
Btw, that beard is looking good!
Starting to get itchy!!
Before the pnademic hit I use to work in London. I miss walking down random streets with my camera.
I enjoyed your video as I do all of them but I must say that I would have preferred to see most of those compositions in landscape mode. Peace!!!
I love Whitechapel and the east end for streets in London.
That quiz was way to easy. hahahaha But it was a nice quiz. Let's get more quizzes.
I found the
"ford
rtho"
very challenging!😆
Lovely shots. May I ask, btw, what tripod you use.. or if you suggest one (that doesn't break the bank and could handle the weight of something heavy like a Mamiya RB67)? Cheers
I use the K&F Concept. Have a scroll through my videos a few weeks back I reviewed it.
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss thank you!
Man, if you think photographing around the Isle of Wight is boring you should try being stuck in Jersey!
Ha ha I was there a few years ago for a weekend. A wedding
I enjoyed your video as I do all of them but I must say that I would have preferred to see most of those compositions in landscape mode. Peace!!!
Interesting Ron. Do you think street looks better in landscape.?
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Frankly, the human eyes are horizontal and we have 180 degree horizontal vision. I feel that i see portrait orientation photos, its like looking through a key hole and the scene is often incomplete. I find myself looking left and right to see if i can complete the scene. Another tell is that most portrait landscape shots i see have large sections of ground and/or sky. That is fine when the ground or sky is the subject of the photo. When it’s not the subject and is still given such a large portion of the photo, it seems wasted. So, to answer your question. Yes i think most every photo is best severed in landscape mode except for actual portraits or pictures of tall subjects like trees or buildings etc. As you can tell i have given this topic quite a bit of consideration. It seems to be very trendy to shoot portrait orientation. I believe it may have to do with the mobile phone culture used to holding their phones in portrait to take photos. To each their own but my eyes are still horizontal on my face. ;) BTW, i do watch and enjoy all your videos! Peace!
Nice :)
Thank you! Cheers!
What devolper would u use to develop kodak colour. Or can u use rodinal. Great vlog and pictures keep up the good work
i don't think he does colour development................
You mean Black & White Developer for colour film? I wouldn't recommend it except for a bit of fun.
You are judging yourself too hard, Roger. Lots of good photos there. 👍🏻
Thanks Bernt.
No please, no more quiz please but the rest of your video was very nice
Awwww :( (Thanks for the feedback)
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss all good, but these quiz items are english traditon, or am i misinformed? greetings from norway and please make many more good videos, I'm always happy when a new one comes out. then look at it in a quiet hour to end the day with something good 😉 greetings from norway
That´s how it goes sometimes. Good effort without good results, But good video anyway cause that´s how it is. You gotta work it out.
Do you ever shoot colour?
I don't El, only BW.
Why stop at 1/4? Try even longer exposures!
I agree try 1/2 or even 1 second +
@@Resgerr My thoughts exactly 😁
I just kept to the same setting and see what I got. I now know its too slow for pigeons and too fast for slow walkers lol
quiz idea: show us the grain and let us guess the film stock
LOL, you're not joking are you?
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss I don't feel confident that I would be able to answer correct but it would surely be an eye exercise and fun.... though a microscope is needed.
Even in Berlin there is not much left of varity in subjects after one year of pandemic. I am at the same point........
Watch the football...Irons!!!!
I'm not a hammer. My family are though. They doing well!
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss My family originally from Canning Town...not allowed to support anyone else...
Mine too. Tidal Basin, and also Bow is my wife's family. Although I was born South London. They are all Hammers and I went down the Arsenal route back in the early 80s ha ha.
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Amazing, I put Canning Town in case you didn't know Silvertown where my mum and dad where born in the 1920s. Small world!
@@seamanjive I know Silvertown well. My Dad worked in Tate and Lyle there and my Uncle lived in the flats. I used to jump on the woolwich ferry to go see him. He had a parrot that swore a lot. Well funny.
