I'd hope not, given what awful people GG turned out to be. like downright abusive, trying to brush horrific things they've done under the rug. like how a couple of them pushed fans into doxxing an employee simply because he had constructive criticism regarding a project.
One thing I like is that after he got recognition for BG3 I found out he wasn't a brand new VA. He'd done a few things I liked but I didnt recognize him. Usually that's a strange thing to say as a compliment but it meant that he's got some range, and not a one note instrument. Let's see him in 10 years when he's even better !
“I’m going to murder that boulder punching asshole!” Heisenberg was so great and so much fun. Never understood the criticism that he was too silly. I thought he was perfect as this insane goofball. Really well voiced.
With all the other characters taking themselves so seriously (except the doll but .. doll) it was a good counterpoint. One of the spookiest things you can have is a villain that's having a good time. So like... That first scene when you meet the four Lords and Heisenberg is hamming up...calling on the lycans... That's some straight circus from hell bs and its hilarious... Unless you are the one in first person in the handcuffs. Also... "Boulder punching bastard" is going to go down in history right next to s*** like "nano machines, son" and "so long gay Bowser" as milestone quotes in game history.
Resident Evil always had some cheesy B-Movie quality to it, so a villain hamming it up doesn’t feel that out of place. And the other lords had their own quirks, too.
@@animeotaku307 in terms of b movie cheese I think 8 takes the cake But they had a good balance between the old tropes and new implementation. Lady D's a vampire, Lady B is a Puppet Mistress, Lord M is a creature from a black lagoon, and Heisenberg is very clearly a Doctor Frankenstein type Even Mother Miranda is a flip for Resident evil, since they've had slightly religious tones sometimes (4) but nearly always more scientific evil. But that b is a cultist first, researcher second. Heisenberg clowning on all his overly dramatic counterparts is just golden and adds to that balance. As a side note something that doubly impresses me is that I didn't recognize that Heisenberg, Nikolai (re3r), and Astarion (baldur gate 3) are the same voice actor. Bros good now. Cant wait to see how good his range will be in the future
imo his lame one-liners made him the most realistic boss. everyone else hams up the drama, Heisenberg flubs his lines, calls you a nerd, and throws you in a death maze with a zombie he stapled a prop engine to. he’s also savvy enough to not be fanatically loyal to Mother Miranda, which makes for fun contrast.
Nicolas Cage is definitely an actor's actor. He's fascinating to just about everyone, of course, but he's doing some crazy stuff that people really take notice of when they know what they're doing.
He also admitted somewhat recently that it was partially because he had to pay off some houses/castles. lol He's aware of how odd he is and leans into it. Which is very good in the film industry. All those strange quirks people make fun of from famous actors, like Christopher Walken's way of speaking, or Robert De Niro's facial expressions? Those are the things people remember and generally grow fond of. Those aren't amazing examples, since those traits aren't really "made fun of" so much as parodied lovingly, but I would argue Nicholas Cage has never... well, that's not true, plenty of bad movies, but he's never been boring in any of them and that's an accomplishment. Even in the movie where he doesn't speak a fucking word while he disassembles angry animatronics, he's still interesting. He's great.
@@Lucifronz Nic Cage has always felt like a guy who was acting for the back of the theatre, in the best possible way. He's a phenomenal actor, and can play things straight when needed, but most importantly, he goes out and gives it his all in every performance he does, from small indie weird flicks to, as you say, a movie where he doesn't say a word while destroying haunted animatronics. It's always fascinating to watch him and see what he will come up with next, for sure.
@Lucifronz Nic Cage acts for the love of acting. He takes it up 300% cause of his "Noveau Shamanism" and we love him for it. Even if the movie doesn't look that good, I'll watch it cause Nic Cage
The fact that he managed to sell a whole character with no exposition and no speaking lines in Willy's Wonderland was amazing. You end that movie knowing nothing about his character but understanding him perfectly.
He actually channeled a few friends of his and the stray cat that lives in his garden. He took the laugh from the actor who played Mozart in the Amadeus movie. He talks about Astarion on his live streams on Twitch all the time!! Highly recommend, he's hilarious.
He’s one of my favorite VAs and one of my favorite characters, but the Grumps version of him looms large in my brain 😭 “I’m a friend of your dad” is my favorite vocal stim now 😂😂😂
"That's a big tub. Must take a long time to fill", "same", and "need a fifth?" live rent free in my head 😂 I think Neil would get a kick out of the whole thing
It really was. I don’t know too much about voice acting, nor have I heard about how to develop a character’s voice (aside from the vague idea of imagining you’re the character, I guess). Something about him considering the grating idea of metal was super cool to hear about.
I'm convinced this video got directed to me by the algorithm because of how big a Grumps fan I am even more than I am a BG3 fan, but to echo the sentiment, we have to get Neil on an episode of Guest Grumps, been saying it for months now
I have a feeling people who searched for GG then searched for "heisenberg voice" and this was a result that showed up and was watched a lot, so now the algo suggests it to anyone who watches GG. lol
I still remember thinking "That is certainly a voice I am hearing" when Heisenberg showed up. Then he just proceeded to win me over thru the whole game.
The fact that this was uploaded a day ago just as I’m hyperfixating on Heisenberg feels like fate. I see I am one of the rare few who really love the vocal choice.
When it comes to all of Nicholas Cages weird movie picks the last several years, it's worth noting that he was taking all those roles to pay off a lot of debt, not because he felt that they were artistically interesting.
I don't think the originally intended voice would have worked for Heisenberg in the end. I think Neil did a fantastic job breathing life into that character, and I remember Heisenberg's parts being some of my favorite parts of that game. A lot of it was the voice direction and delivery, and the wild emotion behind it.
I absolutely *love* Heisenberg’s voice and the character in general. He just exudes this socialite bad boy image. All the decorum of somebody who is well bred, yet totally unhinged.
What's funny is now Newbon's own career is starting to resemble Nic Cages, considering the list of characters he's portrayed now includes Heisenberg, as mentioned here, a vampire elf who uses pomposity to mask the intense PTSD he's dealing with, a talking fish who's ALSO struggling with PTSD and terminal illness and the horror of trying to figure out how to navigate sentience when he didn't have it before, and the second-in-command of a fascist paramilitary group trying to deal with an out-of-control virus that combines people and machines into mutated bio-tech horrors (the latter two IN THE SAME GAME no less)!
heisenberg always reminded me of billy-bob thornton crossed with nic cage, so it’s really neat to hear neil speak on how he developed that particular inflection. i wasn’t totally wrong!

