Jesus Christ Superstar back in London's West End
Jesus Christ Superstar, the seventies rock musical from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, will return to London's West End on November 19. This totally new production marks the 25th
anniversary of the world premiere of Jesus Christ Superstar in New York in 1971. The production will go on stage in the newly restored Lyceum Theatre - the first live theatre production there in 56 years. Steve Balsamo will play Jesus of Nazareth, Zubin Varla takes on the role of Judas Iscariot and Joanna Ampil plays Mary Magdalene. The production is directed by Gale Edwards.

SOT JOANNA AMPIL: (QUESTION: THIS IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS ROLES IN THE HISTORY OF MUSICAL THEATRE. HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE PLAYING MARY MAGDALENE?) I'M VERY THRILLED. THE FACT THAT I'M PLAYING IN JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR IS EVEN BETTER BECAUSE IT'S JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, IT'S A TITLE ROLE, IT'S THE NAME OF MY SAVIOUR AND IT'S JUST WONDERFUL, AND I'VE READ ALL ABOUT MARY MAGDALENE IN THE BIBLE, AND I CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY IT.
