Have you or a loved one suffered from the inconvenience of a faulty 05-07 Red Head steering boxes? Well, you’re not alone! Also, run down our pre-trip to-dos with us!
Put one in my 1998 jeep xj. You can hardly turn the wheel. My 2001 Dodge Ram has the original box and works great. The Red Head is crap.
Yes! 05 f250 red head 2-3" of play right off the bat. Red head refuse to warranty. 1/8" of side to side play in the output shaft before rotation. Red head refuse to warranty. Yesterday catastrophic failure of seals resulting in 2 quarts of fluid every 20 min pouring on ground. Creating a very dangerous situation. Looking for answers from red head or a solution to the problem. Only replaced Factory unit due to slop in the steering... red head charged me $800 for a garbage product. No issues with the power steering. Issues with the box are strictly mechanical bearing failures and gear play. What's going on red head???
Wow didn't know Redhead had warranty issues. I was looking to put one in my 2006. I may just go another route then if I'm going to have a problem with them
@@johnnycortez46 I am going to call them again now that I've done more testing and replaced the red head with a factory reman unit. I will see if they decide to do anything about it. Now that I've replaced the unit twice I'm going on $3,000.00 in expense with all the expenses that goes along with it. At least with the factory reman unit now it drives really nice and tight. No more wandering all over the place. I'm going to see what they say and post back here. If they refuse to warranty or return my money I'm going to tear it down and investigate what went wrong with that unit.
@@johnnycortez46Blue Top is a company to look into
@@mikeslockanddoorllc so what happend you never posted back what happened with the redhead unit???
@@D-train69 never really contacted them again. Got too busy. May tear it down myself and see what I can find out. If I can find the time. Still going strong on the factory reman from the parts store. I've heard that redhead has issues with the 03-07 boxes and I think someone was trying to put one in from a newer model. Not sure how that turned out.
Heater core should be replaced when you do the oil cooler. Cut the u bends off, you’ll probably find the bottom 1/3 pretty well gummed up. I myself found this out the hard way. Too Many Toys also has video of his. This is a common problem in large commercial hot water heating systems where coils are down fed they clog up with scale slag and rust from associated piping.
Redhead quality has gone downhill significantly. Ive heard nothing but bad things from recent buyers.
I was considering one for my 1997 ram 3500 but people are giving bad reviews
So i really like those body styles, ive heard nothing but horror stories about 6.0s.. HOW HAS THE ENGINE BEEN SO FAR??
Absolutely no issues! It sat in a field in North Dakota for over a year, then drove all the way to OR, then we bought it and took it on a 2,500 mile road trip with a ton of passes and steep grades, and it’s been a daily driver since then. No issues at all. We have four 6.0s and all of them are reliable trucks!
@@AuthorityGarage thats a rare package for sure
With owning 6.0s, you just need to know what you’re getting into & what they might need.
I heard somewhere that the people that started red head now does blue top idk if it’s true
Go to blue top redhead switched owners years ago now they don’t make them like the did
Have you tried a Blue Top steering gear?
What about the blue heads? Any good?
We have never used a Blue Top steering box, so we can’t weigh in on the quality of the product.
@@AuthorityGarage have you thought about using blue top
Hello…I have a 2007…does anyone have any experience with the larger bore from Red Head? I’m thinking about getting that one…thank you.
Go blue top
How can you diagnose a 06 f350 6.0 for a bad steering gear box? I don't wNt to replace ball joints etc and it be my steering gear box.
Take it to a shop. You can’t learn that from a UA-cam comment. Or do research on how your steering works and figure out all joints that may have wear.
@@hungryhungryhummer i did end up taking it to a shop. Steering pump and gear box! $1,000 repair bill
Have someone jiggle the steering wheel back and forth while you are under the front end. Observe the input and output at the gearbox and all joints in the system. Look for any play or issues. Should be able to spot any issues fairly quickly.
Stop using them then.
Like was said in the video, we fully intend to discontinue the use of that specific box until the issues can be resolved on Red Head’s end.
There is a wire that connects the steering system to your breaks it connects it’s a dumb but I’d fix the break line that connects to the power steering and it will fix your problem I’d work on my dads and that is what happens
Wire? Are you referring to the hydraulic line from the power steering pump to the brake booster for the hydro-boost system?