YES

@gamegrumps
My first comment was going to be show this to arin and Danny please 😂
“Your daughter’s in four pieces. I don’t… uhhh” -Heisenberg
NEED him in Guest Grumps
I’d pay like $50 for that.
I mean I do watch him play games so he would fit in that way. Now if he is interested is another story. I sure wish it would end in a Guest Grumps

Neil brings crazy life into all his characters.
Not me totally forgetting that Neil also voiced Heisenberg. This man voices two video game characters that i am unhealthy obsessed with. It tracks
And sound extremely different

The algorithm is so funny. This has nothing to do with Game Grumps technically and yet there are so many fans here. Somehow it knows

I have a feeling people who searched for GG then searched for "heisenberg voice" and this was a result that showed up and was watched a lot, so now the algo suggests it to anyone who watches GG. lol
I'm independently a huge fan of both so maybe there's just a lot of overlap 😂
Nicolas Cage is my favorite voice to do during D&D campaigns, its just hilariously out of place but still works 😂
His voice is VERY D&D.
This is so fascinating, the way he breaks down a voice, and you hear the influences now when he explains them, holy fuck this is so, so good for a v.a

Next character should be more of a challenge: Tim Curry + Billy Connely + Al Pacino
Sprinkle in a little Vincent Price and you have the voice of my fever dreams.
Finally some Heisenberg appreciation, the Grumps will be happy
IM A FRIEND OF YOUR DADS.
This dude is seriously talented! great voice!
God his laugh is already Heisenberg, love it😭
Only reason I watched Renfield was for Nick Cage. I could care less whoever else was on the screen, when Cage was on, it was ON! 🔥
i think he really brought the character to life. The voice suites him so well.
omg the game grumps were so on point with their impressions XD The Game Grumps you guys weren't too far off XD
My dad is a huge Jimmy Stewart fan so I grew up watching a lot of his movies, especially It's A Wonderful Life. Love Neil giving him a shout-out!
Arin’s most recent “EEEEEthan!” Makes me laugh
Playing Village after BG3 I was so shocked when Heisenberg spoke haha.
Heisenberg calling Chris Redfield a boulder punching asshole was priceless.
I always thought he sounded so much like Timothy Olyphant as Heisenberg. Like spot on.
Whoa you’re right. I can totally hear Olyphant in there. It’s not just the tone but some of the enunciation too.

"THAT'S A BIG TUB"
Heisenberg was easily my favorite part of the game, his voice was so funny!
I loved his impression, it’s super great!
ETHAN… WINTERS… UUHH
Heisenberg has such a fun and memerable voice, it's cool to hear what went into it!

Damn, he really nailed it too. I always thought Heisenberg sounded like Nic Cage.
Bro wtf I had no idea HE was the voice actor for him.
Soon as I saw Heisenberg, I immediately thought Nicholas Cage would probably portray him best in a love action version of him lol
Jimmy Stewart plus Cary Grant plus Nic Cage apparently gives you Mae West? 😂 because I hear Mae West a lot in Heisenberg.
Lol OMG. I can totally hear a "Come up and see me some time" coming from Heisenberg!!!
I like describing Heisenberg as "Nick Cage doing a Tim Curry impersonation", so to hear that he was in fact channeling Nick Cage is SO vindicating lol
Neil Newbon putting on a CLINIC right now holy hell
Does anyone else think Nick Cage could play Jack Baker in an RE7 movie?
I just cant get over the fact that he looks like bo Burnham from inside when he was wearing the glasses XD
I had no idea Astarion in BG3 Voiced Magneto in RE 8.
If you fight and try to manipulate primal chaos it will overcome you if you flow it'll just be another day on the job
Legit I had to look up the credits after I heard the voice to make sure they didn't get the actual Cage
I just realized (I could be wrong of cost) but is he the man who programmed the Andorids in "Detroit Become Human".
He plays Gavin Reed and Elijah Kamski in Detroit: Become Human

It’s funny, because I totally thought Heisenberg was voiced by Nicolas Cage at first
Christopher Walken looks great for his age!
I'm a cat. I'm a sexy cat.
Oh cool, I've played RE8 and BG3 a lot and somehow never made the connection between Heisenberg and Astarion!
He’s also Nicholai
Saying what we've all been thinking about Nick Cage lol.
THAT'S A BIG TUB
Still think we should have had an ending to side with Heisenberg
I think I'm suffering from serious Mandela effect cause I thought Heisenberg sounded like Raoul Duke from Fear and Loathing.

Well I think he’s supposed to be insufferable. That’s the point.
Sucks to be you, then.
