The pistol grip shifter is an available accessory on the new Challengers and to my knowledge no one has said boo about it. This '70 Challenger is so cool. Thanks for posting the video.

I had one of those years ago. Mine had the 440 sixpack. Otherwise, it was basically identical to this one.
Mine was originally plum crazy, but was repainted a different purple color before I got it.
And yes, I wish I still had it.

The 6 pack was actually quicker in a 1/4 mile. (In pure stock)

The newer stuff just is not as desirable as the older cars , I agree .The 50s through the mid 70s was prime time for American V8 power along with great body eye candy and some cool innovation. Italian car maker De Tommaso used the 351 Cleveland engine in the Panther from 1970 -74 and it was the fastest production car in the world at the time A British car maker used an American engine also, cannot remember the name but it used a Dodge 383 I think.

Jenson Interceptor, had the 383 and 440 usually with a torqueflite. Made in the British Midlands.
Also Gordon Keebles used Chevy smallblocks
Our most common V8 was the ex Buick 215ci, known here as the Rover 3500cc, and used in everything from MGs to Rovers, Land Rovers and TVRs

I grew up with these cars and i love them! As long as i can remember my family has always owed Muscle Cars! My dad sold these cars as used cars back in the day and he owned a couple in his youth. For many decades the Detroit Muscle Cars have ruled the street. I have an old Mopar Mag about a shootout from 1997. From 97 Viper to 64 Wedge to a 69 Amx 390. The number one car quarter mile and winner was not the Viper its was the 64 Wedge that won the pure stock drag race shoot out. Can't wait to finish my cars!

      I had a 69 Roadrunner, 70 Chevelle SS 454, and a 72 Challenger.

I remember reading somewhere (I think it was in an old Motor Trend issue) that journalists (or maybe it was the Chrysler guys) referred to the Plum Crazy color as "Statutory Grape". Wish I could remember exactly where that came from.

That was a name proposed by the Dodge marketing guys, (allegedly) but quickly rejected by Chrysler executives. Catch Me Copper was another one. I've seen the info a number of places but most recently here: maxwedge.com/articles/highimpact.php

Love the color but the plum crazy paint had some faults and had a problem adhering to the primer. I personally had seen dusters and others with the paint peeling off of the cars.

It is AMERICAN... back when bigger, faster, louder and more outlandish were selling points. Now, cars are designed by government safety nannies and tree hugging global-warming believers. I miss the good old days.

Europe has made some nice cars and will continue probably. But I think people that watch Muscle car of the week or V8tv are expecting to see American Muscle. Oh, before you look dumber than you sound. I'm Canadian. The future is the future. Europe, China, and North America. I welcome the shared outcome.
